I’m using hdri as backgrond and Nishita sky texture to light the scene (is Camera Ray). But a car on my scene doesn’t have windshield reflections of the clouds, but if I disable Camera Ray, I can have nice reflections of the sky but then the hdri and sky texture are mixing together. I want the pure hdri as background with reflections. Any tips?

My first thought to accomplish that would be to use the Is Transmission Ray socket rather than Is Camera Ray to mix the two.

Maybe just a slight correction: the source object doesn't necessarily have to PRIMARY selection, but ACTIVE selection (that's how Blender names it). If it's the last object you selected or if you add more objects via box selection, it will remain active and thus the source of modifier :) Anyway, great tip!

Yes, I used a descriptive term instead of it's name 🤷♂ I think it still gets the point across. I often have to decide what things really need correction when editing and what's good enough.

Any idea why I wouldn't have the "Copy to selected" option? I know I've used this before. I think it has something to do with the type of object I'm trying to apply it to but I can't remember how to fix it. I import an SVG, convert each object from that into meshes, and add a Solidify modifier to one of them. I want to copy that modifier to all the other objects, but the "Copy to selected" option isn't available...

OMG. The Ctrl-L -> Modifiers thing worked like a charm though. I am SO HAPPY. I'd still love to understand my original question if you happen to know why, but my immediate problem is solved. Thank you!
@BlenderForge4 ай бұрын
The first thing I would check is perhaps one of the objects is an instance of another object. I have run into odd things like that. Another thing would be the type of object like you said. Curves cannot accept all the modifiers that a mesh can, and empties can use even less of them.

This was a pretty helpful tutorial, I wanted to try this to make gifs of my models to post. I have a question, though. I'm planning on making gifs of my models that spin from side to side (just like your model in the video), and then spinning forward to show the top and bottom. How do I make a slow buildup at the beginning of the animation and a slowdown at the end of it?
@BlenderForge5 ай бұрын
Hi, I'm happy it's helped! To change the speed ramp you will need to open the graph editor, select the key frame where the speed should change, and move it's corresponding point in the graph editor up or down. You will want to uncheck any axis you do not want affected in the left column of the graph editor so that you are not inadvertently adjusting them and creating a wobbly rotation. When we hit T to change the animation's interpolation to linier it was changing the curve in the graph editor without actually opening the editor. I hope this is clear enough.
@BlenderForge5 ай бұрын
A slightly less complicated way, but with less control is to not change the interpolation to linier and use besier or one of the other easing presents in the T menu. Make sure all key frames are selected when doing so.

I made a black hole and trying to rotate the accretion disc to simulate rotation and tried to insert a keyframe in frame 0 at 0 degrees rotation on the Z axis then a keyframe in frame 100 at 360 degrees rotation on the Z axis, but when I hover my mouse over on the Z axis of the accretion disc and hit "I" to add a keyframe, it says, "rotation_euler" property cannot be animated." EDIT: Sorry, I forgot to choose "item" on the properties menu XD

cant get it to work. i suspect its something going wrong with the parenting but cant figure it out. also i dont see anything being added in the view when adding the empty. but i do see it in the scene collection. to bad you dont have your collection unfolded at the top right so i can see how it looks for you..
@BlenderForge6 ай бұрын
The most likely reasons that the empty is not showing in the viewport is that extras may be turned off in overlays, the collection it's in may be hidden, or another object or objects are in local view mode excluding everything else from the view. Once that is straightened out, I would then unparent everything and setup the parenting again.

@BlenderForge Hi, thanks for your video. I have set my nodes up in the world editor just like you've shown, with Blender 3.5. Two HDRI's with the EXACT setup as your vid. When I output the Is Camera Ray into the Factor of the Mix node, the 2nd HDRI disappears. If I use the Is Glossy Ray or Is Reflection Ray as the Factor, it seems to work good but the actual sun still shows on the HDRI that's supposed to not be showing in reflections. It's weird coz everything else of that HDRI is completely gone nicely except the sun itself. But for some reason the Is Camera Ray just makes 2nd HDRI disappear. Any ideas?
@BlenderForge6 ай бұрын
Is the sun part of an HDRI or is it a sun lamp? If it's a lamp,then this setup wouldn't do it. Or are you perhaps using Nishita Sky as your environment lighting?

What the heck is an "empty."
@BlenderForge6 ай бұрын
Different applications call these different things like a null item or a locator. Any object in Blender is basically a container with XYZ coordinates, rotation, and scale. Some contain mesh or curve data, while others contain sound or simulation data. An empty is just that, a container object containing no data besides location, rotation, and scale. They are normally used as parents of other objects for organization or animation purposes. There are other uses too, but in this case an empty is used as a parent so that only this object needs to be animated while the child objects follow along.

Since it is not clear which button you pressed, what was explained did not work. The most important part of avoiding those who explain it correctly in the search engine is that you do not explain it correctly. You've probably accepted that everyone knows the part of how you connect the object to the empty.
