an older sibling is very psychologicaly close to a parent for younger siblings. Just like you want to make your dad proud, you also want to make your older brother proud. and you always look for this approval or disproval on you.

The reason Chuck despises Jimmys accomplishment is because Chuck knows Jimmy can possibly do what Chuck can ie be a great litigator, attorney and all the book stuff..But Chuck knows he can never be what Jimmy can which is funny, likeable and overall good guy who everyone enjoys being around. this is what eats chuck. such a nice job they did with the character arcs and personality in this show.

I always hated Chucks disparaging of Jimmy passing the bar and getting a law degree. Chuck went to the best college for law he could, with his parents funding him, and then was able to pass the bar after the best education he could, with nothing else in the way, no job in the way of studying. Jimmy did this after he already has a rap sheet, meaning he would automatically be discriminated against by admissions and hirers, his parents were likely both dead before he started this attempt, and he had to work long hours in the mailroom just to afford to live. He couldn't afford to go to the colleges he wanted to, he went to the one that would allow him to work and study, and worked hard while juggling a social life, work, and studies. He passed his course, and did at least three tries to pass the bar exam, never giving up, never cheating, he did it all on his own hardwork and merit while keeping himself alive by working. Chuck would never have paid for him to go to a better college for his course, or have helped him if he decided to quit the mailroom and just focus on going to a college to study, he did not want Jimmy to ever be his equal.

This could have had some serious comedy behind it, Jimmy starts delivering the mail with a t-shirt that read I Passed the Bar and people go between shock and clapping.

I love how Jimmy turns into a hesitant little brother whenever he had spoken with Chuck. He really adored the guy maybe even idolised him.

Just think, if Chuck had been genuinely proud of Jimmy achieving this, we would have been denied so much excellent television-Go Land Crabs!

Small but interesting detail: the face Chuck flashes at 0:36 is very reminiscent of his discomfort face when he experiences his hypersensitivity to electricity. like jimmy was somehow the cause of it all.
