Your memorial video was perfect! Someone that is so special and important in our lives should have a celebration of life. Yes I balled through the whole video because I know how I would feel if it was my girl. They are so special to us and give us so much richness to our lives. My sincere sympathy for your loss of your best friend Maya.

It took me 1 year exactly. To get our preffered open title. 15 times we entered. Celebration was in order for that one. 😅 Kara is my first obedience dog. I am having a blast! Totally hooked on dog sports. On to graduate novice!

Oh gosh, I just found your channel because I'm starting Rally with my sweet Ginger (a sheltie) and watched several of your videos. Maya was such a a joy to watch!! When subscribing I saw this video, and my heart breaks for you. As a dog person , I immediately saw your connection and love. Our lives can be measured by the pawprints that walk next to us. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, and honoring Maya with this beautiful collection of memories. Sending you virtual ((((hugs)))).

Moved from the east coast where I could find fun matches regularly. Now I’m a more rural area and it’s hard to even find classes. Plus, at least for me, I needed the ring experience to learn to calm my nerves!

though year for corgi's on youtube. I will hug and kiss my corgi girl extra. She's the sixth dog I've had, and by far the best. I tthink the universe mad dog lives shorter so that we'd have the perfect dog for each stage of our lives. But that doesn't make it any easier. i miss all my dogs so much. But I need a dog, and am picky. So, I try to have two at least 4 years apart. In our family, we have a special place for each dog that's passed, video frame, paw print, a art reminder of their favorite toy. When ever I want to be happy , or sad, I go watch the videos. Thanks for posting. You are not alone. Feel free to post anything as you move thru thus. We are here for you.

I am so sorry you lost your beautiful best friend. As you said, it wouldn't matter how long you had with her, it still wouldn't be long enough. I will do as you wish and give my Clarence the Corgi a kiss, even though he hates it. I have been alive long enough to have experienced many losses, both human and animal, they all hit in different ways, but it always hits hard. Thank you, for sharing Maya with us. It is better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all. Farewell Maya ❤❤❤

Great info. My schipperke, Storm, and I just found out about Rally a few months ago when we were taking regular obedience classes. We entered our first AKC Rally competition in Feb and had a lot of fun. Rally is much more entertaining and enjoyable than regular obedience. I also like the bond it creates between you and your dog. Over the past three months we got our AKC Rally Novice A title, moved to Rally Novice B for 8 more Qs and several ribbons which helped Storm get more comfortable in the ring, and we just got our AKC Rally Intermediate title a couple weeks ago. This is all still very new to us and we’re supposed to go into AKC Rally Advanced next.

Thanks for this! My dog sneezes once or twice when we go into the competition ring. I know it’s stress. We are trialing tomorrow. I’ll remember your advice because it matters more that he’s comfortable than whether or not we get a Q. I think sometimes I just hurry him along because I’m worried about the judge. I’ll stay calm and reassure him best I can in the situation. He hasn’t ever sneezed when we are training. Good your dog gave you a head’s up. Lol

I love watching you with your Corgis! I’m getting ready to start rally classes. I have “heel” down. But I’ve accidentally trained my girl to automatically sit when I stop walking when I’m a heel position. How can I train this out of her?

I love your ideas and presentation. I have a border collie, and she’s focused and quick when I have a treat with me. But when we go to competition , you would think it’s the most boring thing in the world to her. We just got her Excellent title, and are ready to start working on the RACH. Any suggestions for making this more exciting and engaging for her. I am kind of stiff in the ring. I know I need to loosen up. I think it’s nerves 😊. Thanks for any advice you can think of.

Ha - I needed this tonight and appreciate it. We were cruising along with our BN and our CD (three first places!) and today was our first Open trial - Open A. He’s my first dog I’ve done any of this with. We’ve been doing so well in training and run throughs. We NQ’d - on three things in one leg today - drop on recall, retrieve over the high jump, and broad jump. It was a more quiet venue and he was aware of everything. Previously, we’ve trialed in more crowded and happening places. He’s been great with the high jump and the broad jump. He’s missed the drop on recall a few times in higher energy training with dogs running beside us. Anyway, I had no idea there were so many NQs as the difficulty progresses. People have been telling me lately. I guess I’d better hold on for the ride. Lol He’s a good boy and has some other titles in hunt tests, rally, and tricks. We are still working on agility, but we have a blue ribbon leg. :D

I’ve been interested in trying either obidience or rally with my corgi mix, he’s super smart and does very well with training. My problem is I’m not sure where to start with training for obidience or rally as I don’t know much about the sports at all. Which would be better for a first timer? How do you practice and train for these trails ect. I would love some feedback on how to get started! Thanks!!

This is cool! In an actual trial you can’t do this can you? In our last one. I did something similar but I did it in order to get her to focus heel more natural.

This is what I tell all my new beginner students. I give them the example of how it took 6 tries to get my last dog her CD. One time all dogs in the class NQed because mice 🐁 came through an open back door and laid a scent trail along the back wall. Chaos and hilarity ensued! I said, oh well, remember our motto, “ we may fall apart, but we’re gunna look dam good doing it!” TYSM for posting. Hmmmm ……wonder how many times Lassie just got tired of getting Timmy out of the well. 😂

Love the video, but wanted to clarify some of the things😊 - in Rally, you can get points off if you have to ask your dog to sit or down, like 3 times - it's judges discretion. I've seen more than a few judges be very picky on that and take points off. Also Rally has about 130 signs - i think 127. Masters signs are in the 300 class, excellent in 200's, intermediate and Advanced are 100's - with the only difference in advanced is there's a jump. But, there aren't 100 signs per class. There are around 25 - 45 signs per class (counting intermediate and advanced as one class, just adding the jump). And the send to jump (#210) has to be completed on the first attempt AND the dog has to leave the handler *at the sign* to the jump. Otherwise it should be a full 10 points off - incorrectly performed exercise.

I would love to know about obedience. I use different words for some of the commands (here for heel, wait for stay) is this acceptable or do I need to condition my dog with new words for commands??
@elizabethunger9190
@elizabethunger9190 3 ай бұрын
Instead of teaching stay it’s actually best to simply teach a dog to sit or down until released.
@1packatak
@1packatak 2 ай бұрын
@@elizabethunger9190agree. Sit is sit and down is down until I tell my dog to do something else. Then when you first start competing, you won’t accidentally give say a stay instead of wait😅😅

I was blown away to hear how rally started! I am competing with my Bichon frise. I'm sure people look at her and wonder what I'm doing there. She is loving RallyO as I am, we have just got Novice licked and cgcg. Why do people think little dogs can't make it? Any way I loved your video, keep them coming.

At my last trial. We showed all three days. Out of 3 days we got one leg. Score 186. That was the middle day. The first day and the last day she did not want to down. That has not been a problem before. When we where going out of the building one day. A very high level competitor. Said to me , it happens, I blew all three rings today. She does both open and utility. UDX, has gone to nationals. So yes, it happens to everyone. It’s a sport, you never always win. If we qualify I consider it a win. We only compete against ourselves. My dog is my first obedience dog. She is two now. We need one more leg to have open title. I just have so much fun training and going to the shows. NQ or not. Thanks for posting about the unmentionable. Ha Ha!

Do you find that this toy gets smelly? The first time we played with ours it got stinky so fast- like bad breath. I washed it and now when we play, it smells like laundry detergent and bad breath. I love the toy and so does my dog, but the stinkiness makes me not want to play as long as he wants to.

Open A probably has the highest rate of NQs. It’s pretty normal for only 1 or 2 dogs to Q out of a dozen entries at the trials I’ve done this fall with my novice A dog. But as you say, each time it’s ‘just not quite’! Tara and I successfully got our CDX title last month at our 7th trial attempt. I was ecstatic!
