it’s a relief that you also struggle with public speaking. I, myself, dislike the thought of speaking in meetings or giving presentations. That was one thing that made me doubt pursing school psych but thank you for reassuring me that it does get better over time! Still deciding if I want to do school psych or school counseling. I love the assessment and testing aspect of school psych but I also like being able to help the general student population as a school counselor. So hard to choose! I do want to ask if you ever had a student who was violent or aggressive? that would be another concern of mine. I’m sure this goes into crisis intervention but just curious if you ever experienced it? Thank you

Since you got your masters in counseling does this mean technically you can use your degree later for clinical counseling later if you want ?

Is there a reason why my school won’t take an evaluation from a school psych other than a neuro psych?

I thought the BASC cautions us not to share their intellectual property. In my program we were told not to copy and paste from the BASC, we were required to create our own tables

How is your assessment a psycho educational evaluation? If you are the only personal assessing? You mentioned you even do the academic achievement, so how would it be legally defensible if only one person is testing?

I just found your video and I can’t believe you said you went to RIC, that’s where I’m at now in my first semester of grad school. I’m in the psychological research grad program and still trying to learn how to be a successful grad student, thank you for your tips 🙏

Hi Rachel! I have some questions as to qualifications that I hope you could answer: Do you need a certificate to be a school psych? Can the certificate in the U.S. be recognized in Canada, and vice versa? Thank you.

I am working on getting my undergrad degree in psychology. I really have been struggling to find a job in the field since a lot of jobs require more than undergraduate degree. What was your job history like and what resources helped you the most? I would really love some advice as I do also want t be a School Psychologist. Thank you for the wonderful information you have given so far!

I got a BA in psychology 10 years ago and had a great GPA. I've been working in an unrelated field since then. I would like to do the job but don't know if I can get into grad school (no one to write letters of rec.). I am currently planning on being a teacher for a bit before applying.

Thanks for your awesome content!! You provide amazingly relevant content!! In regard to counseling, what kind of training do you receive for counseling students? In my School Psych program, there is one course for counseling. That does not seem to be enough. You mentioned that you mainly do assessments at your current school, does your school have a counselor and/or social worker on campus for students to access if counseling is needed?

Thank you so much for this info. I am currently doing my practicum and I 100% agree with everything you said. My supervisor is often having to deal with behavior concerns (crying/kids having a rough day)that teachers just toss on her vs going to admin or dealing with themselves. Fortunately the counselor is very active and effecient in his role and a great support but I find my supervisor works alot more than she should with the gen ed kids (not referring to sst) and she hardly has any time to do the work she needs with the kids on her actual caseload. I was so sure I wanted to work with elementary level but am kind of excited to do my 2nd 200 hours at a middle school or high school to be more sure of what direction I want to go in. In the elementary level I personally see alot of social/emotional concerns (ED/trauma/agression/anger). Anyway, thanks again for this insightful video! ❤

4:58, that’s awesome 😎, the flexible scheduling would be nice! Random question, if a LSSP had a strict principal, couldn’t they say something like, “Well, all staff are required to be here from 8:30-4:30, even LSSPs!” Or are LSSPs often given latitude to times on campus in their contracts? Thx

Thank you for informative video 🙏🏻 I’m learning about the school psychology field. I heard some information about working with difficult behaviors. But I don’t know how accurate it is. Since you know special education laws , I taught to ask here 🙏🏻 I appreciate if you can guide me . I was talking to a school psychologist and that’s what she told me : a child is acting dangerously in a class , he/she is throwing chair or running with a scissors ( considering the teacher has removed all children from the class for their safety ) as a school psychologist , they send you in the class by yourself to calm down the student . But if the child starts to chase you with the scissors, you can not leave the area . Because if he /she happens to injure himself , you will get sued and you will have to pay for medical expenses. I got confused about this scenario because you either need to choose to get sued for child negligence or paying lots of money for his medical needs or choose to get injured . I really appreciate your opinion 🙏🏻 that would be great help 🙏🏻
