Quit blaming "international fans" for believing the accusations.Korean fans LOVE to get on the latest hate train just for the fun of hurting innocent people. I am American and from the beginning it was obvious FIFTY FIFTY was caught in a fight between 2 CEO's. One, ATTRAKT, who is stupid and the other, GIVERS. who is greedy and a liar. FIFTY FIFTY will side with the GIVERS since that CEO spent time with them and made them successful. Too bad because he wanted it all and to get all he had to convince the girls to break their exclusive contract with ATTRAKT. What might have been for these girls?😮😢
@Popsori16 күн бұрын
I actually will put the blame on a lot of international fans if they jump to conclusions within the first 24 hours. If Korean fans "love to get on the latest hate train" just for fun, as you say, many international fans -- and especially American fans -- are no better. They blindly believe the first thing they hear. International fans will often bash a K-pop label and believe any accusations right away. This is a bad habit many K-pop international fans have, since they rely so much on English translation and don't understand Korean culture. At least with K-netizens, they understand the language and culture, so they understand the situation a lot better. Because of this, a lot of them will understand the other side. Or will wait for more evidence. With that said, I will admit a lot of K-netizens can be just as crazy with their opinions as international fans. Sometimes, even worse. I'm glad that you saw it was obvious that FIFTY FIFTY was caught in a fight between two CEOs. I say for K-pop fans to wait awhile to see the story unfold and reveal more evidence before taking sides. I don't think that's too much to ask.

Since I used to sell camera in retail, I tune in to camera gear sites. The photographic community around these sites have largely dismissed the concerns surrounding this event. Obviously, you get the comments mockingly asking, “who?” and just saying that what the paparazzi did was “technique”. I don’t think the people you need to understand what happened are ever going to listen.
@Popsori13 күн бұрын
Oh interesting. It looks like I'll have to disagree with the photographic community where they say the paparazzi did was purely "technique." I think it was just horrible and unprofessional. To mock a group and use derogatory terms like "how do you say right in Korean?" and another saying "arigato" is borderline racist and just disrespectful. These people, imo, are trying to justify their rude behavior and unprofessionalism... for reasons? I'm trying to see how their "technique" of insulting a group makes them wanting to pose better. I do think you're right those that believe "it was just technique" in the photography community will never listen. I guess I'll never understand their way of thinking too. As a person that used to work in journalism, all I see is a bunch of unprofessional adults cosplaying as professional media members.

@@Popsori yeah, to copy and paste one of the comments: “Paparrazi photographers have known to be offensive and there's a method to the madness, which is to elicit a response even one of anger and disgust to get an expression for an image to sell to the newspapers. Anyone who has covered the paparrazi pursuit of Princess Diana will understand this. Photographers deliberately said rude and often sexist remarks to get her to emote. I'm so glad I never went down this route.” I won’t bother showing the “woke is bad” leaning comments.

For sure, a lot of paparazzi photographers are insane and have sadly, led to deaths. I think if you have to say rude and horrible remarks to get your subject to pose well, you're not really a good photographer. Like the quote you posted above, I'm glad that person didn't go down that route either.

What is more frustrating is how Koreans didn't seem to care about their people and even made fun of Stray Kids for being 'unprofessional' and 'unfashionable'. Thanks for explaining your perspective. I think you are unintentionally paying the paparazzi a compliment by taking their opinions seriously. They are the least trusted and least respected profession in the English-speaking world. They are rude, crude, in your face, and behave outrageously to all kinds of celebrities, and have been doing this for decades. They're even complicit in the death of Lady Diana, Princess of Wales. They are invasive, blatantly disrespectful and altogether despicable. I suppose they don't get in trouble much because they are freelancers and are not employed by a particular media company like you have been. I mean, if a very drunk guy at a pub said to you, "Stray Kids look like robots", would you feel insulted? Or would you just think, "What a total moron. He doesn't even know what he's talking about." That is the same amount of weight I would give to the paparazzi's opinions. It sounds like you fear the paps made Stray Kids look bad? In fact, the only ones who look bad are the embarrassingly ignorant paps, and by extension, whoever allowed them into the event to photograph the celebrities. The event organizers could have found actual reputable journalists and photographers instead, couldn't they? Also, I would love to see how the paps treated other groups or other celebrities in general so we could have a comparison to determine if they are even ruder to K-pop or to non-western celebrities than they are to American, or English-speaking celebs. I would be extremely surprised if Stray Kids are the only ones who were treated that way. I don't think the paps care if the celebrities can hear them spout their ignorant nonsense. The paparazzi never seem to face any consequences of their actions. Another comment said something along the lines of "if the paparazzi behaved like that to American celebrities, they would be fired" or something. How many paparazzi have ever been fired? Their status as freelancers and that they seem to have no conscience lets them get away with way too much. It would have been better if more of the western media had called out the paps + the event organizers but they're probably afraid of being retaliated against/having their event access cut off. I don't think those are adequate excuses, though. Do you think an apology from the event organizer to Stray Kids would make things better? And a promise to keep paparazzi away from the met gala in the future, and only have accredited journalists there? Another comment mentioned that James Corden had been rude about K-pop? Is there anybody on the planet who cares what James Corden thinks about anything? Anyway, Stray Kids are awesome and behaved like classy professionals in a trying situation! Thank you for the video! 🙏💜🌤️
@Popsori18 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching, as always! As for the paparazzi's opinions, I'm more shocked that they're allowed at high profile events like the Met Gala. I see adults with high-gear cameras with the mentality of junior high kids, cosplaying as "photographers" to take photos and stir controversy. Like you said, they've been doing this for decades and had a hand in the death of Princess Diana. You make a good point about the bar analogy. Yeah, at a bar, if some drunken guy or gal put down Stray Kids, I'd be like "meh, they're drunk and don't know what they're talking about." The problem with the paparazzi is that they get invited to the Met Gala, one of the highest profile events, to do press work -- e.g. take photos of celebrities -- and get paid. Having worked in journalism for a long time, you expect a level of professionalism at all events. Hell, even Dispatch in Korea had a snippet of professionalism lol. Like you mentioned, Met Gala could have found professional photographers and reporters instead. These professionals would have boosted both the Met Gala and Stray Kids image in the US. Stray Kids aren't the first K-pop group to hit this disrespect at high level American events. But the fact that the paparazzi keep getting away with such horrid behavior and still invited to high profile event shows me a lot about both American journalism and the events itself. I guess as long as it generates clicks and profit, professionalism be damned. I bet if it were a huge Western/US celebrity, the Western media would be all over it. There would be a lot more backlash on the paparazzi. But because it's an Asian act... it largely goes under-the-radar :( I think if the Met Gala and more Western media called out this horrible behavior, that would have been great. Having accredited journalism credentials also help, as we did in Korea, to cut out the paparazzi. An apology from the Met Gala would have been good too. There's so many solutions to this problem. As for James Corden, yeah, I think he started liking K-pop when BTS brought in the massive views and clout on his carpool karaoke segment. I do respect the hell out of Stray Kids for remaining professional despite the disrespect. Thanks for watching the video once again! EDIT: Grammar

@@Popsori I’m sorry for the long delay in replying! I don’t know why US high-level events keep inviting paparazzi. Maybe the event organizers think all publicity is good publicity. “Even if the media we choose to invite offend some celebs, the social media engagement resulting from the controversy will be good for my event $$$$$$.” (See PS.) It is possible that if the paps were caught saying truly horrible things about an American celebrity, especially from a minority group, that the resulting uproar could tarnish the reputation of the event. In a worst-case scenario, what if several high-profile celebrities refused to attend the event next year because of ”that incident”? I guess the event organizers don’t think that far. Hopefully, Stray Kids got a lot of benefit from having attended the event. That they were invited by a respected western fashion designer proves to people, who may not have heard of them before, that they have serious star power. It also shows that Tommy Hilfiger has a global audience in mind, which can only be beneficial for his reputation and his bottom line lol. There seem to be quite a few Korean idols who are brand ambassadors for western luxury brands now. I love to see it! This means they are being taken very seriously as fashion icons, which proves that they are very talented idols, and that K-pop (+fandom) is a force to be reckoned with. PS. Regarding money versus quality, you might enjoy the channel “pitch meeting.“ A “screenwriter guy” pitches the idea for a movie or TV show to a “producer guy.” There are many examples in which the story makes little sense, but the profit will be huge so they decide not to worry about improving the story. I recommend the “pitch meeting“ for “rings of power“ as an excellent example of this! Also, the “fantastic beasts“ movies, which were Harry Potter spinoff movies, are good examples. Those were the first “pitch meetings” I saw, and I was hooked right away! You don’t need to know anything about any movie or show to enjoy the “pitch meeting” for it! There are hundreds of them, most under 10 minutes in length, and are very binge-able! PS2. “Dolittle” is my fave “pitch meeting” for indifferent story telling. Have a great weekend! Euro Cup 2024 has started! ⚽ 🙏🤩🏝🐬💫

Agree 100%! I was equally disgusted and shocked that such a prestigious event like the Met Gala, didn't even apologize or reprimand the paparazzi on this. It's a horrible look on the event's professional standards and will scare off K-pop groups from attending in the future.

I remember hearing about this. The way kpop acts are treated over here makes me not want them to attend western events anymore at all. Between James Corden making fun of kpop and its fans to American award shows inviting kpop groups because they know it brings in viewership but not respecting the idols, I'm sick of it. Kpop deserves to succeed, but no amount of validation is worth this level of disrespect and racism.
@Popsori18 күн бұрын
I totally forgot about James Corden making fun of K-pop until it became cool to invite BTS to his carpool karaoke segment. I do think K-pop acts and their labels need to be a lot more strict on which shows and events they attend. If incidents like the Met Gala happened in the past, that group doesn't attend that event. Just skip it; they'll be other events that respect K-pop. K-pop groups don't deserve to get hit with disrespect and racism.

Thank you for speaking up about this! It was absolutely disgusting how they were treated. If this was towards any other American celebrity they would be fired and reprimanded. But I'm more furious towards the Met Gala for not saying anything. This is why I really hope agencies/companies start demanding more respect for their groups. They don't need to cater to western media but quite the opposite, western media needs kpop bc they bring in so many fans which equals more clicks and money.
@Popsori19 күн бұрын
No problem on speaking about this! I was quite furious, as if it were a Western celebrity, it most likely would have made a ton of news. The Met Gala not saying anything about this is equally frustrating. I'm hoping in the future that K-pop groups and their labels are more picky on which events to go to. I hope they ask for ample security and professionalism at these events. K-pop labels can point to events like the Met Gala as why they are asking for these measures.

I am from America, and Motown was founded by Berry Gordy. Motown provided training for their artists in singing, dancing, costumes, and choreography. Our system was different from the training programs in South Korea and Japan, but there was a similar training program at Motown. In the 80s and 90s, we had more boys' and girls' groups than the Backstreet Boys. What I admire about K-pop groups is their dedication and commitment to their fans. Some of our solo artists and singing groups in America also have strong connections with their fan base, but it's different in many ways. What could work is a Korean American group who can speak Korean and English. I've noticed that K-groups are using American and European producers and songwriters for their songs. I also noticed that hip-hop and R&B influences are woven into some K-group songs and dance moves too. Black culture has historically pioneered music, dance, and fashion. The last thing is in America it's rarely a singing group that stays together.

I remember when pretty much anything Japanese was actually cool. They kind of loss their status. It went beyond pop culture. Many young people don't believe me when I tell them. Sony was kind of the "it" company for electronics. If you had a Panasonic/ Pioneer, it was kind of a status symbol,.You knew who made the top tier stuff, of the highest quality. Now they are kind of seen as subpar or totally irrelevant to Samsung. Which is kind of crazy because Samsung was kind of seen as a piece of crap. Now Samsung is the "it" company for Asian brands.

Up to last year, this analysis was spot on. Babymetal was pretty much the only one consistently touring abroad with Atarashi Gakko, Perfume, One OK Rock and bands like Scandal, Band-Maid, and one or two more doing their own limited thing. Things have changed this year with Ado and Yoasobi also holding global tours and One OK Rock doing some kind of arena tour in Asia ( - fine 👍👌) and in Europe and the US ( arenas? reckless?!?!? 🤔). XG is also said to be doing a global tour, this year, as is Atarashi Gakko. In fact, the only one who has not announced anything is Babymetal, but they just completed a massive tour of some 25 countries with 80 odd performances and have a number of festival appearances and collaborations lined up since late last year and have stated that they have no plans to hold anything in Japan for the current year. There were also hints of multiple international tours coming up. I think after Sakura Miyawaki and Yurina Hirate joining HYBE, the likes of Sony and Avex are beginning to get the jitters, so to speak. The last thing they want is the best talent from Japan joining Korean companies in search for international fame.
