The fact that it released with dlc is just scummy. If you made content before release it should all be there. If this continues it will hinder my enjoyment of the series

My biggest issue with him isnt even a issue with him its that they tried to tie ebina to him through his theme i see more comparison to shishido with someya than i do ebina obviously shishido isnt like him its more his role someya was the last old school yakuza like a hero to the tojo whereas shishido was the final legend to carry the omi it keeps that rivalry between the 2 alive in my head with someya being a better person not fueled with pure hatred but for love he wanted to be good to his daughter but shishido is fueled by rage desperate to finally break free from everything hes went through and reach the top ebina is in no way like someya in any way they arnt even opposites like shishido can be seen as ebina is the yakuzas past biting them in the foot going for revenge for everything taken from him.. correct me if im wrong and sorry if this yapfest doesnt make much sence lol

I feel that the reason iwami´s tattoo has nothing to do with his story or character is a representation of iwami not knowing anything about the yakuza or their customs, and how he just wants to be a yakuza legend without puttting in the effort or respecting the traditions. i think its totally plausible that he just walked into a tattoo parlor and asked for a back tattoo that looked cool, because every other yakuza had one and he didn´t care what the tattoo meant

idk yall but i love majima everywhere (and mr shakedown) systems, idk, something about having the same fodders everywhere that pose zero challenge even when i'm on early game on hard difficulty of the new game i just got into from the series, the lack of an actually strong opponent kinda breaks it for me. i'm in Yakuza 5 and i haven't seen one system with those strong opponent stuff come back yet.

Don't get me wrong, the Snake style in Lost Judgement wasn't exactly necessary, but I'm glad Yagami has it. It's not only kinda fun, but its also pretty good in combos.

Honestly the abilities of Mirror Face aren't the problem here. He has a ultra duper supernatural abilitie to copy another person? Sure okay, he's a superassassin. We're talking about a series where shirtless buff men launch eachother across multiple floors and keep fighting. I'd say it's even inconsistent to not believe this supernatural abilities from Mirror Face; we're talking about Yakuza logic. It's the way he was used in the story which makes him kinda wack.

Excellent video. Found your channel from the Like a Dragon podcast after trying to find people who wanted to discuss all the spoilery details of the story. Infinite Wealth's new additions pretty much lay the groundwork for many future games being fun and exciting to play, from the quality of life improvements, to the new lore, locations etc. I really hope the next game takes us back to some Y5 towns.

I'm going to start playing the games and I have an idea for a series of games that's not really a prequel but a spin off series that follows another character by the name of Kenji Sasaki and it would take place from 1987 to 1999. I would also make sure it would aligns and correlates with the established lore of the series

A chunk of what makes Someya so great was the performance of his actor, the legendary Shun Oguri, who played Takiya Genji in Crows Zero. Oguri was given freedom to interpret his character and played the entire series up until 6. Plus, him and Takaya Kuroda (Kiryu’s actor) had experience working together in an anime called Rainbow: Nisha Rokubo no Shichinin. Someya genuinely respected Kiryu, but believed that his idealized way of being a Yakuza had failed. Kamurocho was a mess, the Tojo was a mess and some advisor from the Second Chairman’s days was showing everyone up. Like Kiryu before him, Someya wants to save the Tojo Clan, but he wasn’t going to it Kiryu’s way because in his eyes, his ways had failed. He portrayed himself as having no ideals to speak of and acted so superficially so that he could reach the top and accomplish his goals. He would reject the ideals of the Yakuza that Kiryu believed in not because he’s evil, but because he wants to keep up with the modern times, just like Nishiki did back in the 80s. If he had revealed that he believed in anything, he would be seen as a threat that had to be eliminated by the likes of Sugai. But in the end, he couldn’t tackle someone as soulless as Iwami or someone as greedy as Sugai and had someone close to him be used against him. If you want further proof that he was more honorable than he let on. He spilled his guts out both figuratively and literally to ensure Kiyome was free and happy.

One of the small annoyances I had with Majima Everywhere is trying to get dragon upgrades that are tied to fighting a specific Majima. I'd run to where Majima is on the map, only to find it's not zombie or idol majima. So I'd have to use a tip which is to go in and out of the drug store, to get the Majima I need to fight.

Good stuff man, didn't know this! It's fascinating to learn about easter eggs like this, I feel like compared to other game franchises, Yakuza easter eggs often aren't brought up. In Yakuza 5 I had fun using all the save data gear items for Kiryu that represented past games, like the Ryuji binding and the money stacks. I believe the Ukiyo bell was there was well.

I agree with the most of the opinons on story and OST, but I don't agree on a lot of gameplay comments. Wong Tou's self heal is a regen used near the end of the fight, to punish slow turtling strategies. If you're engaging with the actual mechanic of the fight - that you're supposed to use magic attacks to get around his evasion and exploit his elemental weaknesses - it might not even extend the fight by a single attack. Wong Tou in general is pretty clearly a check on if you've been paying attention to the game's mechanics because the bosses before him were fairly mecahnically simple. Silence is a legitimate threat in IW, not being able to use your skills hurts. It's not just slowing you down, it's preventing buffs, healing, and debuffing. Dwight 2 - His backup has low health, they're weaker than even street thugs. It's clearly to incentivise using AoE attacks. When I did this fight, most of the time they didn't even get an action cause I had something like Chitose using Bubble Bale to take out large groups. Most of your complaints are on mechanics that extend the length of fights - healing, restrictive status ailments and back up - but the fight against the three also does this, Daigo has an ability he can practically spam which increases the entire team's defence and willpower, and Majima boosts his evasion.

Yakuza 3 did some of the most interesting things with their soundtrack and imo it's also a rare moment of the localisation surpassing the original. The "sad" version of Fly that plays in the Rikiya scene isnt in the Japanese version. And the credits theme "tears of the father" is based on a piece of uncredited music in the Yakuza 1 soundtrack (that also appears in Kiwami), it plays only once during the mission that probably would have been a substory in a more modern game, where the Florist makes you run an errand for his son and the daughter of a yakuza patriarch, the theme plays during the cutscene where the yakuza patriarch is crying tears of pride at how his daughter has grown up and taken control of her own life. The Yakuza 3 western release presumably couldnt use whichever upbeat song originally played over the credits, so made their own instrumental theme based on that piece of music, which fits Yakuza 3 so perfectly and thematically I struggle to believe it wasnt in the original. The theme that plays when Kiryu fights Joji (lyricism without tears) shares a motiff with the final long battle theme (clay doll on the cradle) for when Kiryu is battling through the hospital. It's pretty rare that RGG has variations on the same piece of music, and normally this only happens for a given character (like Kuze's themes).

Someya was a better character and villain, but i think Iwami genuinely is a better choice for final boss of 6 specifically. A big emphasis in 6 is on the idea of like, times have changed. Someya represents this in a lot of the game, but in the end it's revealed he genuinely is an honorable person at heart. Imo Iwami is probably the most polar opposite to Kiryu an antagonist has ever been. A cold, uncaring, sneaky rat who will fuck over any and all. He steals the final boss fight from more honorable foes, and is totally the type of Yakuza Kiryu hates.

This could always just be my head canon, but instead of condemning the game for making it seem like Aizawa's heel turn made no sense, I ended going down a path that really made me think about how Aizawa behaves, and what would possibly lead him here. My interpretation/theory, is that Aizawa is a hypocrite, and deep down deeply doubts himself. If Aizawa were confident in his beliefs truly, then he would never have a reason to go with Kurosawa's plan, which he mentions he could've just..._not_ done at any point, and was clearly only done out of desperation due to his approaching death. If kurosawa were healthy, what would he need Aizawa for? Which leads me to believe that the only reason that Aizawa goes along with his father, is because he knew he _needed_ the backbone from him in order to get anywhere. While he should absolutely despise this idea, instead of denying the gifts, he finds a way to justify it, by saying if he beats Kiryu here and now, then maybe he can someone worth inheriting Kurosawa's will. He will have quelled his insecurity, and got the power he dreamed of through "effort", and no one would question it. Because he beat kiryu. But we all know how it goes...

On the subject of yakuza 6, im a tad upset on how peoplr undersell the value of Iwami being the final antagonist of 6. Its been done in other games, but Iwami is of the cruelist and most interesting reflection _of_ kiryu in my opinion. One with the same story, but no redeeming qualities. He's like if kiryu never progressed past his gilded view of the yakuza as a teenager and grew entitled. While Iwami is nothing yo really to feel sorry for, I can't help but pity him. Such an awful person enabled by everyone around him for a reminder that he's entirely loveless.

A cool detail about Someya's final fight are the suits both him and Kiryu are wearing: Kiryu, who at this point is overcome with rage at Iwami and Sugai and fully intends to kill them once he gets to them, ditches his iconic grey suit and wears a black funeral suit instead, representing his dark intentions. On the other hand, Someya is rocking a white suit: right now, his only reason for fighting is to protect the people he cares about, even though he disagrees with Iwami and Sugai, knows nothing is stopping them from breaking their word anyway, and that he probably won't win against Kiryu no matter how hard he tries, but he fights anyway: his intentions literally could not be more pure in this moment, hence the white.

So glad somebody finally in detail, talking about how Someya didn't go out redeemed. He went out humanized. The other comment about the licensed songs says it really well. Despite it all, Someya felt regret for his failure. You can basically label his reaction to Kiyomi's death with the 5 stages of grief, doing the one last good thing he could for his loved ones. Even Nagumo respects his last wish. It caught me off guard my first playthrough, and I had way more of an impact from it than 6's ending. 6 is a great game whatsoever, though. Even if it never truly was meant to be the end of Kiryu's story, Someya was really special. For the screentime he had, he was perfectly characterized. As Nagoshi said in an interview, he wrote Someya as the "Tojo Clan's last hero". He'll always be my favorite RGG antagonist, or ya know, tragedy.
