Was on this in 1989 for my first ever fishing trip at 18 yrs old -- what a way to start. Ha!

I can still remember what this vessel looked liked when it was purchased by Paul and it was just a hull. He hired the best boat builder to put this beauty all together. Reminds me a bit of his former boat the MONTE CARLO out of 22nd st landing. Always nice to run into Paul when he’s on his walks in the marina. Love this boat

Sometimes I use a large cross lock $$$ swivel up top … then use a 3 foot section of 150/200# mono with a solid ring and a 300#+- split ring on the bottom attached to my jig … Sometime I just crimp on a $$ Swivel onto my wind on leader (100-130-150-200#) and just attach that cross lock swivel onto the split ring with assist hook attached to my jig… I’m beginning to like using a 5/0 3x-4x treble on the bottom of my 400#-500# jigs … I use either an Owner that he’s using or a Mustad Lock Jaw treble … I’ve been using the same Owner treble hooks but only a 2/0-3/0-4/0’s on my smaller jigs Your hook ration goes up I believe … and if you stitch their mouths shut they can’t get as much oxygen.

This boat is about as nice as skid row motel. terrible customer service , terrible food , fuel surcharges just to drive in circles , not even trolling , for 2 days . The toilets were plugged from the last trip overflowing crap and toilet paper on to the deck to be left there. I had to help with the deck hand duties. Capt? This apple few far from the tree. Why would you go south when the bite is now north? To pocket the fuel surcharge ? One shining star: JOSH! .This deck hand worked hard and with little help from the crew. Great attitude. Very talented. Find a better boat and capt Josh. Thank you and you ONLY. Mandoman.

Those small hooks you trashed work good on the smaller slow pitch rockfish jigs … I do use the Owner Monsters or the Mustad assist hooks in the 7/0, 9/0, 11/0, and 14/0’s … Lately I’ve been making my own assist hooks using 500# hollow core cord doubled with a 7x7 seven strand wire doubled as well … I’m using the Owner 6.5 and 7.5 (450#) solid rings … if you can find the Owner Monster with the shorter cord lengths … I like them … one thing great about the Owner Monsters is they have that clear protective sleeve over the cord…

I fished the Searcher on a 3-day years ago. The tackle storage is not good. You need to see that area when it's full of boxes and people trying to work. Skipper works hard but not a warm a fuzzy type. I would fish her again on trips 3-day or shorter.

I would only open and use the split ring one time. And only if you can’t solder your own rings.
@jupitergolfandre3 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike. Thge beauty of this setup is that if the split ring fails (and the owners haven't ever for me) max loss is the jig.. The fish would still be hooked to the line. Split rings also make for quick change on the jigs without having to re tie your line every time..saving time and leader length

In my experience, 60 to 80# Fluorocarbon gets me many more strikes but the downside is that instead of Tuna, I get Wahoo and/or king mackerel and they will slice my leader like a hot knife through butter. I've lost many $20 lures in the Caribbean. Results with steel leaders aren't as good. What say you?
