is the Swiss half fare card better than the Swiss travel pass? I am there for 3 days in September with my partner, landing in Zurich for 1 night and then Interlaken, we will also take some cable cars. Switzerland is so expensive, if we can save any money would be great!
@SwitzerlandInsiderКүн бұрын
If you take the half fare card you are a bit better off than if not but no big difference i my eyes. Swiss travel pass could be okay too if you make use of the the discounts it gives you with cable cars

Hi Greg, Thank you for sharing this information. I have a question. I will be traveling to Switzerland in August for 2 days (Weekend) One day- Grindelwald & Lauterbrunnen. Planning to visit Grindelwald first cliff - by cable car, also want to try flyer while coming down. Need to visit Lauterbrunnen valley - train. 2nd day- Kilchberg Lindt factory Which pass would be great to choose for 3 people? Could you suggest the best one?

Thank you for this video. May I ask you a question pls. I am visiting Switzerland for 6 days. 3 in the Jungrau region, & 3 in Lucerne/Zurich. I have a rental car from Milan driving into Switzerland. Do you recommend I get the Jungrau Travel Pass or the Half Fare card? And do you think I can get around without the rental car if my airbnb is about 1hr away from Interlaken, Lucerne, & Zurich?
@SwitzerlandInsiderКүн бұрын
Might want to look into Berner Oberland Pass if you leave the car at the house or Half Fare Card if you take the car each day. But you need to visit like 4 cable cars/ mountains for it to break even.

Hi, wonderful tips. We are travelling soon in july last and 1st week of August. We are taking Bernina express from Tirano to Chur. And then half day to vaduz and then making Thun bas base for 4 nights 5 days. During those days pls help us to choose between titlis / Zermatt. Where the view and experience is better for snow cladded peaks? Bern is in our plan one day from Thun. One day to Interlaken.
@SwitzerlandInsider2 күн бұрын
Sounds like a good plan! If you are in that corner already i would do zermatt and the jungfrau region 😊

Flew into Zurich. Went to railway kasse and helpful man sold us 1/2 price rail pass for 120sf then a Berner Oberland Pass for 315sf ( would have been 435sf without the 1/2 price card) this meant our return trip to Lauterbrunnen was 1/2 price saving 85sf then for the next 10 full days all train, cable cars, boats , post buses were free saving us ,00s of sf. Only extra cost was Murren to Shilthorn and Eiger Gletcher to Jungfraujoch- but these were 1/2 price.

@SwitzerlandInsider7 күн бұрын
Hello! It‘s a bit much to answer in a comment 😊 but you will either enter switzerland in ticino canton in chiasso, or you will go to valais canton from domodossola. I would do the valais canton as ticino is often too warm for snow 😊 then you could head onwards to the jungfrau region from valais after visiting zermatt for example! Hope this gives some more clarity 😊

Hi, useful video thanks. Not sure you read the comments... I pre-booked train tickets (Zurich to Interlaken) which are non refundable unfortunately 😢. Is it still worth getting a half fare pass if we intend exploring Grindelwald and laubrummen (sorry spelling lol) but not top of the world. Arrive on Tuesday for 5 days, 2 adults and 2 14 years old. Thinking maybe break even but not much better. The Zurich train would have been a huge saving at half price and free kids. Pays to research first!

Hello! No i think youre doing wise planning! I think you did some math already so its basically up to you 😊 maybe you want to look into Berner Oberland Pass also (but without half fare card as you would only use it for that). Maybe you can include Brienzer Rothorn into the itinerary also 😊 have fun!

Great video great information im wondering how easy is it to get to these places do they have major airports relatively close by or its a lot of transferring from plane to busses,also are there any resorts you recommend for the Alps around Christmas time ?
@SwitzerlandInsider8 күн бұрын
Most ski resorts are accessible from Zurich Airport in about 2-3 hrs train. Except the ones in Valais, they take a bit longer. Christmas is the only time ski resorts are really full so no matter where you go, try to book accommodation now already!

I love your channel content. I so want to be there. So I am a sports car driver. Is it really likely that if I drive spiritedly just on visible open and uncontested alpine pass roads that I will get heavy fine? I see videos of motorcyclists doing aggressive passes. Don’t they get fined? I took sports car through Austrian alpine passes last year with no issues. This concerns me to the level I might not want to drive in Switzerland. I love cows.

I just got back last night and wanted to thank you! Your tips and encouragement made my trip exciting instead of boring. Here’s my perspective on car rentals as someone from the US: - Get the highest insurance coverage like Supercover. Without it, rental companies will find a way to charge you for something. - Smaller cars are better. - The only place I found driving difficult was Geneva. Next time, I'll use the rental for village trips and return it before visiting a major city. - Plan your stops ahead of time; I used satellite images to find easy/free parking. - I stuck to the speed limit but got honked at a lot. I’m not sure if it was speeding locals or clueless tourists.
@NewCastleIndiana6 күн бұрын
I just finishing up my first trip. I hit the ground running in Geneva and trying to figure out all the ground rules on the road in the first 30 minutes. The thing I still don’t understand are the curved dashed lines that sometimes look like triangles I can’t tell who has the right away on those. And I got honked at on one of those in Geneva. Other than that, I pretty much stuck with the speed limit, and I did not get honked at. Did not stick to the speed limit on the four mountain passes that I went and drove. Stopping at all the places and getting a bite to eat a souvenir or a drink really made it nice. Now what the heck is wrong with GoPro? Mine kept overheating and would not, continue recording. Had to do some road over again because I wanted to catch it. Oh well, driving some of the best roads twice, could be worse.😅

Hi Greg! I have a question. I will be travelling to Switzerland in December for 11 days. Will go from Geneva to interlarken to Zurich. Should I buy Half fare pass and BO Pass or do you suggest only buying Switzerland Travel pass?
@SwitzerlandInsider16 күн бұрын
I would do Swiss Travel Pass Flex (3 or 4 days), so you can cover the days with long distances on the pass. The pass will also give you 50% off on many cogwheel trains and cable cars.
@deepthidivakaran712816 күн бұрын
I am planning to travel to Swiz for 6 days. Only first and last day ill need train pass between Zurich to Lauterbrunnen and last day betwen lucern to geneva. Other 4 days planning to spend in and around Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen and Lucern. So is BOB or Swiss Pass better? Because with Berneroblerland pass i still have to take additional pass for first and last day. I dont have a proper itinerary planned, so not sure how many times i might jop in & out so Half fare pass might be a little hectic I guess.
@SwitzerlandInsiderКүн бұрын
Take the berner oberland pass and regular tickets for the rest. But since you cover some distance you might also take the half fare card to get discount on the tickets and also the berner oberland pass!

Hi Greg. Is travelling around Switzerland by bus a good option? Since you have always talked about the train system, I am wondering is there a bus system too?
@SwitzerlandInsider17 күн бұрын
Thats a good question! In Switzerland we have buses for commuter lines in cities and suburbs. There are also post buses (PostAuto) that connect rural areas. I don‘t think you can rely on buses solely to get about simply because there are not enough lines that connect. However if you want to travel in Europe, you have the option to travel large distances by bus with companies such as Flixbus.

I have now been visiting Switzerland for over 50 years. I stay in one place (nowadays Zurich) but go out travelling every day using a First Class Swiss Travel Pass. The combination of the Swiss Travel Pass and the,fantastic taktfahrplan timetable means that I do not need a fixed plan as to where I am going. I have only a rough idea when I set out each morning. During the day I will often change my mind as to where i am going. It is so relaxing to be able to do this!. You do not have this wonderful flexibility if you buy tickets using a Half Fare Travel Card.
