Chalk is chalk. I’m sure it’s great. I’ve been using master my whole life playing pool. I buy a brick of it and that brick lasts forever. I have a grinder that sands the chalk down when it gets too deep or out of shape. It goes in a square housing and a disc with a handle goes into place and just turn until it’s back to its original divot. The dust is collected in a tray below. I cut away the paper left with a razor and it’s as good as new until it’s too thin. I tape the cube with scotch tape and one piece will last quite a while. I’ve bought some Russian magic that I like as well. I just don’t see paying 20 bucks for one piece of chalk when I make a brick last years.

You're not alone. There is a very strong division between opinions on whether you can/can't justify $20 for one piece of chalk when decent tournament-proven chalks like Master exist for 0.50c. 100% down to personal opinion on this one 👍

Hi Joe, here's another "review" :) Been playing pool with this chalk for the past 14 months now I play on average about 15 hours each week. And I chalk after every shot. And when I'm thinking a hard shot, I chalk up even more. That being said. One cube has last me a whole 12 months. Where I'm from it's €20 + €5 shipping. That's about 3 beers and a pack of smokes. That's value for my "euro" :) it is incredible how clean it is. My wooden shaft looks brand new! But I also clean and sand it every 2 weeks or 30 hours of play. No chalk on my hands, glove, case. I can easily put it in my case pocket without a cap and it will leave some marks but nothing that can't be instantly cleaned with a wet-wipe. Nothing on my tip protectors or ferule. Nothing on the table. And we're playing on Simonis blue and gray. Small marks on masse and jump shots, but they clean super easy with a brush. it holds on the tip. Kamui leather for the play cue. Taom phenolic break tip. Hybrid tip for the jump cue. It just sticks on everyone. The taom Pyro on the other harnd, has troubles sticking to a Taom phenolic tip :) Maybe you should test the chalks on non leather tips also?

I changed to Taom a few years ago as a snooker player. I’m using v10 atm but I honestly cannot say it’s better or worse than v2.0 so if you want blue chalk, go for Pyro and you won’t miss anything. I changed because it’s not messy (doesn’t get into the grain of my cue so much) and it lasts for ages. I play 3-4 times a week. I chalk between every shot. 3 sessions are solo practice and I get through less than 2 blocks a year! I would throw Master chalk away after a few weeks because I only liked new blocks.

After having my cue re-shafted with a I-Pro slim shaft and navigator pro max tip I switched from 1080 chalk to the V10 and love it. it's clean unlike the 1080 and hooks up great. yes it less forgiving then the 1080 but a 13mm tip is less forgiving then a 12. If your hits are right you'll love the V10 too.

Yes, agree 100%! That's what we should have been seeing, but didn't! Maybe the striking of the cue ball disperses the chalk further and into finer powder than when we noted the tip tap. But we were not seeing the same thing from striking the cue ball during testing. As odd as though that may sound! 👍

It's better but I stopped using it. Masters is free and I don't care if I lose it. Plus, I chalk every shot and rarely ever miscue unless it's my fault anyway. But I can easily go 4 shots without chalking if I want to with Masters, but I don't. In other words, Taom doesn't change my game at all.

I've used the same block of masters chalk for 3 years not even half way through yet. But agree if i lose it who cares, $6 for 12. I would only use Taom on my own table, or someones personal table. If i'm out and about on public equipment masters all the way. Don't understand the it grips the ball better hype, it's chalk. Most of the time at a bar or somewhere i don't ever chalk and i never miscue unless playing extreme English. Yall need to fix your stroke, if you talking about miscues

@@mattevans1643 - Yep. I rarely mscue with Masters. It's great for public tables. I bought premium chalk and a chalk holder and it got on my nerves as I would lose my chalk when I bent over the table on reach shots. My chalk holder and premium chalk now sits in the closet.

Hey there! You can make them quite simply by cutting small squares from an old piece of cloth. They are great for practicing jump and break shots whilst protecting the cloth. You can probably buy seomthing similar, but a bit of offcut from either your old cloth, or some scrap left over from your new cloth will work just fine! For me I can justify the price because it seems to last so much longer than master chalk or anything else I’ve used. I got a new V10 about 2 months ago and I play every day. The chalk has barely even started to make a divot I could see it lasting a year or more at this rate.

Not true. I does leave a bit of residue on the table. Not on the balls but on the table. Also none on your hands. But the residue left on the table is pretty easy to clean. But all said i love this chalk. I feel it is better. It definitely last longer on the tip. But you should chalk before every shot. A lot don't knot this but it has sticker rings that can be peel off as you use it down. It is a great product. The cost though is unreasonable. Therefore in pool halls it stays very near me at all times. LOL Great product cost high easy to clean off the cloth. This is from a USER of the product.

When the chalk comes off the tip were does it go. As a table fitter and a player of over 20 years experience I can tell you. It goes on to the cloth and eventually under the cloth onto the slate. Don't ask me why we can't see it on the cloth as I don't know but it definitely ends up piling up under the cloth. Still cleaner than any other chalk tho.

A fairly good review but i think it is lacking some things, how long does the chalk cube last? Because out of experience i know it last about 2,5 times as long as a predator 1080 cube (used this before i used the V10) that makes the predator more expensive or de V10 cheaper. Also you can hit the white ball far more to the side (or top of bottom) without actually miscue. Also a small negative (which you actually noticed with the jump-shots) i play 3 different types of pool (9 foot, 6 foot and english pool) en it tends to be more accurate on thinner cuetips and smaller tables, the power seems to be absorbed minimally (probably because the first layer is somewhat thicker and pulling the finesse out of my multi layered cuetip by sealing it making the leather less "flexible") @AverageJoesPool

One of the reasons I've avoided using Taom V10 is the shape, round chalk feels odd in my hand and rolls like crazy if you drop it. Currently using Pagulayan chalk as it's made by Taom to Alex Pagulayan's specifications and comes in a traditional square cube.
@AverageJoesPool
@AverageJoesPool 6 ай бұрын
Yes, it's a very valid point that some shapes are easier to hold than others. That said, the slippiest chalk we had for holding was actually a cube which had a high gloss paper on it (review coming soon!) That was a nightmare to hold on to! It would be nice if all manufacturers used a textured paper on the sides to help with grip. --- To help support us (for both you and others reading this) there are a few things you can do: 1) Please be sure to use our Amazon links in the Video Description! 2) Please Like our video's on KZfaq (by clicking Like!) 3) Please ensure you subscribe to our KZfaq channel! 4) Donations both needed and welcome! Since I see 90% of the pros still using Master Chalk, I'll just stick with it?! It just seems to be extremely over price for what it is and the pros know it. Just chalk enough so you're not having to use miscuing on it, and not the fact you hit it poorly.

Yes, opinion is very divided on the new (and more expensive) super-clean chalks. You are absolutely right, pro players have been using Master for decades, and some still continue to do so. There are many people out there who, like yourself, simply will not pay $20 for one piece of chalk when Master exists for .50c. Whilst others that swear by chalks like the V10 and see the value in the benefits. Horses for courses as the old saying goes 👍

Look at films of the 90's pool players running racks without any problem with Master's chalk. I don't think most people will ever get good enough to beat prime Earl, Efren, Archer, etc. I think the tip...Moori, Kamui, and those premium tips make a very noticable difference. Carbon shafts....a very slight difference depending on the player. Premium chalk...I just can't justify either the price or the inconvenience of it. I'm sure many will disagree, but it won't help my game in my opinion.

@@JKinLVN shaft is definitely a factor. Anyone can win with any shaft, but once you become accustomed to the nuances, you can't just change shafts. People that don't like carbon fiber shafts are just people that can't play with them. I loved my Vikore shaft, absolutely my favorite wood shaft. But over the years it got a little warped and it's got a few dings in it. I now use Carbon fiber, because i don't want to deal with the consequences of wood. I have a shaft that is pretty much for life unless i mess it up, not just because of natural properties of wood. As for chalk, good old masters. No need for expensive stuff, it's just chalk. I play on public equipment so i don't care about the residue. But if i had my own table or a friend had a table i would probably use Taom purely for that.
