82lbs and a 340 spine. That's pretty dumb. If your "manning" up to 80lbs... why not build a solid 550gr arrow?? You "gotta go fast" there Ricky Bobby? Is it because of your "pin gaps" lol 70/80lbs...250 spine...550gr...a GOOD fixed head and like a magnus or a single bevel.

I'm very similar in setup. For 20yrs I've shot between 63 to 68# at 28" DL. I've shot every weight from 390 to 483grs. I've killed bears, deer, and turkey. Even at 63lbs for many years I've had full pass through on shots just like that. Our deer here in PA aren't that big 165 to 185lb average. I spent years using rocket heads and rage after that. Past 5 years was rage and shwacker only. I've mixed a fixed head in nearly every year to for at least one kill to compare. I've killed with nearly every normal brand known over the 20yrs. Still I run mechincals for the cut size, bow draw 28", and draw weight now is 71 to 75lbs for hunting. My arrow weight is still 420 to 440gr tops. My results with a setup smaller or similar I've never had issues like that but I've never liked sevr bc of the swing blades. Not saying that's it but my mind I don't want that movement in blades. I've tagged out nearly every year but 4 years on everything in that without bears included. This makes me question more what did you hit inside, was it the head, etc compared to what I've seen and expirenced myself. Mystical arrow flight as always. Great video!

Shot placement is everything. You killed all the deer you shot at.The one's that went the farthest were the shots weren't the best. They weren't terrible but some were better than others. Again, shot placement is everything. Both set ups work, especially on deer.

I would call 430 to 550 a midweight arrow. I would never recommend shooting a mechanical with anything lighter than that. When I went to 455 grains and 14% foc things changed dramatically with mechanical heads. My two favorites are the Sevr 1.5 and 1.75. I don't see the need for the 2" as I don't like unpredictable penetration. I also learned that tuning is EXTREMELY important with mechanical's. If your arrows and bow are not super tuned your penetration will suck.

Absolutely LOVE the archery content. Please give us more. Im a 30inch DL, pulling 60lbs on my Mathews Halon 6. I’ve gotten pass throughs on all but 1 deer that I’ve shot with that bow and 1 BIG hog. And that’s using fixed and mechanical blades. My arrow weight is about 450 grains. And that’s using only 100 grain broadheads.

With the Easton setup you are around 15% FOC with the 340 spine. A 250 spine in that arrow will bump your TAW to 498ish and still be around 14%, which will not only tune better, but also prevent energy leaks from arrow wobble on contact. A stiffer arrow at 500 grains + fixed head = good penetration. You should consider giving the VPA Omega a try - patented one piece machined design (100% Made in the USA) with nothing to move or replace. It's a hybrid head, part single bevel and part double bevel, as tough a head as you will find and penetrates like no other.

Man I wish you could help me, I have short draw length 26in 28in arrows gold tip hunter xt 300 spine. With 100gn heads my foc is 10.7 with a 125gn head I’m at 14. Something, so would it be a no brainer to shot 125gn Hoyt rx5 70lb draw and help would be appreciated

Relax on the 250 spine stuff guys... your simply giving bad information. There are people shooting 350 spine arrows albeit with not as much weight up front but slightly less at a longer draw length and 80+/- 2 lbs. Boards are just as hard to tune as an arrow that is to light of a spine. Don't get suckered into this 250 stuff, build 1 or 2 arrows in a .300 spine and see how you get them to fly.
@TheSouthernObsession
@TheSouthernObsession 5 сағат бұрын
250 spine is helluva lot better than 340 at 82lbs and more than 28"draw. 300 should do fine but so will 250 again both being much better move than 340, ultimately comes down to the brand/model of arrow aswell. Easton calls for 300-250 spine for arrows 28-30" CTC at 79-84lbs. Can't really be "over spined" just adds more TAW

Your shooting 80lbs you need to be in the 250 spine. I have found that shooting a 300 spine out of my mid 70s bow with 50 grains of brass and I’m in the low 500s. In my honest opinion in your going to use mechanicals you need better built one like the new sevrs and the rages that are made out of something other aluminum. Seems to help also is touching up blades for sharpness before hunting.

that first shot for sure was not a money shot and the 2nd was not the boiler room both those shots where what I call back based off where i try and hit right up the leg lower 1/3rd . 550 is as low as I will go on deer and I will aim right at the shoulder on that 3rd shot and that iron will will punch through it been there done that also before carbon we used heavy arrows out of slower bows and killed the piss out of deer.. I can shoot my 550 grains out to 125 on my site tape im also shooting 82 pounds but at 29 inches and all my arrows are 250 spine . I see a lot of folks shoot where you shoot back instead of the heart and I think its cause they dont have confidence in there arrow I sure would not call 479 heavy my 3d bow I use 450 grain arrows those where some fine bucks man congrats... I think the 4th shot was the best shot of them all God Bless

Ditto, I rarely ever see a good shot on deer from KZfaqrs, there always 4" back of the crease middle of the body and they always say smoked them, but then again most of them are shooting expandables and light arrows to get maximum speed, so I spose there not confident in hitting them in the right spot

I'd use a heavier spine than 300 if you're pulling 80#'s...That's at the low end of adequate...I shoot with 250 spine arrows...At 80#'s you need a Heavy Spine arrow...When you can shoot a 450-500 gr arrow @ 80#'s, and it's an absolute clothesline at 40-50 yds, you'll have serious pass throughs on your deer...Also, 15%-18% FOC is perfect for those arrow weights and draw weight...It gives you a flatter trajectory and serious pass throughs...Good luck on your experiments!

g5 Montec is the dullest piece of whistling trash right out of the plastic. He's shooting a Dead meat, not a Mega meat; they are one of the more reliable expendables. At 27" DL, He can get away with a 300 spine and be fine, 340 with that much weight up front is a little light with 80lbs. 250 will work but its to stiff in my opinion based of what I have shot over the years. Personally a 430-480grain arrow is the perfect arrow weight for white tail, and other critters. 30grains of arrow weight is 10fps give or take. 280fps is a sweet spot for fixed blades to fly really well. Some of those shots looked great you can see for yourself the ones that squared into 1 or 2 ribs, and the one that missed both completely and zipped right through the deep at sub 400 grains. Pick your best flying fixed blade, or your favorite mechanical and just make good shots.. if you make a good shot and you don't get greedy and take silly shots your going to kill everything with your setup.

I'm very confused by one of your arrow setups talking about a 340 spine arrow with 100 grass insert in 100 grain tip according to every arrow chart I have ever seen that would be a weak spine also considering the fact I'm only shooting 70 lb with a 300 spine Arrow with a 75 grain brass insert in 125 grain point and just on the edge of being a little weak for my Black Eagle zombie slayers.. now I'm just chomping at the bit waiting for this upcoming deer season so I can try out my arrow build and I believe my arrow total weight was around ballpark around 530 grains

He said he has a 27 inch draw. If his arrow is cut short it could be like 26.5 inches and spines are measured at 28 inches. So his 340 is stiffer than someone else’s 340. I have a 30.5 inch draw and 28-5/8 inch arrow. So if he had the same difference his arrow would dang near be 25 inches.
@easternadventures4254

My draw is 27” also and my arrows are cut to 25” carbon to carbon. That short of an arrow dramatically stiffens the spine.

ya so @@easternadventures4254 25”, say 340 spine, is much stiffer than someone who has a long draw and cuts the arrow past the riser. They may have a 30.0-30.5 inch 340 arrow. Two totally different arrows
@cjr4497
@cjr4497 23 сағат бұрын
@@easternadventures4254 Some also argue the insert stiffens the spine. For instance, a 200 grain head would weaken a spine more than a 100 grain head with a 100 grain insert.
