Did you buy this one or grow it from a smaller tree? The trunk is beautiful and the dead wood gives it a great aged look!! Beautiful.

Thanks Jared, i bought this tree in September 2018, it had one branch on the right and it has took just over 6 years to get it this far, ;)

Great Larch forest Ryan, I love it looking very authentic I think it is the best one I have seen for a long time,hope you caught the little blighters in time. Larch are my favourite species I tend to pull the extensions rather than cut when I can, I have over the last weeks worked on my massive larch which I challenged Harry Harrington to create the structure some years ago then it was up to me to continue it on it’s journey into bonsai which it now is, just needs a nice big pot next year, due to my age I can’t lift it so have to get my son to move it. Have you heard of Dan Robinson an old bonsai expert, I watched a tour video of his amazing bonsai all very old and gnarly, some are over a thousand years old, he says he never repots his tress which surprised me, definitely worth a look-were he explains his philosophy. Al, the best mate.

Bloody vine weevils have devastated a few of my trees this year. Those horrible white grubs that eat the roots and then turn into the nasty little brown/grey beetles. I would check for grubs in the soil, even after using vin weevil killer. Great forest Ryan.
@sylviahardy45683 күн бұрын
Serious question re Vine Weevil: What treatment do you find best for bonsai? (I use Nematodes in August every year, for the garden, both ground and pots, which works well. However, they die off quickly if the soil dries, so likely aren't the best option as a preventative measure for bonsai in hot weather.) Any advise welcome. Thank you. Lovely Larch group 💚
@houghtonbonsai3 күн бұрын
Hi Sylvia and Thanks, i find the best treatment is Provado Vine Weevil Killer that is the best for me, 2nd is the bug clear i like this as well if i don't have the Provado. best time to treat is mid July then again on mid August ;)
