I feel like this is a throwing the baby out with the bathwater solution but thanks for sharing. I have been making spiky creations that I then attach to the sides of the downspouts with cable ties. I did one with aluminum flashing that wraps around the 45deg upper portion to the point where they can't wrap their arms around it anymore and I also attached PVC strips that have drywall screws sticking out of and the whole thing was attached to the downspout with cable ties. I am going to try creating strips of 30 mills stainless steel with a series of triangular spikes cut and bent outwards maybe 1" wide by 5" long and these will be attached to the downspouts with cable ties and maybe double side pressure treated adhesive foam tapes.

Anything to keep them off the roof, but my end solution was to just replace the roof with Decra(tm) metal shingle roofing. Wonderful investment in a 80 year rated roof. No more concerns of varmets getting into the roof, high winds, ice, or leaks. I also replaced the gutters with 3" plastic ones and the siding is aluminum. The bandits can go up but they have no place to hide. Love from Chicago.

@@GallowayChicago I wish a metal roof was in my budget. The fascia boards are also of concern in this nearly 100 yr old house because if they find a spot that is rotted enough to get their nose in it, the squirrels will open the hole and then the racoons come in and enlarge it. Trying to keep both off the roof but racoons can climb stuff squirrels can't as you know.

How hard is to pull the stators from the other sides my bearings are whining but only on the stators
@GallowayChicago
@GallowayChicago 2 ай бұрын
I could not find a dependable bearing supplier. Ford/Lincoln do not have rebuild parts. They just replace the whole trans for $8K to $16K (usd). I found a used trans for $3k and paid about $1K to get it installed at the only trans shop in ALL of Chicago willing to do it. They had/have experience removing and installing Toyota Prius Taxi trans and wanted to try their hand at the Lincoln trans. Bottom-line: they did an amazing job, but I had to open the used trans I got from CA before they could install it. The old trans had low ATF and the color of the ATF was almost black. The used trans from CA had beautiful ATF. It was not new but had no signs of any breakdown and all the gears were polished looking. (I got lucky) I come from a world where trans cost under $1k, so this whole hybrid thing is new to me, but above $8k for a new trans is ridiculous (imo). I still have the old working trans that, like yours, only need new bearings. Maybe I will sell on eBay as a working core??? Love from Chicago.

That was my plan-B. It was my plan-A, but after watching KZfaq vids that showed people replacing the main and regen bearings, I was unable to source the OEM or better bearings, and I did not want to buy a bunch of mystery bearings without knowing they would 100% work. I wish you much luck. As long as the gears don't have broken teeth, the trans should be a good candidate for a simple bearing swap. Please let me know how you get on mate. love from Chicago.

I looks a similar design to the RAV4 HEV eCVT? Are they all unreliable?
@GallowayChicago
@GallowayChicago 2 ай бұрын
"In my opinion": This design is amazing, I can see why multiply major auto manufactures use a variation of this design, but in the case of the 2013-2014 Ford/Lincoln hybrid failures and subsequent recall people were replaced with early assembly mechs that did not apply enough RTV sealant and these unit leaked vital trans fluid used for lubricating and cooling the EV drive systems. There are some that speculate that the roughly 10 cents of saving on using less RTV sealant was an effort to build in a service mileage timer, but I do not believe it because seal failure had/has too many variables besides just mileage. In any event, The failure was handled with a soft-recall and a subsequent assembly adjustments that resolved the issue for future hybrid autos. That is why part transplants from younger hybrids are preferred to rebuilt units. My wife's 2014 MKZ hybrid get over 42 MPG on the highway and around 32 MPG in the city. This is comparable to our much beloved 2003 VW Golf Diesel 5-speed that gets around 44 MPG. (love from Chicago)

Bro how to change hose pipe of turbo? Actully I opened it but can't find location from upside
@GallowayChicago
@GallowayChicago 2 ай бұрын
The Turbo vacuum actuator goes through a 12v vacuum relay on VW TDIs. The relay is usually connected right to the firewall. -BUT- You should be aware that there are several points of failure on these turbo systems. . . from: (a)diesel intake soot clogging up the turbo pathways, (b)the vacuum actuator rusting to the point where it will not hold a vacuum, (c) the oil line not supplying oil used to both lubricate and cool the turbo, (d) the electrical failure of the 12v vacuum relay, (e) failure of the primary vacuum uptake hard black hose by the brake booster, (f) the intercooler filling with fluid (combustion byproducts) and causing turbo under-performance, and lastly (g) the failure of the rubber vacuum hoses themselves. No. Not because it didn't work but because it is more expensive then the more dependable OEM replacement Duel-Mass Flywheels. These critters hate odd smells like perfumes and they hate getting their "hand" dirty, greasy, and sticky. Some people try using loud radios and others have used heaters to drive them out. I personally used a petroleum jelly on the gutters but over time that just looks dirty and getting it off is a mess. I have used the same petroleum jelly technik for kids jumping my fences and it works.

Do you know if there is a weight saving over a standard DMF, fitting a standard SMF?
@GallowayChicago
@GallowayChicago 2 ай бұрын
I was wondering the same thing. I though a lighter flywheel should be easier to start and stop and should result in more MPG or faster speeds. ANSWER: NO... I bought a ultr-lite 10 lb SMF flywheel and none of the above was true. A weighted flywheel starts the diesel better. A weighted flywheel balances better for higher RPMs. A weighted flywheel does not make odd noises. A weighted flywheel in general "feels" better. Needless to say, I remove the ultra-lite SMF flywheel and can only see it useful in a mid-speed (40s-50s) long-distance track usage. (TDI Love from Chicago)

I would not recommend these Polyurethane bushings because they are too hard and without an outer sleeve they deform easily. They are better then rubber for longevity but at a cost of feeling very crack and bump in the road.

Thanks! I acquired 3 trunks of a different brand but the locks work in a very similar way as the one in your video. I managed to get them open after some struggle. I intend to keep using the trunks to store blankets and stuff and I don't want to have to go through the screw driver process every time that I need to open them. Is there some way that I can just disable the locks with out having to destroy them or break them off of the trunk? I can feel springs inside that hold the locking tabs out. I wonder if you could jam something down inside of those little access holes above each locking tab in order to keep the locking tabs from extending out? There must be a lot of people that would like to just bypass the lock mechanism to make their trunks more usable.
@GallowayChicago
@GallowayChicago 6 ай бұрын
There is, To my knowledge, no way to stop the two latches without disassembling the back plate and removing the springs. The springs are just bent pieces of metal and the typical spiral mental springs that come to mind. You could also hold them in with toothpicks and "Crazy Glue" them while holding them in for 30 mins, but this would have the possibility of being very very messy. I also guess you could take a chisel or Dremel and cut a notches in the inner ring so that the two locking ears have nothing to lock into. That might be reversible (If needed). Love from Chicago and Let us know how it goes.
