Don Nelson doesn’t get enough credit. He was behind drafting Dirk for the Mavs and Steph for the Warriors. It’s a shame he and Webber couldn’t compromise or come to an agreement on his position. It’s weird to trade all those picks (and Hardaway), when you take a guy and force him to play a position he wasn’t comfortable with. Golden State paid severely for this. Not only did they lose Webber to a trade after just one season, they blew up the entire roster, and still lost Nelson as a coach. It took another decade+ before they were relevant again (Ironically Nelson coming back)… and to add to the craziness, Webber ended his career (with Nelson) at Golden State. Frustrating they couldn’t make it work. They won 50 games with Webber in ‘93 - a 16 game win improvement from the previous season. Warriors were loaded. And then dismantled.

30+ years later and the NBA still hasn’t figured out how to properly do the hat on the player that is going or has been traded. Sometimes - I understand it’s still in the works… like this trade. But when a trade has been made, they shouldn’t have that player wearing the hat of the team that traded him. It happens 10+ times every year and it’s awkward.

I would be so mad if i got drafted and traded on draft night. Rather just play the whole way through rather then a year hear dealing with new coaches new teams.

And the Sixers selected Shawn Bradley #2. They could have easily done the same thing as Golden State and ended up with Webber instead.

Penny apparently had the greatest pre draft workout of all time. After seeing that, Orlando just had to draft him. Although two mobile bigs in Cwebb and Shaq couldve been an epic pairing, never seen before, that would dominate for years to come Penny was crushed by injuries but you always wanna draft a guard + big combo instead of 2 bigs. So that was it. Plus his pre draft Magic.* *Kobe in 1996 really crushed his pre workouts **Darko in 2004 may have been among these 2, when Joe Dumars was watching his workout he couldnt believe what he was seeing. Such a skilled big rarely came to the league.... unfortunately he was a fool and his basic skills were in a 18-year old spoiled brat not ready for the real world. Cant blame him though, that is tough for any player to go through

Wish Shaq had stayed in Orlando, but he did what was best for him. The league was at it's height during this era to me. Not shunning the Magic-Bird era though.

Hmmm, you might be right. The draft classes in the 90’s were the best. The infusion of talent during that decade catapulted the NBA as the premier professional sports league in the world.

One the best too bad the NBA wouldn't let him smoke herb. They shouldn't of tested him or any of the players that smoked herb. There was some good stuff in the 90's. Still is but mid 90's herb was kinda a turning point for herb. Jr. Rider and all the others deserved some good smoke
