That would be MEGA fucked up if you'd just go and GO TO THIS MEGA THREAD and play all of the games for free and steal games :DDDD

It's been 4 weeks, I haven't played any games. I watch Police Cam videos, Interrogations and court hearings on KZfaq in my free time now. I'm telling myself from past 4 weeks "this weekend you gotta play something" yet Idk I just can't. Is this it? am I too old for Video Games now?😅

Last year I had started watching alot of yt while gaming, yk I was feeling good having a great time then like 4 months later I had gotten so bored, tired of gaming. For the ladder half of this year I just wasn't having a good time cause I stopped having stuff on my second monitor. I thought the games I was playing was the issue but after spending a solid month off games I was still bored, only realizing when I slowly started gaming again I had the urge to have something in the background like a yt video. I still don't fully enjoy the games I play (Then again it's fucking Valorant so..) but I'm much more willing to play games and even play ones I don't usually play. I'm digging my toes back into games I use to love and playing less of val. At this point I don't have firefox open when I'm gaming unless it's to google something or I forgot I had it open. I don't want to go back into that state of understimulation cause I don't enjoy it. It feels like wearing a shoe that's just a lego but I got so use to the pain I suffered through it without thinking I can take off the stupid shoe. idk, I do know I've learned not to have alot of things going at once and not to scroll for hours even though at the moment it feels nice to turn off my brain.

For me, the main reason I don't play games anymore, because they suck. Since 2018 nearly only shitty games are getting released. So yeah, they are not fun anymore

Overstimulating?Mate I feel like I'm sorrounded by veggies, people have 0 energy at work, 0 at games, 0 at anything they do because they became so lazy basically evolved to full time veggies.

i mostly agree with the discipline thing, felt like ever since short content becomes a trend, that's the time where i started to play video games less, but whenever i have someone to play with, i can get addicted for hours, dont know why, maybe just me but man i would love to go back to the split screen days, playing game with someone purely for fun somewhat competitive is fun

It's nice that you put in ways to improve your life in a very manageable way. Instead of just talking about the negatives, your video goes into helping the viewer and in the very least some people will be able to get better. Talking about recording your actions in a day will really help some people and I think I'm going to try and do that as well, because video games actually help me to get out a lot of stress and I want to return to them as well as develop better habits.

Great advice on habits, I've been playing older games from "top games ever made" lists and it's been regrowing my love for games. Also paying attention ONLY to the game, full volume, immersed without a Twitch stream or a phone distracting me has been bliss.

I’m 2 weeks clean from KZfaq shorts and TikTok and been able to put 9 hours in to anger foot and 8 hours into Alan wake 2. I started learning the guitar again and I no longer scroll through clips of people and garbage I care nothing about. KZfaq has been better as well I always thought content just wasn’t made like when I was young, turns out there is I was just too much off a zombie to go looking for it

For me personally, Twitch has ruined my motivation to play games. I discover all these new games through it and they look great so I buy them. Then I stop watching the stream because I tell myself I don't want to ruin the experience as I'll play it later. In the end I bought the game, but am watching another stream about the next game. Endless loop.

It’s because we were all uploaded in 2012 and like any computer, it’s “wearing out” albeit slowly. Look at 2011 and earlier, none of this stuff existed, at all.

Video Games today just try to get you the Most Hours as possible at the Screen. With Long Dialogs, Long walking, Long Storys scenes, everything is STRECHED. Nothing is about Game-quality. Of die you See normal Minecraft with 1 Hour Long unskippable Tutorial and 5 Minutes cutscenes?

I've been thinking about that here and there, too. My short and rather simple conclusion: back then, (AAA) games were developed to (mainly) be a fun experience. Now, it's (mainly) about graphics and realism. And at least I don't want a realistic experience when I play a game.

Change your icon layout on your phone. Chances are you have muscle memory for opening facebook, tiktok, instagram, whatever. Change that icon's location. Then next time you go to use that app out of instinct, you'll realise - and be able to ask yourself "do I REALLY wanna doomscroll right now?".

For me, it's a culmination of so many countless little issues I have with games in general. I miss gaming being more niche and developers not feeling compelled to appeal to the lowest common denominator. I miss when video games weren't trying to be overly cinematic. I miss when it was more common for a game to have a style rather than aiming for photo realism. I miss when playing games with friends required them to be in the room with me. I miss when games were finished when they were released, bugs and all. I miss having cheat codes. I miss developers not feeling obligated to make some kind of statement with their game. I miss games being difficult, and satisfying to complete. Not saying there aren't good games now, just that I find older games to be so much more charming and sincere, I guess.

The DQV music in the background brought back such memories from the early 90s. The thing I struggle with recently is I usually have about 20 or so games installed in my steam library of almost 200. So, if u want to play one of the other 180 games I may have to first make space & then wait for it to download. I miss cartridges!

If you have something like ADHD, your brain sometimes needs time to adjust to something. I play something for minimum 10 minutes before I decide if I'm having fun or not, which usually gives my brain enough time to get over that initial hump

I think part of the issue is simplicity, or some case the perception of simplicity. When we were kids we didn't overthink things. We got a game, we sat down, we played it, we had fun. And that was it. We didn't try to nitpick the hell out of it, we didn't try to analyze it, most people weren't trying to optimize the living hell out of the experience. We just knew how to sit down and have fun. But now everybody is a critic and so many people spend so much time not just playing games but obsessing, theory crafting, or scrutinizing them. Which leads to path of least resistance. Do we sit down to a new game and open our mind to having to learn the new mechanics, analyze, and overthink about everything involved? Or do we go back to those old classics we already know and love or that comfort game we play regularly. I think this is where the problem is. People have gotten so accustomed to overthinking that it permeates the hobby and then any new game becomes like work because there is all sorts of new things to have to learn and fixate over compared to the simplicity of just playing those old games we already know by heart. Even in cases where those old games might have similar or potentially more complexity than the new game we are trying to play we already know that old game so it's a much easier and less stressful barrier to entry. So I would say discipline is good but more in having the discipline to just force yourself to stop overthinking and just play the game. Don't worry about if your build is perfect, if you are doing things in the most optimal way, or worrying about all the things you don't understand yet. Just play the game you want to play and take it one step at a time and it becomes a lot easier to enjoy.

I bought a lot of bad games when i was a kid.. Many of them have been left unfinished.. So i don't think gaming got worse.. It did got more expensive.. and i think way more accessible then before.. Many pc games back then did not have console ports.. Also the opposite is the case, however today many games that play on ps5 also play on switch, and for me, thats huge boost in technology.. You can play Alien Isolation mobile for example. Witch was kinda not in a mind of many when that game came out.. Gaming is more accessible then ever.. And thats how i think it got way better.. Also we have remakes of old hits..What else would one gamer need?
