Thanks a lot brotha! I appreciate that 🙏🏻 I’ve tried a few different weights but have narrowed it down to 3. For my heavy setup I run 50 For my slow pitch in perfect conditions I run 40, in less than perfect conditions I may run 25lb. I rarely run 25lb anymore though because I’ve been encountering a lot of kahala down deep.

I use a variety of different grubs and to be honest, haven’t noticed a difference in performance with shape, size and color. All of them are relatively small though, under 1.5 inches. Every time I go I change style and they all work. If the Opelu are biting, they’ll bite anything. If they’re not biting, then you just gotta try and snag um 🤣

They’re fun to catch! Wish they didn’t have worms though.

You are correct in that braid and PE lines are both woven using ultra high molecular polyethylene and are essentially the same in that regard, and braid uses lb rating vs PE’s diameter rating, however, what I was implying when comparing PE to braid was there’s a notable difference in performance and specs of the well known Japanese brands vs Powerpro braid which is a staple for many people in USA. From my experience, Japanese PE lines such as Seaguar and Varivas are superior for jigging applications due to the sensitivity, strength, and softness of the line vs traditional PowerPro braid.

@@jifishingco seagar is very common all over the world. I can buy ut here in panama if i want. Neither brands are country exclusive. I do believe japan has brands that are not seen in wester europe or america.

Man, we had one nice day with a break in the wind but it didn’t even last the full day. By 2pm the wind was gusting and it started raining too. I just got super lucky with a short window. Seems like this was my first calm day on the water this year haha. Hopefully we have some favorable weather coming soon. Thanks for watching 🤙🏻

They’re fun to catch because they fight so hard but unfortunately they’re often loaded with worms here in our waters so most people don’t eat them. I’ve heard they’re actually pretty good eating though. I just always release them because I don’t want to chance the worms and kill the fish for no reason.

@@jifishingco copy that. Beautiful fish. So yellow tail and kingfish must be very close relatives. I know yellow tail is sushi quality, but heard kingfish can also be loaded with worms. Interesting.

@@arboraction1474 They certainly look very similar! Ya it’s unfortunate because they’re so plentiful here. I imagine more people would eat them if they didn’t have so many worms.

@@sonnyd6589 Thanks a lot! 🙏🏻 I try and use the thinnest diameter line I can get away with because that helps cut through any current, and then I also try and use heavy, slender jigs that sink quickly and don’t have much resistance in the water. The key is to know the conditions and match them with the appropriate set up. For example, this day was so calm and barely any current that I could easily fish that wider, stubby pink glow jig I was using in the second half of the video. Whereas if the wind and current picked up, I’d stick with the first, long slender one I was using. Also, the first true slow pitch setup I was using had thinner line compared to the bigger rod I was using after I got broken off. Planning your drift also helps to remain vertical. Hope that helps!

So far I freaking love it! I was skeptical at first due to its size and weight but the thing is built like a tank and has been performing exceptionally well! The low gear option has been extremely helpful with larger fish too.

Thanks a lot Jarret! 🙏🏻 I use the Garmin Echomap UHD 2 with a G51 transducer. Here’s a few tips that can help you increase your chances of hooking into those suspended fish. 1) Don’t hesitate. As soon as I see a good mark I immediately stop my momentum and drop and try and stay as vertical as I can (my kayak has reverse pedals) 2) When targeting suspended fish I always try and be ready to drop as soon as I see something good on the screen. Sometimes I’m holding the rod in my hand with my finger on the clutch. 3) Use a heavy, streamline jig that will drop very fast to maximize your chance of putting your jig in front of them. Full disclaimer, it’s difficult. I’d say maybe 5% of the time I get those suspended fish when they’re just by themselves. If you see predators around bait schools then your chances are greatly increased because they’re hanging around the food source. However, if you don’t drop and try, you’ll never get them! Hope that helps! 🤙🏻
