I just watched a video of nimble needles and he says the stich should be twisted back on to the needle. This is basically a normal bind of but done in a different manner. Or maybe with a smaller twist. I would have to try it to see the actual difference myself. Looks more convenient than passing over stiches though.

I wasn't looking for this tutorial but happy i came across it. I usually use a purl row to define my folded brim. This only looks nice for stockinette stiches. Happy to have a better option for rib. Hopefully if works for folded neck too 😊

Thank you, great trick. Already did it on two hats👍🏻 QUESTION: Can this be done with a 2K 2P brim? or is it only suitable for 1K 1P brim?
@LoneGems
@LoneGems 4 ай бұрын
I think it can be done on a 2x2 rib stitch. What will happen is the floats on the back will be a bit longer, so as long as you are okay with the longer floats it will be fine. When you do Fair Isle you typically don't want to have floats longer than 3 stitches without being caught again. Also keep an eye on your tension as you go, if you pull too tight you could loose the elasticity in the knitting. You could also seam the knit brims together to hide the floats on the inside and permanently lock the brim in place.

Hi, This is the first video of yours that I've seen. Found it in the free pattern for the scarf you showed early in the video. And, I found the pattern link on Ravelry. I first loved the look of the scarf and the pattern being free was a big bonus. Thank you so much for that, btw. I really appreciate your tool recommendations too. I had no real idea what blocking wires were or how to use them. And, I've been wondering about sock blockers too. You really cleared up my biggest questions about those too. Thank you again! To date, I've only got one pair of socks under my belt but, they weren't blocked. It didn't keep me from wearing the heck out of them though. Anyway, between the interesting pattern (that also had me learning 💜 a new cast on & bind off) and the video, I had to hit that subscribe button and the bell too. 🥰 I know you have more for me to learn, thank you again. 💜✌️🧶

Thanks for the great tutorial, this is exactly what I was looking for! I have 2 questions, would really appreciate the extra guidance. 🙏 1. If my hat uses 2x2 ribbing, could I get a similar result by doing s2 wyib, p2? Or does this work best only as described? (s1 wyib, p1) 2. Could you clarify which way the fabric bends? If I have the RS facing me while I work 2 rounds of this fold line, will the fabric bend toward me (RS) or away from me (WS)? Thanks again!
@afibercollective
@afibercollective Жыл бұрын
This is a great question!! I haven’t tried the 2x2 yet - I wonder what slipping 2 side by side will do. To answer your question, when knitting the right side, the part after the bend leans towards you - so essentially the two right sides will be facing eachother when the brim is folded, just like when knitting a folded brim beanie without the special add in. Does that make sense?
@jzimbel

I like the style of blocking wires you showed. I have some that come wound in a tin. When you unfurl them, it can be dangerous if you don’t control the ends. They work great and I have two tins with two sizes. They are great for shawls. The knitter’s pride pins were a game changer for me when I bought them. I have three sets now that I have acquired over time. The knit picks brand and knitter’s pride brands are great for blocking accessories.

Hi Claire: I found your podcast from the YT feed and subscribed right away. I love your podcast. It is so good! You did not appear nervous. You were genuine and your business offer another avenue to source yarn of lesser known farms and small businesses. Thank you for the Ryegate hat pattern, it is so lovely. I recalled your brand and followed you on Instagram. So glad you decided to podcast last year, now we know your brand a little better. Love your Searchlight Raglan sweater! I am so inspired to knit it. Does it contain short rows? I am not sure whether I can cable and do short row shaping simultaneously. I am not so good with doing German short rows for some reason. I just had to frog a raglan with short rows yesterday because I messed up the short rows. Going to try it again today. I am new to sweater knitting and trying to learn. Good luck with your lovely podcast! Keep up with the awesome work! ❤❤

Hi May Joe! Thank you for your kind words! The Searchlight Raglan does have short rows but the pattern breaks everything down row by row. I'm so sorry to hear you had to frog a raglan - that's always such a bummer! Sweater knitting is so rewarding once you understand the techniques (part of why I'm offering tutorials!). I'll see if I can make a GSR tutorial in the near future. I'm always happy to chat via email if you need some one on one help!
@aknitlife
@aknitlife Жыл бұрын
@@afibercollective I know how to do GSR, sometimes it gets confusing. Is the GSR shaping happening with the cables simultaneously? If so, not sure know if my skill level is up to par. I am currently knitting another raglan pattern. Would like to try your pattern, but not sure if I can be successful. I’ve seen Amanda (Birch & Lily) worn it on her podcast and some of your other testers’ beautiful sweaters! I love their sweaters. I want to knit a sweater with some cables, but not crazy amount of cables. Your pattern seems to fit my criteria. Thanks for the heads up! ☺️

The sweater is LOVELY. I will be awaiting its release and looking forward to casting it on. The socks look great too. I love knitting slipper / sleep socks but use a recipe instead of an actual pattern, and as a result they frequently don't fit. However I've never swatched in the round, so... there's that. Might try your pattern next time.

@afibercollective Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for that! It truly is a joy to knit - just enough mellow coupled with a bit of interest to keep it from being too boring. Recipe socks are truly wonderful - when they fit. I would recommend swatching or simply adjusting your needle size if they're just too small or too big.
