Beautiful. Can you please tell me where to buy the roller, the foam accessories and plastic plate from? Do they come with the press to get started?

Can I 3d print the object used to emboss? Or does it experience too much force?
@openpressproject Жыл бұрын
You can definitely print what you want to emboss! I'd suggest making it about 1-2mm thick. With very thick high quality paper you might be able to emboss even thicker plates, but it might tear at some point during printing.

I had an idea for controlling nip pressure. Basically on either side of impression roller bearing (spherical) is a long lever arm with an adjustable spring at the end. By using a long enough lever arm you essentially have a constant force spring. If the substrate properties are relatively uniform (and the lever arm rigid metal), do you think this could work? The idea would be to eliminate the blanket.

Sounds like you need to GET a GOT-O-GRAM... "Getting Got" is the name of an artistic project where I send off miniaturized embossings and prints in an A6 format and then get them to reply by sending me a film of them opening the package... which I then use to make a film about the terrible things that happened to them after receiving my package... It all came about because of the joy of receiving such a package. Creativity begets more creativity. First they were called "Zachar-o-grams" - then I changed it to GOT-O-GRAM because it has so many meanings: firstly receiving something, but also the act of being understood. The whole process fetishizes the process of artistic interaction. I've designed and made by own printing presses although now I usually use a book press or an A3 embosser to make prints or embossings with embossing folders I've worked out a technique to make myself. kzfaq.infoH5MWSwGag7k?feature=share.

Hi, Thanks for sharing this great project! I came across this video because I wanted to do something similar, are you open sourcing this design? Or do you plan to do so in the near future?
@openpressproject Жыл бұрын
Hi, sorry for the late reply! There are currently no plans to open source it, because it would need a lot of documentation to make this easy for people to build. But I might simplify it at some point if the right opportunity comes up. Did you end up building something similar? Would love to see it! Best, Martin

This is actually really cool! It works with all kind of inks or has to be a special kind?
@openpressproject2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! This would work with other inks as well, but oil-based ink for relief printing will probably give you the best results and more details compared to acrylic paint for example.

its much faster and easier to use a copy machine, or even stencils are way easier, stencils can be 3d printed :) and produce faster things.
@openpressproject2 жыл бұрын
Sure, stencils are fun! We're trying to make a specific kind of art techniques accessible, so that they can be used more. For me printmaking is not only about the final result, but about the process. I find it a lot more more fun than stencils! :)

This is excellent. It is the same philosophy as I employ for the PUMA microscope project but in a completely different field. Shows the democratising power of 3D printing and the willingness of experts in various fields to share their expertise with everyone for free.
