In this video i will be repotting my two field maple bonsai trees (Acer campestre), ;)
Acer campestre, known as the field maple, is a flowering plant species in the family Sapindaceae. It is native to much of continental Europe, Britain, southwest Asia from Turkey to the Caucasus, and north Africa in the Atlas Mountains. It has been widely planted, and is introduced outside its native range in Europe and areas of USA and Western Australia with suitable climate.

That first maple reminded me of the old western from 1959 called The Hanging Tree with Cary Cooper. The tree almost looks like it with the limb sticking out.

Nice looking little trees Ryan. I was surprised that there wasn’t more root growth in those small pots after a few years. The maples I grow (Native Red, Norway, and Sugar) fill larger pots in one year. Thanks, keep growing

Nice and easy soil mix. Just a thought, can you use your drill with a paint mixer bit? Might help to help you mix it. I use a 2 gallon bucket with a lid and roll it like a cement mixer or just a trowel to mix. But, our good Ol’ hands are the best. Forming the ball is a great idea.

Good to get your teeth into a bit of simple repotting field maples Ryan, nice shaped trees, I have a very large field maple in the front garden which chucks seeds all over place so no problem getting free trees. I do have 4 large really nice fields which I am pleased to own, they are so easy to work with. The second tree has more going for it I think, got the makings of a nice tree. When do you start feeding ? All the best Ryan.

@@houghtonbonsai not sure what happened there, yep there was no money for dentists when I was a lad if you had tooth ache you had to grin and bare it or it would be pulled out simple as that. We made sure our kids had good dental hygiene growing up.

Lovely job, the 2 field maples i collected the buds are swelling so looki g good that they have survived. When is best time to air layer field maples

Cheers Raymond, i usually do my air layers when the first flush of leaves have hardened off but you could maybe do it a bit earlier ;)

i like the character in that first Campestre but the roots on that second one is coming along nice ! do you think WD40 will refresh my plastic bonsai pots?
