Do you have any information about the carbon fiber hull being cured in an Autoclave? I thought it was not. But I have heard it was. I think i am mistaking an autoclave for a vacume chamber..
@JamieKunkaКүн бұрын
I believe they might have cured it in an autoclave oven. I’m not aware it was under any vacuum to consolidate the layers although It may have. This is probably one of the biggest reasons for the all the creaky noises. Probably a huge two part heated steel mould would have been nice to squish the thing together. Not sure if vacuum would have been strong enough on 667 layers. I heard it was also a mix of prepreg carbon and some wet layup which sounds like a disaster as well ie different resins with different curing cycles etc.

Surface prep is # 1for bonding! I don't care, build sub, go to the bottom, but don't let other people drink your Kool-aid.

1:33 "There's 667 layers of carbon fiber...." Given the circumstances, 666 might be more appropriate.

With my very limited knowledge of carbon (carbon main spar wing and bicycles) I agree 100% bonding and only working in one direction is crazy, glueing with that small flange, crazy stuff!!
@sonikblox4 күн бұрын
It’s pretty obvious stubborn idiots built it. See I’m never even built a sub and I know I wouldn’t use that material ever. Those kind of pressures are not to be taken lightly (pun intended)

notice his jacket arm patch is not embroidered. just a cheap silkscreen sticker. did the disclaimer exemplify the risk that it is a game of russian roulette? during his speaking introduction he looks like he is speaking to an audience. I bet there was no one there. nobody cared.

There wasn’t nearly enough overlap between that flange and the tube end. WTF. Mixing the Lowe’s glue with a stick. Sooo many air bubbles. Throwing other shit in for good measure. 🫣🫣🫣🫣🫣No crossing of the fibers???!!!. He is guilty of four counts of manslaughter.

Every time I see this assembly video, I get the feeling that it is done upside down. I think if I were doing this, I would have the titanium ring on the floor with the channel full of glue and then lowered the carbon fibre hull onto it.

I cannot wait for the NTSB report. Odd things happen at very high pressure differentials; for example, if the viewport blew then the vessel could have exploded from the mother of all water hammers, with the heat of compression and possible steam generation adding to the mix.

“… It’s 667 layers of carbon fiber…” says rush. 667? That’s one more than 666. Is it not?
@louisecann7118Ай бұрын
I just noticed @7:39 , the ring that is epoxied to the “carbon fiber tube” is split. If you’ll look at it, you’ll notice the sunshine is shining through the white plastic cover and you can see where there’s a huge split at the top around 11 o’clock..

I wish you luck ridding your area of these disgusting fly magnets. We put down mulch years ago yhat had these spores in it. No matter what we've done they always come back and everywhere. Just when you think finally,..and they're back. Even removing all the old mulch and surrounding soil, a constant battle. Again good luck and don't let your guard down.

Thank you so much! Cool history lessons about our ancients : ) Much appreciated. I Cannot wait to try this method and boil it down a bit, possibly making a juniper, Scot's pine and birch gin. You dived in on all of the amino acids and phytochemical constituents as well which was mu favorite part, great work!

Thank Jamie for sharing some of your knollage here with the wider world. I found you looking for knolage about birch water and found myself working through most of your videos. I happen to have some birch polypore that i dryed last yr, which is now boiling in a pot on my stove as im having digestive trouble and a stinking cold. I also have more of it thats been steeping in alcahol for several months now so ill mix some in with the tea for a full spectrum of yummys. Im looking forward to how my body reacts. Thanks again for being apart of keeping a collective knollage of the magical gift from the natural world alive xR

Given his attitude, if a more robust design (e.g. a range of orientations) had been used, he simply would have done more dives until it eventually failed. The only thing that changes in this hypothetical is the identities of the people who died.
