The Traffic was just too surrealistic to me in the 1960's, and also many bands wanted to experience and play sitar in those days following the Beatles and that Indian music guru Ravi Shankar. But I thought that didn't fit to contemporary pop music at all, containing real 'roots music' like blues, rhythm and blues & rockn'roll.
