Affinity Photo sure has a learning curve, and not in a good way. But after over 20 years with Adobe’s Photoshop and its siblings, I’ve moved over to the Affinity suite and left Adobe. I even replaced Acrobat DC with PDF Expert. I hate change. But I hate getting ripped off, too. Adobe: But you get access to ALL our software! Me: But I only need a handful of your programs. I did the hack for ending my subscription early, and now I’m all in with Affinity.
@bydesignmethod31 минут бұрын
Hey Theresa! I agree it certainly has a learning curve. I started with Affinity and then went into Adobe for awhile to learn some basics when dealing with other designers/companies. I found some things much easier with Adobe, and others not so much. That said I totally understand why you left, the product is great but they crossed too many lines. I think you'll really like Affinity once you get the hang of it, you've got all the skills... just need some directions on certain things. Thank you so much for watching!

what I don't like about envato is the dishonest approach, what dishonest approach you ask? $16.50 a month but there is a catch, you must buy a year subscription first otherwise its $33.00 a month,..... Canva on the other hand is upfront and clear. just be honest Envato , state the $33.00 a month first then offer the discounted price.

Thank you for the time and effort you put into teaching us this! I for one know what it takes to put out a good video (actually I perhaps know but cannot execute yet)... But, coming from Photoshop, years ago....absolutely REFUSING to pay THOUSAND dollars a year...CRAZYNESS and you own nothing. So Affinity has been a blessing as I was making thumbnails in Davinci Resolve and Power Director and Photo Director.... Affinity has become popular because of the Adobe trying to get you to allow them access to all your creations was the straw that broke the camels back! So now, you my friend, will be inherently more popular and perfect timing, as you have a mellow, easy to follow way of instruction. Thank you

In the case of architectural photography, I use layers and masks to bring in flash exposures to specific areas. Is Affinity capable of layering multiple images and syncing them for this process?
@bydesignmethod3 күн бұрын
Hey, Affinity Photo absolutely has image stacking. This is totally possible.
@Argyll98464 күн бұрын
New to Affinity yesterday. Why are new layers filled with white when they are created and not transparent as they are in Photoshop? I just don't understand this at all and nobody really explains the reasons why. I know you can vary a layers transparency, but that affects everything on that layer, which is kinda nuts.
@bydesignmethod4 күн бұрын
Hey, Just confirming - are you saying when you create a new pixel layer or start using the pen tool/create a shape/etc a new layer is created that is filled with a white background? Let me know.
@Argyll98463 күн бұрын
@@bydesignmethod If I start a new file (no photo) the background is white. If I create a new pixel layer the background is white not transparent. I know this doesn't happen when you start with a photo, but if you create a gradient on a new layer above a photo if covers the entire layer below even when you create a circular gradient that should end, as it does in Photoshop and other software I use, being transparent. I don't know what I'm missing but when a gradient has a start point and an end point the end should be transparent. I'm just not seeing this.
@bydesignmethod3 күн бұрын
@@Argyll9846 Try this first: with your document open go to 'Document > Transparent Background' If you want a transparent gradient add a mask to the photo first, then add the gradient

My only concern is my dwindling eyesight and the huge array of menu icons almost all around - Does Affinity cater for those of us who needs icons a bit larger….?
@bydesignmethod6 күн бұрын
Hey Matthew, Although you can't change icon size in Affinity, you have a few options: For your tools you can remove what you might not need by going to 'view > customise tools' and dragging them off You can do the same for the top toolbar by going to 'view > customise toolbar' Many users have found changing the icons to black and white helps - this can be done by going to 'settings > user interface' and checking off 'Monochromatic Icongraphy' Under these settings you can also make your font bigger and change the background style from light to dark (i like dark personally) Affinity Photo allows you to close panels and only bring them back when needed as well. This can free up some room. The icons COULD be made larger by changing the settings on your computer (overall change) as well. Let me know if I can help in any other way!

I'm an old FreeHand and PageMaker user. Each time Adobe drove a competitor out of business, they jacked up prices. They jacked up prices so much that they created space for a competitor. Affinity doesn't have to be as good as Adobe. Their competing products just have to be somewhat close and a lot cheaper.
