If you decide to go first strike which I personally don't, you're better off taking triple tonic. It helps give him some little power bumps during laning phase that give him decent options for trading with more success.

Haven't had time to play since it was released but I know it was very strong on him for a while. Seems viable as maybe a second or third item.

@@Im_TheNoodle Tysm for replying. I need an S on Hwei for M7 but even with good KDA/Vision, I get outshined by kill steals and it's so frustrating. Your guide made me play Hwei more confidently esp. against my personal tough matchups like Ahri and Yasuo.

@@anyrak hey I'm super glad it helped. It's actually really hard to get an s on hwei consistently since he kind of has a hard time racking up kills. Your best bet is having really good cs and as few deaths as possible.

@@Im_TheNoodle But if my teammates set high benchmark for S rank then it's harder... I want to participate in damage+kills. Any advice? I'm struggling with Varus too, the same issue. I got 10/3/13 while my Top and JG got 14/5/17 and I only got an A+. I'm a Hwei main who migrated to bot to improve my cs-ing and map awareness+gank survivability but now I'm just a stressed out Hwei AND Varus main.

Love that last part, haha! I was an ADC main until this season when I realized the role was fundamentally ruined. I actually feel like farming as an ADC is harder than ever with how hectic bot lane can be and unfortunately I don't personally feel like that kind of difficulty would help your CS improve overall. I believe that you should practice exactly what you want to be better at in the sense that not only do Varus and Hwei function on an entirely different level but they play different roles with different circumstances. Granted I do believe there are aspects of playing ADC that can help improve your overall gameplay but I would take the time to play Hwei and focus on one mechanic specifically each game. CS has an enormous impact on your letter grade and if you're not in the top three highest CS in the game then it's probably going to drop your grade quite a bit. Other than "generic" CS practice I would take some normal games to limit test yourself on Hwei and try to maximize your damage output and kill participation if you feel like that's where you're struggling. It's especially hard on Hwei cause he has really bizarre power spikes throughout the game where his early levels can be really weak while around first item he get's a huge advantage and it's that time until late game that you really have to get as many kills as possible. Once late game rolls around you'll find yourself doing a lot more zoning and artillery in order to help your team but actually last hitting champions is really hard. If you wanna maximize your early and mid game kill potential make sure shadowflame is your first or second item as it boosts your execute potential a ton. Blackfire torch came out after I made the video so I didn't get to throw it in there. Based on the patch right after it was put out it seems like it was really strong on hwei and I imagine it probably still is. I wouldn't recommend it as a first time due to lack of sustain in early game but if you're maybe against a tankier laner it might be a good early item.

I actually haven't had much time to play so I haven't tried it yet. Based on the last patch notes it seems like it was really strong on him especially when paired with liandry's. Since it got nerfed I'd probably stick to the usual build that's just speculation so try out a few times and see what you think.

True it would be nice but making his shield strong would probably lean too hard into his defensive and controlling play style. Players having a hard time finding a way to all in him would only be shut out further by his shield. I think it works well as a clutch tool and anything beyond that would be problematic I feel.

Same rush down style as most assassins. Hold your important cc for hard engages and focus on wave control. Main goal is to shut her out of diving you and punish her for roaming as much as possible. Poking her out of lane is going to be your best bet early but around level 6 she really becomes a threat.

That's part of the reason I love him is his flexibility. He kind of functions as a jack of all trades but in return he doesn't exactly excel at any one thing. His ability to function like a control mage while having the benefits of early access to hard cc and other high utility options makes him a relatively strong pick but in exchange you really have to learn your matchups and know his ins and outs really well in order to find success. I can't say he would make a great pocket pick due to his learning curves and in most cases there are other safer alternatives but if you're interested in picking him up as maybe a secondary pick to your main I'd say go for it. He's nothing if not fun!

Yeah his ult is definitely one thing you can predict for the most part. I think sadly he simply out scales you and snowballs so easy and you can only hope and pray he won't roam on your teammates. But the yasuo lane definitely sucks too, I find it to be easier personally but a good yasuo is far from a good time.

Very true! He feels like a slow burn champ which catches a lot of people off guard mid to late game. Lane swapping pays off super well a lot of the time since you can effectively one shot the enemy adc when they underestimate your damage.

Glad you like it! Honestly talon is surprisingly uncommon, I think I've only played maybe one or two games against him mid lane. Your best bet is to hard shove him early and poke as much as possible to prevent him from roaming and once he hits 6 you need to be extremely careful about all ins. During laning hold your e1 for when he dashes on you with q since he will be trapped in an animation and is almost guaranteed to land. At 6 he is probably going to lead his all in by ulting making it hard to land cc so hold your e until he becomes visible and lay down your q3 to prevent him from getting on top of you too fast. All in all he plays similar to the nafiri matchup but may be even more favorable for you, just be cautious of roaming and punish him by getting plating.

That's a good question. I used to make a point to build it in some games but got to a point where the pros of other items often outweighed it. My issue with items like this is that while they have a pretty strong effect it has a limited cool down and use time as well as criteria to make it work. I find it better to have items that benefit you all the time regardless of circumstance so you don't end up wasting a strong item passive on accident before roaming for a fight for example. It definitely can be a strong item and shouldn't be totally off limits by any means, I just find that other items are usually more consistent and provide benefits that allow hwei to deal good damage regardless of circumstance.

I find ludens to be underwhelming overall and most other items will usually be a better choice. Mana tear helps mitigate the mana issues allowing you to go for more damage heavy items instead of something like ludens. I've also tried cryptobloom a few times and fun as it may be it's just too inconsistent. Again you're sacrificing stats for a small amount of utility that may or may not come in clutch and then you're also locked out of having a significantly better magic pen item.

Yeah it really comes in clutch sometimes, that slow startup makes it hard to time well but it can pay off
