Another good overview of the financial side of living in Canada. One point I would mention is the loss in the value of the Canadian Dollar in recent years. This makes imported goods much more expensive than in the USA or Singapore. Also, Canadian per capita GDP has stagnated since 2011 if you look at World Bank data, while prices went up all the time.

The average income for a single person in Canada is not $100k Closer to $50K and that's after putting in 10 to 20 years depending on occupation and being lucky enough for the company to last that long! In Canada no industry is safe or stable anymore!

This administration is putting many families in difficult situations. A lot of people are financially struggling to live, put a roof over their head and put food on the table. Things are getting worse these days, if you don't find means of multiplying your money you might wake up a day to realise you didn't plan well for yourself and family…

If I would have come recently (I am here 17 years ago) I probably would leave. Only thing that made Canada feasible for us that both, me and my wife are self employed. As a regular worker you're the same slave as back home, wherever you came from.

Grocery prices are cheaper overall in Canada than in the U.S.. At least they are in Ontario compared to surrounding states. Go to any American border community and notice how the retail is suffering because very few Canadians are shopping there unlike in the past.

Canadians are friendly but made stiffed because of that BS "politically correct" belief embedded in their politeness. That makes them come across as "fake" at times as they feel like they have to be careful all the time...that's hard for them to be truly natural and friendly.

While Zurich SUI may have a much higher cost of living index than Toronto, the average salary in that city is 100K CHF (149K CAD). Compared to the Toronto CA avg. salary of $62K you can see that they have far higher purchasing power than we do. Ironically enough after tax income is about the same at 76.4% in Zurich and 76.6% in Toronto.

You have to remember too that a one bedroom in Toronto is going to be bigger than a one bedroom in NYC or Tokyo. Tokyo is so huge that it might be cheaper but you are in a district nowhere near "Downtown".

Wages in New York for professionals are significantly higher than Toronto but there's another big point you miss with real estate anything within a 2-hour radius of Toronto is still very expensive I have a friend that lives in New Jersey with a better transportation system he's in Manhattan in 45 minutes and housing costs dropped significantly and he's still within a reasonable distance houses in Barrie are still over a million dollars and traveling to Toronto because of our poor infrastructure and antiquated subway system makes it less feasible
@amegallioz3 күн бұрын
Salaries are lower in Toronto than in the US, that’s the main issue, Canada should be able to become as competitive as them to attract investors as well instead of letting the Real Estate bubble to burst.

There is a real lack of practical financial education in schools. I have friends that max out their RRSP every year because their parents told them it's what to do, but in the meantime, they're carrying 10k on their credit card, quickly spiralling out of control.
