I'm trying to get as much info as I can to decide on what classes to take next if I can get into a 4 year college. I'll be getting an associate degree that's composed of intro CS and CIS classes this semester. Never thought I'd get this far and now I'm worried on how to go forward if possible. It'd be easier to go for the CIS at this point but I'm not really interested in the business side of CIS but I still have like another year for math courses if I opt for CS.

In many countries CS and IT are interchangeable. IT has so many CS subjects, in countries like Japan, China or even Philippines there are many IT majors that are better programmers than some CS. I was surprised how low they think of IT and IS in the West where I saw on reddit how they trashtalk these majors.

I'm currently a PTA and am looking at going back to school. I've always been interested in technology and cyber security. My job feels dead end with no career growth so that's a large part in why I'm looking elsewhere. I've been doing this for 5 years and am ready for a change! I'm 28 and want to do it now while I'm still young. Any advice on how to prepare for this is much appreciated

Hey I just saw your video on why you chose computer information systems over computer science and I had a question. I'm currently in my first year of computer science and absolutely hate it primarily because I don't get coding and I'm not very good at it. I was thinking of switching to business and heard that computer information systems is the one of the best business business degrees out there. My question is, is there coding in computer information systems and if there is, is it as heavy and hard as computer science? Instagram wouldn't let me message you for some reason so I'm commenting.

Hey! My computer information systems degree 2-year was highly involved with coding, and actually got to more coding than CS students. If you’re looking for something more business-focused with less coding I would recommend something more in tech management or project management. Take a look around the programs at your college and see the curriculums that best align to your interest. Hope this helps!

I’m looking up all kinds of videos on the tech side and I’m just trying to choose lol So far I’m thinking computer information systems. I like that it has the business side of things mixed with tech. And not too much math. I think I would REALLY enjoy doing pen testing or being part of a red team. Hopefully this degree is broad enough to get into that, but not put myself in a box either.

Why not be proud of it! That’s how I’m looking at this. I’m 27 and doing community college, I just finished my GED 2 months ago and I’m proud because I never thought I would even get that. Now I’m gonna feel the same when I get my CIS degree. I watched the previous video and this one. We are doing it! Don’t let anything bring you down. Keep working hard and figuring it out. That’s what life is about. It’s also never too late for anything, as long as there is air in our lungs. 💪

Hey bro, I’m currently getting my associates in CS, but I’m scared I’m not gonna get all the information needed for me to get a job after. So do you have any tips on what to learn, so that I can learn on my free time. I’m currently learning Java. Or do you recommend getting my bachelors in CS to learn more?

I would say it all depends on what you want to end up doing in the end. Most software jobs today use web technologies, but it’s not always the case. Sites like FreeCodeCamp can be an awesome resource if you want to look into other paths as well in tech, and their courses can teach a lot for free. My biggest advice is gonna be to never rely on your degree to get you job ready, it just won’t happen unfortunately. The work you do outside of college will be more valuable, but the degree helps to get your foot in the door. Hope this helps!:)

dude, after highschool (I had half senior year due to covid), I went straight into college after working at so many different restaurants from 9th grade till 12th. I stopped working and just grinded out college for a while majoring in CS. I had FASFA issues for my aid during my second semester and had to stop attending so I took a gap semester then returned to community college the next year pursuing a registered nursing degree but after another half year of my family going through medical issues and seeing the really bad side of the medical field I had to step away from that and now I am back at that community college studying CIS for a 2 year degree, I would like to go back to college after but similarly to you, I really enjoy building cool stuff, I tinkered with toys and electronics as a kid always usually breaking them but even as I am now older I still find myself rebuilding junk weedwhacker motors for fun. I have about a year left till I am done with this associates and I am still not sure what I am gonna do, I live in a state with plenty of good 4 year colleges but I really don't think I would enjoy going back into CS(my professors were all horrible old men who just hated everything during covid). I am already applying to places to work in IT, looking for mainly a entry role in administration of some sort and I know there is just a pile of resumes that I am in but I will keep sending them. This is about a year old so I hope you were able to complete school while in Korea and had a good time

Thank you so much for sharing your story. It is credible that you are keeping through, and I am wishing you nothing but luck to reaching a goal that you will enjoy. Don't stress rushing too quick into a four year degree if you can help it, you may find that two year one is enough. There is a portion of me that regrets not getting a CS degree, but it currently has not held me back from continuing in the field and moving forward. Trust your gut and move forward to what you feel is best to you. Rooting for you! Thanks for such a kind and genuine comment:)

To pple who dont understand our career and who we are..as IS guys. . Is experts , we are I. T experts with an understanding of the business world. Whike on the contrary, A computer scientist is a conputer expert who doesnt understand how businesses work.(they hv to take extra courses in business modules to understand the business world) Do you spot the difference? I hope this helps you to choose careers.

At my school it’s called integrated studies, others it’s multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary studies. My route in integrated studies would be similar to yours, focused on coding and web development. With that being said, do you think tech careers will accept “integrated studies” rather than “computer science” or “computer information systems” or some type of STEM degree. I don’t have any real world experience at the moment.

actually, CS is an applied msth degree more than an engineering degree. a CS major will never have to take a class in fluid dynamics, mechanics of materials (statics and dynamics), or thermodynamics and kinetics like all engineers.
