Hello, I have a technical question if you would please help me understand. Does the deck become completely waterproof after the Base Coat? How about the intermediate? If it rains hard between these two or after intermediate but before the finished coat, is there a chance of leaks? Thank You.

I have a small upstairs deck that needs to be sealed up. Below it, is a storage area so would be nice not to have water drip into it from above. I store lawn furniture in there. The deck is about 100 sq ft in size, just boards close together, but no plywood sheeting. These boards have gaps in between. If you were to do that same treatment, plywood, wire netting, stucco... how much would that be approximately? The sides of the deck have open gaps all around, with a wooden rail for safety. How would the water drain from deck? I guess you could squeegee it off, right? Then seal up the stair structure below to create a nice storage area below deck. Do you folks use any waterproofing membrane like Schluter Kerdi membrane over the plywood?

I just got a bid of $15 per sq.ft. here in N.Ca. Seems high then, and it does not even include the flashing. The deck is a newly built 500 sq.ft. deck with proper sloping and is five ft. of the ground. Do you know how Pli-Dek brand compares to Desert Crete?? No one here willing to answer that question. Thank you in advance!

Again, it is $8/sq ft for the coating system...this does not include extras like flashing or deck repair

i have a wood deck that use to have a 2x4 wall with siding covering its face and protecting its ledge. I am demoing that and putting up some face mounted open cable railing. The question is now how to properly flash the edge for when the wind blow rain in sideways? In this video you wrap the edge in drip flashing, which looks to overlap 3" or so on top and on the vertical? Would this be enough with my application if i also put a thin bead of caulking as well to keep water out? The rest of my deck is covered by my roof overhang so it does not get constant rain exposure.

Josh, that's what i thought. I see your in SD I'm from San Clemente and now live and work in Nicaragua in the construction industry and am looking for a good alternative for exterior grade ply, which is not available down here. I worked on these decks before but wanted to see in your professional opinion if you had any ideas for alternatives. Thanks

Thanks for the question! We offer a 5+5 year warranty. Yet, if the deck is properly maintained it can last up to 30 years.
