I saw this in a NYC theatre with my brother 40 years ago, we just walked in knowing nothing -- and while the first reels went on however pleasantly, normally, maybe even banally? The last ten minutes of this film were so incredibly moving so remarkably touching, thx to the very gifted director (and a big thank you to Pat Metheny) that to this day I remember my tears as I exited

She seems so sure, but in reality, the marriage probably ended a few years later. She’s barely out of high school and her fiance works at a drugstore and they can’t afford their own place.

Pat is like an older brother to me. We share a lot of similarities - Midwest boys, similar age, very very similar musical priorities and orientations, .... but I am not brilliant nor was I successful early on leading to the possible possibility of surfing cascading waves of affirmation. For us mortals there is a double edged sword yet one side is sharper than the other. The sharpest side is the side of blessing, enrichment, life-connection found in music; digging the nuanced harmony and the possible secret stories, having a brain that gets jacked up while paying attention to the many many fine details as we get a chance to flow with Pat as he weaves beauty. The duller side is not realizing my own potential. Many people feel this. But music is a gift. A gift for oneself first - the biggest, then a gift for the contours of life - of which there are many. Music is a gift for the heart, the intellect, the spirit, for work, play, love, poetry, travel, meditative thoughts, regret and absolution, a sister who died, Tuesday, waking, sleeping, running, changing course, etc. etc. etc. So while I listen I feel both - the loss and the gain but the gain wins, plus, I am not dead yet so there is still hope to capture some of my own thing. But Pat, should you ever read this, thank you. You have been diligent and unbelievably responsible with your abilities, your time, your choices, your options. Your abilities and intellect and memory could not have been granted to a better person.

...In this terribly, dysfunctional World, Mr. Metheny stands alone...He has been a friend of my Hammer, Anvil and Stirrup since 1979...When I first heard "San Lorenzo" on KJAZ in San Francisco...And siad to myself "...What the hell was that..."...His myriad pieces of music have been gifts...And I believe he creates them with that intent...He is a generous, good person...One would have to be in order to create this beautiful, fascinating Music...Every other person in Music pales in comparsion...He has constantly gone upward...Never content with being on a particular level or standing still...He is an explorer of Worlds...And his Music tells us about these Worlds..."...I am certan of nothing except the holiness of the Heart's affections...And the truth of the Imagination..."(Keats)...Blessings hither and yon...

I watched this film in an empty theater in Burlington, Vermont in 1985. I watched this scene and started crying. At 23 years old, I wept for what I knew was my fading youth... This is a beautiful movie.

Fantastic concert in West Reading, PA in April. After being a fan for nearly 40 years, I was thrilled to finally see Pat perform for the first time ever in my life. I am really sad that I never got to see Lyle and PMG live but I will always love the music.
