pretty sure I have bees in my bedroom walls. they came in thru an outlet with no cover or appliance on it. the outlet is over 2 stories in the air. would you think a thermal imaging camera might work to tell me (from the inside) where they are and the extent to which they've made it home? I doubt I can afford to hire someone. what does it typically cost (ballpark). I'm 70 - hubby is 74. he thinks we should just kill them. he doesn't really want to, so your argument against that was helpful. I used to have bees but they swarmed. I still have all the equipment.
@betterbee19798 күн бұрын
Hi there! An infrared camera will certainly show the heat map of where the bees are inside your wall. Also, many beekeepers do wall cutouts "for free," but will leave your home in need of repair (e.g. if they cut a huge hole out of your drywall to get the bees out, you'll have to replace that out of your own pocket). You can use our swarm catcher list to find someone nearby to contact about it: www.betterbee.com/swarm-catchers/

@@betterbee1979 none in our area. so looks like it's up to me. I'd have to repair the damage anyway, so that part didn't bother me. but I'd like to keep the bees, and most swarm catchers do it for the bees.

Unfortunately, our beekeeping team is so on top of things that they pinch any queens showing nastier genetics than this! This was the meanest of what was available to us for this quick test. I've worked plenty of Africanized hives before, and I guarantee I would have gotten more stings from them. But for a hive with a tolerable temperament, I was surprised at how much protection this jacket offered. (You'll notice that I get less tense as the video continues. I wasn't sure how many stings I was signing up for at the start of the filming!)

Hahaha, that's not an aggressive hive. Come to AZ and work an Africanized hive.

We're lucky to not have Africanized bees up here! Kudos for putting up with that.

why no smoke?
@betterbee197912 күн бұрын
Hi Billy, this was a product test during which we WANTED the bees to get irritated with us, to test how our new jacket performs when it comes to stings. We use smoke every other time we open a hive!

Its better to dip your mold in water with a few drops of dish soap in it before applying the wax, I have found a ladel is the best tool, I just half fill my ladel and pour a little wax so it runs to 1/5th of the length and then slowly lay the top down, this will push the wax along the mold and with very little overspill, because you have wet the mold with soapy water this acts as a release agent and the sheet will be able to be removed with zero tearout.If it does tear out you are applying too much wax. Another good technique to remove the wax is to lift the silicone edge and roll it underneath itself and then holding both sides push it forward so the roll extends, the wax will release as you push the mold forward.

better bee, if you can not find cream honey to add to the process how do you achieve the end results of cream honey?
@betterbee1979Ай бұрын
Hi Carl! We sell creamed honey that you can use as a starter: www.betterbee.com/creamed-honey/ch1-16-oz-creamed-honey.asp Or you can grind up your own crystallized honey with a mortar and pestle until the consistency is smooth, and use that as your starter. Good luck!
@carldaniels4827Ай бұрын
@@betterbee1979 grinding until a smooth texture will take time and friction. With this consideration will temperature control need to bee used; ie. 50° 60° or room temperature 70°ish?

Only 92 other people liked this video with a thumbs up, I find it very interesting Mr Seeley, I hope to keep up the work of people in this society learning from the good diversity of the many bees. They (the bees) are more advanced than humans and we have a lot to learn about and from them, right?
