The men in the movie couldn't understand McKay because he wouldn't play by their set of rules. Let's put him on Ol Thunder so we can laugh and jeer at him. McKay: "No, thanks. " McKay wasn't lost because he could read a compass and navigate with the stars. " You're a liar, " says Leech. And so it goes...

One of my all time favorite music pieces from Jerome Moross with 3 variations in The Big Country....he would use similar music in the Jawhawkers with Jeff Chandler and Fess Parker but this pieces is the buildup to the Terrels v Hanassays!!

I put this on KZfaq a million years ago and I mucho appreciate all the positive comments you guys have added to it. They just don't make westerns like this anymore - no, it's all shoot 'em ups today, instead of story. And music today - yuk! It's like you can't wait to get out of the grocery store, right? But I enjoy getting e-mails from people with 3 digit IQs, so if ya wanta send me one, have at it. And by the way, the year is 2022 right now, so if it's like 2036 when you reply, I'll be long gone. Yours truly, [email protected]

Jerome Moross, in my opinion, is not given enough attention for his musical scoring like Dmitri Tiomkin, Elmer Bernstein, Alfred and Lionel Newman, to name four composers. But, for sheer listening and admiration, this will go down as Moross' finest hour, scoring The Big Country. Some of that ability was also used for some television westerns, as well. What a contributor to the genre of cinema soundtracking.

Jerome Moross got robbed at the Awards Ceremony Because he was a brilliant composer and the Music Score for Big Country deserved an Academy Award, PERIOD!!!!!

The score to this movie just drips Wild West, or “big country” if you will. The chord changes are so powerful and majestic. Got to be the best western score ever done, and it predates magnificent seven by a few years. Just excellent music.

Good Morning. Howdy. I'm a middle aged, middle Englander and I NEVER tire of the Big Country. It is outstanding on so many levels. Gregory Peck as yet another civilised hero resisting violence, the landscape, Jean Simmons so fesity & beautiful (the thinking she takes to sell Big Muddy is a great bit of acting), the finest of film soundtracks (and not just the opening theme) , the fabulous twilight fight with Chuck H and Burl Ives brilliant bulk & voice. I bloody love it.

In the film I remember that the Mother lost her shit when she realized what had happened. Wonder if that's how it really went down. Anyway, that was back in eighty seven and, this footage still gives me goosebumps, good goosebumps, in twenty thirteen. Way to go Juicey you are indeed truely, a warrior! (: I love you, the world still loves you girl! You are AMAZING! Thank you for the video.

"Following her rescue on October 16, 1987, surgeons had to amputate a toe due to gangrene from loss of circulation while in the well. She also has a scar on her forehead where her head rubbed against the well casing. She has had 15 surgeries over the years, and has no first-hand memory of the event." Yea, she didn't need a hospital. Derp.

Oh, yes - Chamberlain WAS a fascinating guy; and far beyond his Civil War exploits, too. Don't think much of Lee - think he's way over bloated with praise - but Chamberlain was a down to earth good guy. Anyone disagree? Stan at "[email protected]"
@stflaw5 жыл бұрын
I don't know how "down-to-earth" Chamberlain was. In fact, contemporary descriptions paint a portrait of a man who was rather aloof and imperious, particularly in his post-Civil War life. What is beyond question, however, is that he was the epitome of the citizen-soldier, and an inspiring example of how everyday Americans can rise to the occasion and do their duty when the nation is threatened. I put both Chamberlain and Richard Winters of the 101st Airborne in this category.

I imagine much of the U.S. was glued to their television during this ordeal, but for those of us in Texas, it was like nothing else existed for those couple of days. I was about 10 years old at the time and every now again, some 20 odd years later, the name "Baby Jessica" still pops into my head from time to time.

Did you know that she had gangrene and had to get one of her toes surgically removed? She also had other surgeries due to her injuries. You just don't give them a bath, food and that's it. She wouldn't be alive today if things were done your way.
@GhostChick11612 жыл бұрын
58 hours trapped in a well, in a split position, unable to move, unknown (possibly SEVERE) injuries (which did include gangrene, which is DEADLY, and resulted in the loss of a toe), no food/water, not to mention heaven knows how bad a diaper rash forming, and you're CRITICIZING them for taking precautions as soon as they have her out, then rushing her in for immediate medical treatment?? Wow. Just wow. Shame on you. Shame. Imagine if it were YOUR child. I bet you'd be singing a different tune.
