Thank you for the video. You described what I'm feeling better than I could have. I am a year post treatment, but with early stage high risk of recurrence. Been off and on with Verzenio, but having bad liver toxicity. Finally off it for two weeks and now stuggling with this overwhelming depression. Don't know how to ask for help or who to ask. I don't want to ask family and friends bc they have already done so much.

Thank you so much for your detailed explanation. I was just operated of Stage 0 DCIS and was told that they would have to operate age to clean the area better and then to finally have radiation. I am scared !

Thank you. I dont want radiation for my DCIS. Had lumpectomy, feel it will do more harm than good! Low risk. What is the most accurate way to detect recurrense..ultrasound,MRI or Mammogram? Do you think every six months would be good?

I HAVE A QUESTION PATIENTS ARE ASKED TO SIGN AN "INFORMED CONCENT" BEFORE RADIATION. WHY IS IT THAT A LARGE NUMBER OF RADIATION DOCTORS DO NOT EVEN MENTION RADIATION FIBROSIS? I HAVE FOUND FROM SPEAKING WITH MANY OTHER WOMAN THAT BREAST CONTRACTURE IS OFTEN PAINTED AS A GOOD THING THAT SHOULD MAKE YOUR BREAST LOOK MORE LIFTED AND FIRMER AND MORE YOUTHFUL, WITHOUT EVER MENTIONING THAT WOMEN WITH LARGE BREAST RUN THE RISK OF THE RADIATED BREAST SHRINKING GREATLY AND BECOMING NOT JUST FIRM BUT OUT AND OUT HARD. HOW CAN IT BE AN INFORMED CONCENT IF WOMEN ARE NOT INFORMED BEFORE RATIATION BEGINS THAT THESE THINGS ARE QUITE POSSILE AND THAT RADIATION FIBROSIS HAS NOT CURE. THEY DON'T METION HOW TERRIBLEY PAINFUL RADATION FIBROSIS IS. I WOULD EMPLORE YOU AND ALL OTHER RADIATION DOCTORS TO BE COMPLETELY HONEST AND TELL WOMEN. I WOULD NEVER HAVE CONCENTED TO RADIATION AND A BOOST IF I HAD KNOW THAT MY LEFT BREAST WOULD BE SHRUNKEN DOWN FROM THE SIZE OF A CANTALOP TO THE SIZE OF A PEACH AND LEFT AS HARD AS A RUBBER EREASER AND THAT I WOULD HAVE PAIN IN ALL OF THE LEFT SIDE OF MY RIB CAGE AND PECTORAL MUSCELES DUE TO RADIATION FIBROSIS. YOU CAN EVEN SEE THE FIBROSIS IN MY SCANS IT STANDS OUT CLEARLY BUT I , & MANY OTHERS I HAVE SPOKEN WITH HAD NEVER EVEN BEEN TOLD THAT SUCH A THING WAS EVEN A POSSIBILITY. LLUCKILY MANY OF THE WOMEN WHO WERE NOT INFORMED OF THE POSSIBILITY DID NOT DEVELOPE RADIATION FIBROSIS BUT THEY SHOULD STILL HAVE BEEN WARNED THAT IT WAS (HOW EVER REMOTE THE CHANCE WAS) THAT SOME PEOPLE DO DEVELOPE IT. HOW CAN IT BE AN INFORMED DECISION IF THES 2 VERY LIFE ALERING SIDE EFFECTS ARE NEVER EVEN DISCUSSED???? I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO KNOW THE ANSWER TO THAT

This video is so so helpful. Thank you so much! I was recently diagnosed with DCIS, low grade at age 33 and will be due for my radiation on my left breast. Would love to understand the implication on how radiation could potentially affect fertility. And how long after radiation does patient need to wait before trying to conceive? There are so many considerations and it's giving me so much unnecessary anxiety.

Thanks for this video as I'm trying to mentally prepare for radiation, which is an hour bus ride + taxi to Granada from the coastal Spanish town where I now live. Getting a lumpectomy with everything explained in Spanish was daunting enough, so this really helps. Thanks again.

I am feeling that way also. I am feeling very exhausted mentally and emotionally after going through immunotherapy treatment for colon cancer which went quite successful and am now cancer free. I want to get back to normal and back to my career which I enjoy very much. As a man going through my own experience, I very much empathise with the many women out there going through their own experiences as well which is not easy for them either.

I just finished 21 treatments and had to pause as my chest looks like lava flowing out of a volcano. I have a 2nd degree burn near my collarbone and have had a very painful week. My doctor is expecting me to finish my 4 treatments next week. There’s no way given all the open wounds and the spread of peeling. Hoping that won’t be problematic!

Please read "conspiracy of Hope." Mammograms are causing a lot of overtreatment for cancers that may never have caused a woman's death. They don't tell you the long-term effects of cancer treatment, including death. Yup. We were so glad to find out that my mother only needed radiation treatment for her breast cancer (which she found herself. The mammogram missed it.) No one told us you can die from radiation treatment. It caused another kind of cancer that my mother died from. Ask your doctor about angiosarcoma.

May I suggest Beekman 1802 pure soap during radiation. It’s pH balanced and the closest thing to our skin. That’s what I use every day for my sensitive skin and will be using Miaderm lotion for my breast during upcoming radiation treatment.

I have a question. I am long time exerciser-actually Jazzercise and walking/hiking (since my twenties and I am now 64) maybe Jazzercise and walking 5-6 days weekly and walking the remaining. I have just begun my radiation (have had a lumpectomy). Final diagnosis DCIS with some microinvasion but good margins. Will be having 5 radiation treatments in all-over 5 wks. I have long used 5lb weights -usually 1-3 routines in a 30-40 minute jazzercise workout-I never increase as I have some hand issues. I am wondering if I can continue with the hand weights or perhaps I should just do the same upper body exercise without the weights or just concentrate on my lower body? Also, I have been doing a good bit of low impact Jazzercise since my surgery and probably will stick to that until radiation is complete, or I may walk more and do some stretch and easy strength Jazzercise work during treatment. It is easy to lose flexibility and strength at my age so I am trying to determine the sweet spot to maintain but not adversely impact the radiation treatment. Thoughts?

I found radiation awful and it left my breast area, shoulder, arm and under arm weak and painful. Or was it the lumpectomy? From tumour testing my tumour was low grade and indolent. I wish I skipped radiation. Nobody offered me options. Also the radiation givers have terrible people skills. It was just so awful everyday dealing with disorganised people who made it clear they did not know or care about my experience. I hope it’s better than my experience with the Epworth cancer factory in Melbourne.

Thank you for the good information. However, as of October 2023, most of the links to the recommended products are not working. The Makermerry bras link is a dead end. The Miaderm radiation relief cream in not available on the Amazon link. And the cheapest Dove soap bar option on Amazon is $28. Umm no.

I was diagnosed with DCIS in August. I will have my appointment with the surgeon this Friday. I was told that she might recommend freezing to remove it, but I haven't seen any information on that method. What do you think? Mine they told me s is a stage 0. My family wants it surgically removed. That is what I think I will ask for.
