Fuses fast blow on spikes of much greater caliber. The amp rating is just a constant operating value, not a value over which it will instantly blow. A 1 amp fuse for example may operate a long time at 20 amps and will eventually blow per spec. This time is longer as you get closer to 1 amp. Once you reach 1 amp the fuse is designed not to ever blow. Try this same test with expensive bussman fuses and you will get similar results.

These were fast blow fuses. They should have opened up within a few seconds. You may be thinking of time-delay fuses which are designed for inrush currents such as motors. Anyways, proper fuses blew at exactly when they should have. If you don't believe me, try it yourself.

And no, Bussman fast blow fuses will blow very quick for a 1amp @ 20 amps. Also, the element is much different. There was no element in these fuses, it was a 24ga copper wire.

You are right and you are wrong. You are right in that you should never use cheap no name Chinese fuses in your equipment, especially higher amp and higher voltage fuses like 20A / 250V etc. It's VERY dangerous. You are wrong in this: a 1A fuse may not blow immediately after exceeding 1A even for a fast acting fuse. Fusing time and current is a very complicated and difficult subject for the fuse manufacturers, and you can find out the ratings at different currents from a Data Sheet. Try Bussman or Littelfuse data sheets for fast acting fuses, and this will show you that a 1A fuse won't immediately blow at 1.01A. Regards.
@jjmonns
@jjmonns 4 жыл бұрын
I know what you are saying and I agree that fuses having clearing times and all. However, in the context of what I was showing, it was far above "1.01 amps." Sure, if you used some way to capture the exact moment, you would find a delay. After all, even light isn't immediate nor is the response of a mouse click.
@bn880
@bn880 4 жыл бұрын
@@jjmonns Hi, yes your test overall did show a problem going up to 18A+ but it was somewhat borderline and the test was not conducted correctly overall. You do literally need to open up some spec sheets that do have the interrupt rating times and see for yourself, especially on larger fuses. You'd be VERY surprised how slow a fast acting 25A fuse for example is to blow at say 30A. And just how many amps it takes to blow it in a few ms. For example for fast acting cartridge fuses gyazo.com/d2dc461eaf24809942a3c834235d108d it takes around 400-500A to quickly blow a 25A fuse.
@jjmonns
@jjmonns 4 жыл бұрын
@@bn880 I understand what you are saying. I agree that my word usage was less technical and more in the moment. However, at 300% or more over current, you are going to see the type of fuse in the video blow in less than a second. That chart you linked is for larger style fuses in power distribution. The types of fuses in the video are similar to those found in everything from small motor applications to Fluke meters. The criteria for what is considered "fast blow" is relative to the application, so the context of a time chart is important to the specific fuse being studied.
@bn880
@bn880 4 жыл бұрын
@@jjmonns Hi, no , the chart I linked is for this type of fuse as well. 1A is listed there. But yes of course, it should have blown way faster especially at 300% like you say. However not as you expected at just over 1A. I think it's pretty clear you just learned this from me, so lets not argue more about it and move on.

It works reasonably well. Its pretty simple: it takes steam from the boiler and is regulated with a knob. You have to be sure to purge the air out first.
