Alberta has affordable housing, cost of living is reasonable, and the economy is strong. British Columbia is an absolutely beautiful province, but life is generally more expensive there. 1:30 Without a shadow of a doubt, the reason why Calgary will and should always cost more than Edmonton, is location. Calgary is a 1h drive to what is generally considered one of the, if not the most beautiful locations in Canada, The Rocky Mountains. Edmonton is a 4h drive from anything that isn't a flat farmers field and for a lot of people, that just isn't acceptable quality of life. Also, Edmonton's airport is probably the worst set up in any city over 1m people, possibly in the world. Edmonton's airport has very few international destination, almost all trips travel to Calgary, Vancouver, or Toronto, unless you're going Cancun, almost guaranteed, you have a layover. The same is absolutely not true from Calgary. Also, Edmonton's airport is a 30+ minute drive south of the city, and get this, even if you live on the South side of the city, it costs $75 each way in taxi to get to the airport. That is actually attrocious and unacceptable, but won't be fixed for another hundred years due to bad planning. Compare that to Vancouver, you can take a $4 train from anywhere in the city to the airport in half the time. Much like most major cities in the world.
@Evan_Cochlin
@Evan_Cochlin Ай бұрын
I agree that Calgary's location is better, being so close to the mountains and having more options at the airport are both very nice. However, many people are willing to drive the extra 2.5 hrs to the mountains and take a connecting flight when traveling if it means saving 200K on the price of their home.

I love the older neighbourhoods and the character homes. I’m sad to see them tearing down the old houses and replacing them with infill houses. I’m currently house sitting a home on Balmoral Drive. They called it home since 1960! I love the history of that neighbourhood and always feel privileged to house sit for them every summer. Lacombe park is my favourite spot of all though. I hailed from Bertha Kennedy Community School. Thanks for taking us on a tour of the beautiful community I’m proud to call home. Great video as usual Evan!

In the 90's we liked St. Albert because it didn't have so much commercial traffic and houses were affordable. We liked all the big stores in Edmonton and it was a short trip. Now the big stores are in St Albert which made it crowded, expensive and takes for every to get around. My mother was mugged and her purse stolen on a trail near St Albert center. I know people that have had cars broken into and windows smashed. People in St Albert just don't report crimes like they use to. St Albert is just a small Edmonton that is more expensive.
