I think it’s not just duality of man but how war transforms men to animals and following the same order the duality of “animal” animal mother is the best example when joker walks in to see cowboy again it’s like a new gorilla entering troop (yes a group of gorillas is called a troop funnily enough) with the one upping and threatening vibe going around then they show animal mother having relations with the lady who think 8 ball is umm for lack of a better term “too beacoup” an animal can be distilled into these two things sex and violence often called primitive urges.

With gladiator 2 coming out, obviously this movie needs more awesome content like this. If you watch the dvd with written commentary on the bottom, there’s this bittersweet but awesome (fitting) story about how the actor who played the guy who thought Maximus died, and he was supposed to play a bigger role, but he died during filming, the movie did an amazing job working with the footage they had, and that’s why the black friend was added in.

its not the Drug but the individual. The "addictive personality" is real any one vice can lead to a demise: food, alcohol, drugs, BODY IMAGE (sara's case), Memories (also sara's case). Plenty of people keep room's exactly the same after someone's death, and we all know its unhealthy.

As a huge WWII history buff, seeing this was a no-brainer. However, it immediately became one of my all-time favorites, not only as a historical film, but as a deep, thought-provoking experience. It's as much a film about man's search for some semblance of meaning in this chaotic thing called life as it is a war movie. It details how different men look for it in different places, and what better way to display that than a war where a bunch of different men from different backgrounds and walks of life have congregated together to achieve a common goal. Some, like Witt, turn to spirituality, and because of it exude an almost other-worldly presence. Others try to find it in order such as what one might find in the military or in other things such as love. By the end of the film, however, we see that the only one whose faith has really held true was Witt's. Military order failed the men almost immediately when it became clear it could not save them from the bullets and artillery, in fact it was even the driving force that was sending them into the meatgrinder to begin with. Faith in a single man, such as how the men respected Captain Staros, only lasted until he was screwed over by command and sent back to the states. The sole thing that seemed to be getting Private Bell through the chaos, his love for his wife, faltered too. The only character who retained a consistent cool-headedness throughout the film was Witt. That's my take anyways.

I remember being rocked by Saving Private Ryan, and I still enjoy watching it from time to time. When I first saw Thin Red Line, it was inevitable that I would compare it to Ryan, and being a slower movie with fewer action scenes, I walked away thinking it was "good, but not great". After watching Thin Red Line a few years later, (and being a bit more reflective), I realized it is the superior story. While Ryan relies mostly on spectacle and the single story line, Thin Red Line combines a few threads together into one larger narrative. Ryan is about saving one person because the Army told them to, while Thin Red Line is a number of individuals trying to save themselves from the Army. I love both movies, and will watch them when I need whatever they each give.

I watched this movie for the second time recently, the first been in 1993 at the movies. It took all of those years to feel anywhere near comfortable to do so. I enjoyed it more the second time. The horror & vilence sort of stuns you the first time & i missed a lot of things (or just forgot) from the first time. Can anyone explain to me why a fair few people nominate Saving Private Ryan as a similar sad movie?? It was violent, yes. The scene when the priest arrives at her house, sad, Yes but compare it with the psychological trauma of Schindlers list, i am absolutely stunned. Saving Private Ryan is one of my faves but i could not give it more than 8/10. That what makes Schindlers list so sad, it wasn't fictional, it actually happened & only around 80 years not even a century. Is the next Hitler around the corner?

I found other actors were under-appreciated here too. Miranda Otto’s beautiful portrayal won her a place in Peter Jackson’s LOTR masterpiece on, and so were Sean Penn, John Travolta and Adrien Brody. Shame that Jim Caviezel was ignored however.

Whenever I'm watching paranormal activity movies especially four or ghost deminsion I'm like these could be basically prequels to Halloween he was a regular kid but like the kids in paranormal activity movie he's targeted by evil calling itself Toby wanting to be his friend have fun with him bad influence on him making him do bad stuff distancing himself from his family especially his sister and in four the kid does this especially to his sister cause in the end he's supposed to sacrifice her for Toby which is basically what Michael did obviously change some things but could lead right into Halloween if you read the Halloween novelization this is basically the case lol

I find that the true villains are the ultra wealthy, just like in real life. They want all of us to be cogs in the machine - simple units filling out their 9-to-5 roles while enriching the exceptional few. Superheroes in this case represent power outside of the system, which is something those who have manipulated the system cannot control. The ultra wealthy thrive on convincing everyone to conform and never try to be exceptional, so that they can continue being rich in the shadows.

I like where you’re going but ultimately I think this is wrong. Like sevensolaris pointed out, joker doesn’t hesitate, his weapon malfunctions. I believe apocalypse now has a much better exploration of the duality of man, exemplified when Kurtz talks about the VC who cut the inoculated children’s arms off saying “these were not monsters, these were men with families, men who are full of love, who simply possessed the strength to kill without passion, without compassion, without judgment.” And the gal at the French compound tells Willard something to the effect of him being two men, one who loves and one who kills
