Hi Andy im just curious about something. If the belted squat adds strength to the beltless squad would this be the same for the deadlift? Kind regards Michael

On my second distal rupture. between insurance and Cleveland Clinic I'm at 6 weeks between injury and repair on the first, and a little longer on the second. So frustrating to wait so long for answers and action. I was coming from contest prep, so I'll have been a full year and a half away from upper body by the time I can lift again. First repair went great, but still very concerned about how long they are making me wait AGAIN. thank goodness i have such a great surgeon.

Gonna start the new version of this program For bench press day the second movement says either db incline press or machine press Can I simply do barbell incline for the lift after the main bench press ?
@user-xh3lb1ov3t16 күн бұрын
I don't understand your progams you couldn't surely recover from squats or say deadlifts it would make ur lower back so sore and weak please explain
@user-xh3lb1ov3t16 күн бұрын
Does not make sense to deadlift bench squat multiple times a week how for instance could your lower back recover makes no sense explain please
@user-xh3lb1ov3t16 күн бұрын
Why do you think its ok to squat deadlift bench multiple times a week? To me it doesn't make sense being you aren't giving ur musles enough time to recover ...i just don't understand. Deadlift more than once a week and your lower back will be in pieces
@user-xh3lb1ov3t17 күн бұрын
Yiu aren't giving your body any rest how can you possibly do such high volume of dealifts over a week and perfume at your best if your lower back has no time to recover please explain
@user-xh3lb1ov3t17 күн бұрын
I know Andy is an education but how can you squat so often...i used to my knees were always sore how can you deadlift so many times and be ready for a heavy workout as your lower back will be in pieces. Steroids probably to recover so quickly. Doesn't make sense you aren't giving your body the rest it needs 4days a work and volume? Volume isnt necessary to build muscle intensity is... please explain?
@andybaker241317 күн бұрын
Volume/Frequency and Intensity are inversely related. So long as per session volume is not extreme and absolute or relative intensity is not too high then frequency can easily be at 2-3x/week per lift and strength progress will be good. The more you dial up the intensity the more you have to dial back the volume and/or frequency. Most beginner and early intermediate programming should be higher frequency IMO, but even many moderan day advanced powerlifters have extremely high squat and deadlift frequencies. At the advanced level you just have to find what works for you. More intensity with less volume/frequency - more Ed Coan style......or more volume/frequency more Mike T. style.
@user-xh3lb1ov3t16 күн бұрын
@@andybaker2413 I guess the way I see it volume/ frequency and less intensity doesn't mean much it isn't building muscle where as intensity total failure is all that is needed to build your body I've never understood why volume builds bodies it's intensity that's needed to that way you need 4 to 5 days to fully recover and then go again when fully recovered. Anyway I'm open to the suggestion that I can learn so on volume increased frequency do you goto failure?

Thanks for this. I'm 60 and tore my left one picking up a longboard surfboard on Waikiki Beach (on day one of vacation of course). I'm two days post surgery and feeling frustrated by not being able to do much for while (and the long road of recovery ahead), but your video has definitely encouraged me a lot. Thanks again. I hope to return to the same surfing spot someday for a "do over."

Very sensible approach. I’m getting good at a few specific exercises and I need to start changing up or alternating workouts- still do the heavyweight dips, but not every bench day. 😂

Distal bicep tear (complete) left arm back in Mar (2024); repair surgery a little over two weeks later. Cast, then brace (each for a few weeks). I have a few more months until near complete recovery; however, I have full range of motion now and some strength back. What help significantly, was working on my range of motion soon after the surgery. I did not take any pain medicine (post-surgery)…it subsided after about a week. I participate in physical therapy once a week. Both the [excellent] orthopedic surgeon and [excellent] physical therapist are kind of amazed at my progress. To everyone experiencing this, please keep a positive mental attitude…you can overcome it and get back to your normal life. The same mental strength helped me back in 1986 when I almost lost my leg…I was able to complete the remaining 12 years of a 20 year career in the U.S. Army. Good luck to all, God bless, and a huge thank you to the doctors and staff at the James Haley VA Hospital in Tampa, Florida!

Something I was using recently was an Upper - Lower - Full split. I thought it worked very well. Especially for an older guy at 54. Same principal I suppose, just more condensed and a little less volume per body part during the week. But Id say it averages out over a 2 week span... Just started reading Barbell Prescription, which I'll be using to navigate my program very soon. Thank you Andy.

I had to fight with the va to get the surgery. 6 weeks I was very descriptive and explained I needed an MRI and no one believed me. They tried to get me to go to physical therapy first and I refused but the nurse wrote in my chart that I agreed with that plan. I had to use private insurance.

Would using your 852 progression on the first lift be appropriate here? And would you still stand by this upper lower routine?

I recently underwent bicep tendon surgery at the VA, and it was quite a different approach! Instead of a cast, they just put it in a sling for a couple of days. They encouraged me to move my arm freely, with some restrictions for the first month. After three months, I should be able to lift anything I want. The procedure involved two incisions, one in the forearm and another to reach the end of the bicep tendon. They needed the second incision because they couldn't reach the end of my biceps from the initial one, according to the doctor. It's not always necessary, but in my case, it was.

I tore my left and I'm 2 weeks post op. I'm seeing a lot of comments of people saying they're on their 2nd tear on the other arm. Do I have that to look forward to if I start working out again? Is there an underlying issue that I can address to avoid that?

My main goal is getting back on the Golf Course and being as active as I was pre injury. If you have any further advice it will be appreciated. Have a great day and good luck in your endeavors. It's a long recovery mate - the first 6 weeks immobilisation is awful. I just hit 12 weeks post-surgery and have full supination/pronation back finally (pronation took much longer). After the first two weeks of doing nothing I started going back to the gym (wearing the sling) just to do *something* with the other arm and leg presses etc. I then did super light free weights work (1-2kg) with the injured arm from weeks 6-12, still massive muscle wastage. Apparently can taper the weight back up gradually now for the next 12 weeks. They say 6-12 months for 'full' recovery, I'm aiming for 6... Good luck with your recovery!

@tchpandy iam three weeks post op. I live in the uk. I am starting physiotherapy on Monday. How long does this pain and numbness last in the arm
@tchpandy2 ай бұрын
@@Peter-sl6mf Hey mate, I'd say 'it depends' as everyone will be different. I only had very mild numbness in the top of the forearm, and this only lasted about 8 weeks. Most of my pain was gone at 3 months, occasionally it'd have some mild discomfort. Good luck getting started with physio (probably just assisted range of motion at this stage but it's important to get everything moving in a controlled manner) and your ongoing recovery!

@@tchpandy thank you for getting back to me Pandy. I was on a real downer last Thursday I don't do depression but I was down with it for two days. Quadruple heart bypass surgery last year off work for 7 months just getting back on my feet financially then 6 weeks ago slipped off the truck and snapped the tendon. Yes good to hear the numbness and pain will end in another 4 weeks. Are you glad you had the repair. Reading some other comments from patients they are doing OK. My consultant said I didn't need it. I could function.with.20% loss of power in my arm. Iam 62 a truck driver. The consultant said I could go straight back to work. But my social outlet is the 🏋️♂️ gym. Once again thank you for responding

@@Peter-sl6mfHi again mate, yes the mental side of it really knocked me around and ruined X-Mas/New Years/January/February. I am glad I had the surgery but it has been a very long 6 months. I am waiting for clearance for a full return to sport (indoor cricket) on Tuesday. I also wasn't allowed to drive for the initial 6 weeks as it had to stay in the splint/sling, perhaps rehab protocols treat this one differently in the UK? Anyway, there'll be small improvements for you each day, even though some days it'll give you aches/pains. Hang in there! -Andy
