I have a full-blown haor algae problem in my 75 gallon tank. Much like the video you have of yours. I didnt know it was hair algae because my Red Sea lights make it look red. All along I treated the tank for cyano. My problem is 75 gallons is too small for any of the fish you mentioned. I dont want to treat with chemicals like flux rx, but I might. Everytime I do a water change the algae goes wild growing even though I syphon a lot of it out.😭
@tylerhuxford34404 күн бұрын
If it helps, I used flux rx in a 40 gallon tank, and it did WONDERS. And that was in a full blown reef, nothing died

I have to sell my power blue Because it killed my copperband butterflyfish Bullied my blue tang so much , it almost stopped eating Even after introduction of 7 large new fish ( including tang , foxface , angels ) in hope to divide aggression - it wouldn't stop to be tank boss and harassing So It was a must go fish . Such a shame for such a bold and beautiful fish ❤❤ u can watch my channel to get a view of the beauty Lesson I learn: never add acanthus group fishes fish Mainly power blue, powder brown , sohal tang , etc . They should be introduced last !! Less aggressive fishes should established their territory first

Microbacter 7 says to turn of skimmer and UV for first 4 hours when you dose. Do you recommend just keeping those both running?
@tylerhuxford344017 күн бұрын
The skimmer I turn off, but the UV sterilizer I leave running. They’ve updated those instructions, it didn’t use to mention the uv sterilizer at all. It’s worked for me 💪☺️

@@tylerhuxford3440so one more last thing… I’m on day 10 (just dosed vibrant on day 8) and I checked my phosphate and it’s at 4.4!!! Is that normal? Should I just start the course or do the water change now? Ps the tank is looking much better and the corals looking better
@tylerhuxford34408 күн бұрын
@@kylealexander954hey glad the tank is looking better ☺️ I will tell you how I feel about phosphates, and this isn’t bible, this is just the gospel according to the red reefer 😅 I don’t test for phosphates ever. I go by the eye test on phosphates. “Are corals doing well? Great, keep going.” Because the fact of the matter is, even a low reading on phosphates can mean your phosphates are actually too high but you have loads of algae sucking it all out so your test reads clean 🤷♂️ on the other hand, high phosphates might just mean you have nothing problematic sucking phosphates out of the water. I only test for calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium, and for the most part, things go really well
@kylealexander9548 күн бұрын
@@tylerhuxford3440gotcha well the Dino’s are definitely gonna and all my zoas are finally opening and not all stretched out so I’ll just stay the course and do the water change when you said and hopefully things go back to normal. My tank has looked like crap the last 2-3 months and have been losing corals and I couldn’t figure out why. Guess it was the Dino’s because everything looking much better already 👍🏻

Never came back! I did recently add macro algae to my tank, and that sort of took over. The flux rx doesn’t work on Marco algae, but a tuxedo urchin took care of that. The GHA hasn’t come back though!

I would recommend an acclamation box for any introduction but especially tangs, I have 17 tangs in a single tank including a number of acanthurus tangs in the same tank, a powder blue, achillies, convict and a dussumieri so they can be kept together QT and tank size is key.

We have a 30+ year old 125G acrylic tank that I brought back from Japan when I was in the Air Force. So a Japan Surgeon fish was a must :). Took our LFS about a month to get one for us. Went to pick it up and noticed that it was flashing :(. But it looked healthy and was eating like a pig so we brought it home. We QT everything wet, CUC, coral and even liverock before it goes into our DT. After being in QT for 60 days, we added the powder brown and it's been healthy with our other tangs, yellow, purple and Desjardini for over two years. Setting up an 96" 310G and plan to add an Achilles when everyone goes into the new tank :).

What other tips would you give any newbie interested in a Powder Blue Tang?? 👇
@KolkataMarineHobbyist13 күн бұрын
6:00 You can add acanthurus group tang together Rule of thumb : put 2-3 or more together at the same time So none of them are established before, as these fishes are highly territorial once established, also having other large fishes of similar temperment may help to keep and divide the aggression level down Lol I can't even keep my power blue with my blue tang in my 5 feet tank . Both were introduced together, it was good and well for months .. Then suddenly they powder blue started attacking my blue tang constantly!! So I have to divide them , and finally rehome the powder blue!!! Note : I only have powder blue, blue tang and few clownfish that time .

A clown fish is never bored 😅 especially if they’re in a pair! They might love being the only fish in the tank. Just protect any LPS corals you have in the tank, they’ll rub those things to death
