Furthermore the anode does not have to be only stainless steel, because using pure gold instead will make a superior anode. In fact, if pure gold is used as the anode rather than stainless steel, then the gold electroplating solution will last much longer. This is because by using a pure gold anode, then the gold cations in the electroplating solution will not become depleted since they will be replenished from the gold anode.

What about some mild steel (Im guessing in the case of galvanized, the galvanization has been removed with vinegar first) can I do it this way or do I need to nickel plate it first? LOTS of misinformation here - the 'nickel activator' as he calls it - is actually NICKEL PLATING SOLUTION. you have to plate it with nickel BEFORE plating with gold ... because ... can you guess why?? yes!! that's RIGHT! because of the electrochemical series! remember high school?

One of the rare youtube tutorial on how to do that and very well explained. Like in a lot of case, any 5V-1A charger would do the job ok ? Btw i'm thinking about doing that with 24k gold leaf but i don't know how well it would disolve and how to make the gold solution ? (I mean i bet with gold you can't do it with standard white vinegar but in hydrochloric acid and another one that i forgot the name of right ?)
