Great review mate! The GH7 seems a great camera to compliment the S52.

Thanks mate, yeah S5II for night shoots and bokeh and GH7 for the slow-mo, 32Bit float and other features. Cool combo. Hopefully some of these new GH features will transfer to their full frame range at some point. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for the review 🫡!! Cant wait to get my hands on this one, I wasn’t a big fan of the Gh6 mainly because of the light streaking issue.

Glad you enjoyed it. Now that the streaking is fixed and it has some really cool features it’s a really good system to get into 👊🏻🎥

I do a lot of hand held pans and movements arount food and drink plus general products. Will the estabalisation or normal stabilisation in the GH7 be beneficial to my type of work. PS I don't want to carry or use gimbals.

It's just been announced that there is an 8TH FEATURE that I haven't talked about in my video... and that's ARRI LOG C3! This is crazy cool news. I have compared the LUMIX S5IIX to the ARRI Alexa Mini and it took a little while to get the colours to match but I was able to get them really close. Having ARRI LOG C3 (licence sold separately) built into the GH7 is just on another level and really useful on high-end productions.

F4+ is really unimpressive. If I find a good deal then maybe. The size and weight is appealing but again that aperture isn't good.

Well..the mini is almost 10 years old. Put it against the Alexa 35, LF or 65 and will smash it. What I can appreciate so much about the Alexa, is ARRIRaw. Nothing compares to this camera color profile. Throw in some Arri Signature primes, and now you are cooking. Of course, you need a crew, and talent, and locations and…well a million dollar budget…. Ah fuck it, I’ll just grab a lumix….

Watch Manny Ortiz's video on how bad the focusing is. Forgot the specs and features. If it struggles to focus, who cares about anything else. No mechanical shutter so it's poor option for photography due to banding and picture quality. Very limited record time length. Ergos so bad they gave out free 3rd party grips to all the reviewers. No EVF. No hot shoe so cannot use a flash etc. No headphone jack. The PROs?: Stabilization is top notch. If you are a Lumix fanboy buy a Lumix s5ii.

I haven't really used AF on the S9, I was so into shooting on manual vintage glass haha, but in the limited time I used the Autofocus it was very similar to the S5II experience, which is good depending on the use case. From my experience with the S5II human & face/eye tracking works really well, it also has sensitivity and speed adjustments for finer control. The object tracking does not work well for me, it's definitely not as sticky as the Sony and does bounce around a bit so I hope Lumix can improve on that side. If you want to take a look at how autofocus works for face tracking, my 'LUMIX S 100MM Macro F2.8' video shows some pretty impressive results. Personally, on the S9 I care mostly about image quality, shutter angle, waveforms, LOG profile and how easy it is to grade. I shoot some photos for fun, so the electronic shutter doesn't bother me too much - EVF would be amazing to have, I wish they included that! And yes of course I would love it if there was no record limit, but with its small size and no fan there are some compromises. For the things that I use this camera for, its not a big deal. - what I'm trying to say here is everyone has different needs, for some, this camera might make no sense but for others, it will. I'm already invested in the L-Mount system with all the lenses and few of the bodies, so the idea of a portable L-Mount is really fantastic.

I had to stop this Video to come add a comment. I want to thank you for showing that with the right person behind the camera anything is possible. I’ve seen so many videos of people whining about the S9 and you took it and keep it Beautifully Simple. Bro I would love to talk to you one day, just to get your take on something. I shoot with multiple S5 II for Events but your eyes and how you see things is intriguing… keep up the excellent work Brother. May God continue to Favor You.

Really appreciate your comment brother, it means a lot! Usually, my videos have more talking head shots but I think it's quite important to let the images speak for themselves in this one, so the majority was shot on the S9. Pretty stoked about all the images I was able to capture with this compact setup! Any questions just DM me on Instagram 👊

I am really interested in this device mainly because of the design. I'm so newbie about camera. After watching a couple reviews about this device, my question is why HDR is so bad compared to flagships smartphones? Skills issues or is it just how the camera works without ultra processing like in smartphones?

All no-AI cameras are the same in this respect, irrecpectible of the sensor or the manufacturer. Phones using AI are much better at shooting in HDR / storing high-dynamic scenes. You can also do the same on a proper camera, but it requires some pre-planning and using formats like vlog.

Anybody know what lens and filter is being used here with the s9?
@masterofcamera
@masterofcamera 14 күн бұрын
I mostly used the H&Y RevoRing VND+CPL (It's quick and easy to put on and works well with lenses from 67 to 82 filter thread size) - a big downside is if you bump it, it might fall off lol... so just need to be careful with it. Otherwise, the Freewell VND 2-5 & 6-9 stops is the other ones I use if I need a more secure mount.

@masterofcamera
@masterofcamera 14 күн бұрын
Oh yes! The battery life is actually really good. I brought a lot of spare batteries with me but on a long day that started 9am, shooting photos and this video along the way until late night I only used 2 - 3 batteries. If it's a chill day you probably could get away with using just 1 or 2.

A great everyday carry or low key shots for doco. It really lacks an EVF (vintage glass / peaking on a tiny screen is a no go for me), and a mechanical shutter for photos, or just a better readout speed for photos.

This ain’t camera for photography. What most of reveiws missing to say is that S9 is horrible for photography due to lack of mechanical shooter or EFC and any kind feature to support flash trigger.

Is this a direct competitor of the XS-20? If it is, then I am now confused. I have an LX10 always mated to a Zhiyun Crane M for cinematic attempts. I also have the Lumix Zs220 for travel photos. I was waiting for the Xs20 to come out but when it came out I delayed my decision. NOw, we have this S9…Am I going to be stuck in the Panasonic ecosystem?

Definitely not the cheapest camera out there but with all the features it packs, being full frame with amazing IBIS + the portability and overall fun-factor I think it’s a good value camera. But of course it’s not for everyone as it does have its limitations.

It's great to see another review of the S9 that displays the features it has and how to get the most out of them. I've seen too many reviews of people just complaining about what it doesn't have. I mean, couldn't you do that with virtually any new camera? There's no such thing as the perfect camera, right? Anyway. The S9 looks like a lot of fun and with the ability to create your own LUTs, you can take them and use them on your S5ii/x, too. So, it's not just a fun camera. It's another tool in the toolbox.
@masterofcamera
@masterofcamera 15 күн бұрын
This camera really inspires me to be creative, with the features it does have so I really wanted to push it to its limits with its stabilisation, low light capabilities etc. Yes of course there is no perfect camera, every system has its limitations. I have the Sony FX6, it’s a fantastic piece of kit… is it perfect? no way! It has a lot of missing features - no waveforms, no Open Gate! - even though it has a 3:2 sensor you can never use it, which is crazy… I can go on and on. S5IIX, I love it but also it has its disadvantages. It’s all about the right tool for the right job. Every camera has some limitations. Fun fact, having limitations makes me more creative. Sometimes I just like to take one prime lens rather than a zoom, it just makes you think harder and keeps the creative juices flowing.
