Why can't someone just find the engineers who made the original DDR/ITG pads and see if they are willing to make pads of that quality for the community market or reverse engineer the DDR or ITG Pads and find a way to get them produce with newer materials?

As a long time DDR/ITG player, I understand where everyone is coming from. It takes out the complexity of going for scoring and solely focuses on "can you survive the song". Which wasn't the original intended purpose, but things evolve. And wiggling to conserve stamina by sacrificing accuracy is an interesting observation. However, I do understand the concept.

I genuinely think that the tx not only sounds better but the pads are also better (without mods) and i like the design better, also, 55" is way too much 50" doesnt sound like that much less but it's definitely noticeable and in my opinion it's perfect, in love with the tx

Stamina is just a certain way to play the game. That’s it. Some people play for FA (or MA, or if you’re old like me, PA). Some people play for freestyle and/or routines (and yes, those are different things). And some just play because it’s fun. But stamina wasn’t really much of a thing early on, specifically, DDR Extreme and prior (maybe Supernova, but by then, I wasn’t playing much so I’m not as familiar with it). Extreme and prior, there were no stamina charts than can compare to the madness you see today. I tried to break the endurance record on DDR in 2001, which at the time was a paltry 8 hours (and pre Extreme). I beat it, but my documentation wasn’t sufficient so Guiness wasn’t interested. Keep in mind this is pre-smart phone. Not everyone had the ability to easily live stream. But I digress. It was nothing to play the whole catalog of songs on a given version up to and including Extreme. Now bring ITG into the mix. That definitely raised the bar on stamina. And now, the top tier stamina charts require such ludicrously fast foot speed, that I wonder if it’s even plausible or possible to pass, FC, or FFC/FMC some of them WITHOUT minimizing foot movement. In fact, I doubt anyone could play 8+ hours nonstop of such stamina challenges. But like I started with: with the advent of crazy charts, stamina is just a new way to play. I close with this: there’s practically nothing danceish about how you play these stamina challenges. It’s not very much of the “D” in “DDR.”

The cost of an L-Tek pad to New Zealand goes up to over $800 NZD including shipping... It's high, but I guess people probably spend the same on gym equipment so when putting it into perspective like that it doesn't seem so horrible. On the plus side, getting a computer to install StepMania (or your fork of choice) on is the cheap part - any second hand refurbished PC will run it. Buy yourself an old HP or Dell mini PC and go to town. I run it on an old Wyse 5060 thin client that I found for $40, and with the magic of nerd shit I was able to set it up as a dedicated StepMania machine running ITGMania. I'd say at the very least, start yourself off with a cheap second hand PC and a soft mat to see if this is something you'll want to get into and then go from there.

If nobody explained it to you or you haven't looked into it yet: A measure is a small portion in the song that is defined by a designated number of beats. Dance games are mostly done in a 4/4 time signature which assigns 4 beats in a measure and a quarter note/blue arrow is what the beat is on. The red arrow is an 8th note, and green is a 16th note so there could be up to 4 red arrows and 8 green arrows in a measure If it was a 3/4 time signature, you'd get 3 beats with a quarter note as the beat which gives it the waltz feel. 6/8 Time signature would be 6 beats in the measure with an eighth note as the beat. Best reference for that time signature I can think of would be Pirates of the Caribbean theme When you're talking about the streams being in 4, 8, 16, or 32 measures, those are phrases where "ideas" in the music will change from the previous section. A new instrument will be added in, a change in melody, a crescendo or build up into a new segment of the song etc. I believe they're usually done every 4 measures in dance music Sorry if any of that was shit you already knew, but I hope my explanation helped some
