With it's 16 Coal Power Plants South Africa's contribution to global greenhouse gas emissions is <0.4%, we're far from being the problem. This RE frenzy doesn't consider the Socioeconomic which is more of faster ticking time bomb for RSA than the environment. But if we really want to solve the environmental issue while considering the Socioeconomic, nuclear is the way to go. Coal still plays an important role in our economy it is a mass employer and should not be faced out just yet.

Interesting topic, As an Environmental Graduate I find myself between a hard place and a rock. 1. Coal is abundant in South Africa so It is Economically viable and keep the lights on in a large scale. disadvantage it causes health risk. 2. renewables potential health risks are less, disadvantage: 1. the energy out put is less that the one from coal. 2. we will some how need more mines to produce the renewable energy technologies, meaning more damage to the environment. 3. when it comes to environmental activism, we need jobs but we protest against new gas and oil exploration projects. 4. theirs a global boom of EV auto mobiles- but in south africa, we have an energy crisis(like load shedding), infrastructure development is happening at a low rate. we still have a long way to go, thank you for this conversation , i believe its the starting point.
