This is not Sarma. Sarma is a Serbian word meaning stuffed cabbage or cabbage rolls. Serbians do not make grape leaves whether meatless or with meat. I am sure Syrians from Aleppo who might be vegetarian would not refer to meatless grape leaves as Sarma. You are incorrect. Meatless grape leaves in Arabic are not called Sarma.
@mariaslittlekitchen2527 Жыл бұрын
Interesting. Sarma in Turkish means wrapped, that is where the name comes. We also make stuffed cabbage rolls and we call it cabbage sarma. The meatless version is called “yalanci sarma” which translates from Turkish into “ fake or lier sarma” which refers to it not having meat. Happy to learn that it is originally a serbian word, Thank you.

Maria we don’t eat meat. A question was asked about making a vegetarian or vegan stuffing but the “read more” is NOT opening. So it’s 2 onions, 1 and a half cooked chickpeas, 1/4 cup tahini, olive oil and sumac. Is there anything else? I would love to try the vegan version. Thank you for sharing 👏😍
@mariaslittlekitchen25273 жыл бұрын
I have another video on my channel called Armenian vegan tahini gololag , it is exactly same as this recipe except the filling is vegan. I listed 2 types of fillings both vegan and a delicious sauce that goes great with it . If you can’t find it, i will gladly write it down for you here.

Wow Maria! Thanks so much for fulfilling my request so soon!!! I do not have the falafel utensil, can I use my hands tomake balls? I'll tey over the wknd.
@mariaslittlekitchen25273 жыл бұрын
You are welcome Syl, yes you can form it with your hand , just put less water and a little flour for the falafels to hold up in your hand , hope you like it . Let me know how it turns out 🌹👩🍳

@@mariaslittlekitchen2527 Maria, should I add the flour to the food processor? How much flour should I add? Will I sprinkle the sesame seeds on top? Do I need to make the hole in the center or omit? Thanks.
@mariaslittlekitchen25273 жыл бұрын
Add the 1 tbsp. flour with the spices . With your hand sprinkle some sesame seeds on top and drop in the oil . You don’t have to do the hole in the middle , just don’t make your balls big , 1inch balls are perfect , or you can flatten the ball with no hole , as you like it dear . I would refregerate the mixture after adding spices for 30min minimum to cool , they will form better in your hands. Good luck
