You don’t need to have a super high or even high income to do this, but you will need to make some hard decisions. I’ll also share some insights into how we saved our first 10k in Toronto, Canada, well as a couple, let’s make that 20k, and what we learned from it! At first glance it may seem impossible to save any money in an expensive city such as Toronto, but with some strategizing it can work out! #SaveMoney #FinancialFreedom #MoneySavingTipsCanada

I saved $40K as an international student in Canada over 8 months by doing two internships and freelancing remotely. I try to keep my monthly expenses below $1.8K by cooking most meals and only eating out once or twice a week, and I split rent with a housemate. The 8 months were intense and definitely not sustainable, but I figured it would give me a good cushion for emergency funds or for investing. I was mainly worried as I will be graduating this year and entering the Canadian job market, so this amount of $ is giving me peace of mind.

How did you find the freelancing jobs? I was trying to apply via INDEED AND GLASSDOR. So far I haven't been successful. Hope you will share your success story with me 🙏

That's something to emulate! Really impressive. I can imagine it's not sustainable in the long run, like you said. But it's a great strategy for the short term, as you did, for a year or two.

This falls into the category of "cutting out unnecessary expenses", but for those who have vices, like smoking, drinking, gambling and every other type of vice and addiction, you really need to re-evaluate the allocation of those dollars.

Living pay cheque to pay cheque is horrible, I wouldn't be able to sleep. I've always maintained enough savings to last me years if I ever couldn't work.
