Anybody thinking they can teach themselves to fly auto-gyros; DON'T DO IT. Get instruction. They are easy to fly and easy to crash and the accident statistics are truly awful. There are things you must never do but you have to be taught what not to do.

That's weird. Your stick shake looked more like 2/rev than 1/rev. Must have been some weird kind of resonance being created by the prerotator. Prerotators are unnecessary weight in a single seater. Mind you, with the longer masts favoured in Oz, maybe not.

It looks like an ultra light Mosquito Air. If it is it's got a two stroke engine....not the most reliable engine....and a range of about 60 miles.

One of the safest air vehicles ever made. Their performance is amazing. The rotor is not powered. Forward flight makes it spin. Super stable platform.

I had a good friend who was a stunt pilot. He bought a gyrocopter. I pleaded with him to get rid of it. They found the gyrocopter and his body 1/2 mile short of the runway, about a mile from our house. Shalom/gw

@@jameswalker590 The propeller up top is powered by the air current and not the engine, and acts like a wing. So even if something happens to the engine or propeller in the back it can still glide. Apparently though (second hand information) they work differently than an actual aircraft in control and can crash if you nose dive too hard. The reason being that due to the physics of how it works it can slow down or stop the blades from spinning, which means you no longer have lift and you'll drop like a stone. If he was short of the runway then perhaps he came in at a bad angle like that.

There can be numerous reasons but the most obvious one is the lack of experience and poor pilot training. A gyro is a very easy to fly craft but it does not mean you should not learn from an instructor. In all other aspects it is true to be one of the safiest aircrafts.
