If everyone worried about not being able to sustain something when aged no one would ever do anything. You have to live life in the now as well

People are ignorant. They make assumptions based on the ideas that they have been programmed with and don’t have the brain power to do their own research or see things from a different perspective. Brain washed by society to follow the leader blindly so that they are relevant on the system. These are the same people that will not be able to survive when (not if) but when something happens. They will be standing in long lines waiting for their rationed handouts wishing they would have listened. Your kids will be healthier in the long run bc they are not taking antibiotics for every little sniffle and are getting dirty which gets their immune system working strong like our bodies were created to do. You don’t owe anyone any explanations for your choices. But I do appreciate you being willing to educate the masses on the truths they are so blind to.

You and your family are very inspiring. It’s refreshing to see more and more people embracing alternative ways of living and reclaiming their freedom from the ‘rat race’. You get it, unfortunately the majority won’t understand. Love from Australia 🇦🇺

Yes! Absolutely take advantage of it now, while you still can. Hopefully your choices now will help to provide you with assistance when you’re in need of that. I had so much energy in my 20s and 30s. I made sure none of that went to waste. I can look back on those years now and smile. I had a lot of loss, in the form of losing my mother and most of my closest friends. But while we were all still alive, we got busy with the business of living, knowing it would not last forever. Next time someone says you’re lazy, have them come live your life your way for one week. Lazy, my donkey’s little backside! As for your kids? You are teaching them valuable life skills that other kids their age may never have. Until they have lived in your shoes, they have no right to judge. You might find a polite way of reminding them of that. 😉

I stumbled upon your channel yesterday trying to get answers how I can change our own lives and what to cut. I am saddened to hear that people not being nice to off the grid. Our culture is being so spoiled with the modern way of life(Indoor plumbing, electricity, netflix and devices. They do not fully understand the concept of living a clean and off the grid life. You are doing what’s best to protect your kids. Living as what you can afford. You are investing in a land that will benefit your family for many years to come. Sorry people been rude about this kind of lifestyle. Its better way to live.

Janet Andrews hello from Virginia: What happened to your two daughters? Did they get an apartment together if so, aren't you contradicting yourself. I'm sure with rent so high wouldn't that be stressful for them or did your oldest go to the military? You just show you your husband and baby it appears your two daughters just vanished what's up?

THIS! There are so many people that are afraid to live out their dreams. Modern conveniences have spoiled us and made most people afraid to live without those conveniences. I would much rather live a simple, debt free, self contained life than one that stresses me out because I have to work at a job that I don't like over 40 hours a week just to pay for those conveniences. My family and I are working towards a simple life. It may not be completely off grid, but it will be close to it.

I bought a 1972 holiday travler by holiday rambler and fixed it up. I am living in it on my dad's property right now with plans to buy my own land when he retires and moves in a few years. I added a 30 amp electrical outlet to his house myself and pay a sum towards the bill. His house is on a well so water is free for both of us. The price of housing is absolutely insane and general cost of living is skyrocketing too. I am in my mid 20s and I work a proper job. I could probably afford to rent something in the ghetto but it would be extremely tight and leave little room for saving money and emergency expenses. Living on my dad's property allows me to minimize my expenses, maximize my savings, and have something to put towards some land when the time comes. My only bills currently are car insurance, RV insurance, cellphone service, food, gas, and a bit of electricity. There are some smaller things too but those are the biggest ones. I own my vehicle and my RV and I dont have a 2-3k rent payment so that opens up a lot of room in the budget to save money for the future.

Water and bleach simple and will disinfect. Its state standard to kix water and bleach for basic cleaning like roughly a cap full if that per spray bottle. Cleaning hack. Also making your own detergent for laundry simple and cheap cheap cheap. 20 per month vs 1-2 dollars

If I could physically handle having a homestead, I would so be doing it right now. Absolutely keep going with your goals at your age, you will be so glad that you did! I can look back now and wish I would've had a clearer idea of the things I really wanted, like property, a large garden, to be away from people, lol, so I could have made it happen. We are still hoping to have the property, but the housing market is terrible and we are not giving up our low interest rate. You guys are doing great and no way are you lazy!! I think people are so conditioned to see things just one way that they cannot understand that not everyone fits into that mold they want to put everyone in, nor do they want to be.

CPS would be really busy if the had to go check every family who now lives off grid or in a "camper or tent" due to the housing crisis and inflation! The funny thing is the that if the people complaining were to search 4 to 6 generations back they would find ancestors who are living just like you minus the camp trailer lol!

20+ years off grid and you don't have to go without modern conveniences to live off grid. You just use alternative systems like solar and wind power and septic tanks, rain water collection or a well. No reason to be uncomfortable living off grid. I have most modern appliances, indoor plumbing, internet and phone and run a business online. I just don't have house payments and utility bills.

I follow your story out of interest. Not something I would choose to do or advise my kids to. Getting a good college education then starting on a career or own professional biz like law or medicine is what we were raised to do. When I was your age I was making retirement plans. I semi retired after 40, and fully retired at 50. I like that it gave me the time and flexibility to lead a more relaxed life, in my case that means being comfortable and not doing too much physical work. Not worrying about money or cutting back in my old age. If this is your dream, then go for it. We all thrive in different situations. For me defintely I need utlities, comforts especially after 40. No roughing it whether in day to day life or when travelling. Went camping once on the beach and did not enjoy it as there was only cold water available for showers. I was only 19 then😂 But living off grid suits some like you so go for it.

Do either or both your older kids want to live like this as adults too? Am asking because in 15 to 20 years time it might be too taxing for you. How long do you reckon it will take to build all you to plan to and earn an income from it?

Our house should be complete in 1-2 years and the goal is to be profitable next year. I do not expect my kids to take over - it is way too early for them to know that. But they definitely can if they want 😊 At some point everyone gets older and has to plan for lifestyle changes. We will evolve as needed. Maybe we will cut back. Maybe we will hire help. Maybe we will have our adult kids helping. Maybe we will rent out the property and live elsewhere. A benefit of living this lifestyle today is it helps keeps us active and healthy for longer into our life. We have more free time now, less stress, and a greater ability to save money for later.

It doesn’t matter what you or others do there will always be a small percentage of people who need to to disagree and the anonymity of the internet enables them to do this in fairly vile language and inferences. You personally are not blameworthy but simply a funnel through which they can vent.Personally I would like an exposure of people who attack others from the safety of their hidden identities,it would be interesting to see how many would be willing to express their opinionated views.

I agree with so many points! The $1000 emergency fund is not enough. Just because you build a good credit score doesn't mean you're intending to go deeply in debt. It means you manage available credit effectively. A reliable car that will keep your family safe is often well worth the payments. I'm also concerned about the constant push to set up a budget. For folks who are in serious financial struggle, a short term no spend can be an effective stepping stone to building a budget with confidence. Thanks for your channel!

I think you are doing great and your children will grow up well rounded and have skills to survive whatever that looks like in the future. The school system is so broken and yes kids are shuffled out to schools and day cares way to much and not having a good home balance Homeschooling is definitely the way to go in my opinion. I live in a large metropolitan city and the kids in my area are full of hate and anger its a vicious cycle. Anna In Ohio

Ultimately it is about what is comfortable to you taking into consideration your financial situation and lifestyle choices. I would never consider doing this even if I was financially strapped( which I am not) because I would prefer to just improve my financial situation by doing side hustles, starting a biz or getting a better job . However I respect that different folks may prefer options. So good luck to you.
