Thanks for watching. Someone recently told me you need a permit to ride in the area. Do you know anything about that?

@@xpeditionpgh any forest service road is open to ride for any street legal vehicle. Basically as long as the gate is open you're good to go. The only place I can think of that a permit might be required are the designated ATV trails such as Willow Creek and Marienville

@@rowdyrush1961 Watkins Glenn is awesome 👏 I’ve only been there once for a 3 day nascar camping trip but I really love the area. The roads out by the palace were really good. I’ll have to explore out there again. We are heading out to coopers rock WV next week. Hopefully that will have some nice riding.

Awesome 👏 what bike did you get? My weekends are pretty busy, I actually tend to ride mid week more than the weekends unless I plan ahead. I hope to do a longer ride in October. Maybe the NE BDR.

@@xpeditionpgh I bought a 2022 1290 Super Adventure R. How long are your mid week rides? If they don’t keep me from going to work in the morning I’d like to tag along. I guess I could always call off if the ride goes too long. Lol.

Thanks 😊 Sorry to hear that about your back. Hopefully you get some relief. I didn’t ride much in July because I have developed serious ear ringing that has made everything very difficult lately. Im really hoping I’m feeling up to riding next week as I have some big plans.

It’s the Garmin XT. It has free trial maps that actually work pretty well. I don’t really love this GPS over all. It feels like a device that hasn’t been updated in 20 years. The search feature is awful because it use four square to find landmarks, gas stations and the like. I’ve have been really lost because of this thing. But if your following a premade gxp route it does well. Even like this trip I had no idea where I was going it is easy to follow the trails. My favorite feature Tracks where it records you path. That makes it easy to share a route or find your why out if your lost.

Very good advice! I should have known then but I had read different ideas about these gates. Also opening the gate definitely didn’t help me find my way back to the trail anyway. But lesson learned.

I don’t think there is a better way to camp. I recently got a haven tent it’s a flat lay hammock and it is absolutely amazing.

I wasn’t aware of that bike. The fat tires have to be really great for a learner. Hope you have a great trip!

@@xpeditionpgh I think I will be camping at wood Haven campgrounds the weekend of august 10th. The Koa up there is trashy.just turn in(south)at the Koa road and there's tons of nice roads

@@madcatter68no41 my dad’s camp is about 5 minutes up the road from there. I’ve road a ton of the back roads around there. I don’t think you could ever ride them all. I like the back way down from 59 to Westline Inn. I road that at night on my last trip in the rain and that was a scary/fun little ride!

Yeah I had a camera bag on my back in the morning rather than water. Bad decision I didn’t even use the camera and when we came to the atv park I left it in the office.

Yeah it’s even better with the base pad installed. I’m really happy with it.

A smaller bike would definitely be better for all this. But honestly it’s not the bike as much as the skill of the rider. That’s the real reason I need a smaller bike.

When it’s not a total mud bog but we definitely hit it at the right time!

We are in up in Quebec now. Unfortunately about 45 minutes from home it became very clear our Outback did not have enough power for the new trailer and the Norden. So we had to go back and leave the bike at home. So no NEBDR for me this trip. But otherwise so far so good!

My wife might kill me, but maybe! 😆

But you should not have to do that on high end luggage like this. It’s a really lazy design.

Yeah I’m thinking a 501 may be in my future!

@@chiefenumclaw7960 I came off the bike a little before I started making these videos. I tore 2 ligaments in my wrist. It was awful. I rode the bdr with basically zero strength in my left wrist. It has finally healed but it will never be the same.

@@xpeditionpgh I think I recall you alluding to this in a more recent video. Knowing what you know now, would you give up the sport to be at full health? Apologies if my bad joke was taken in poor taste.

@@xpeditionpgh couple other issues with the fall, October,, cold mornings, shorter daylight, and if riding on a weekend with a Penn State home game lodging can be really difficult and expensive even good ways from the town.

I’ve been thinking about it but she doesn’t seem like she wants to keep at it anymore. I’ve just been riding it.
