these six big desert elephants probably represent more than 200yrs of collective experience living in this harsh environment. pls protect them for our children's children.

YES...fully agree....at ALL cost!!! Will be posting something facinating (hopefully next week) that I noticed this weekend...the whole herd took an escape route through a narrow gorge to avoid Namibian holiday season traffic.
@embreis22573 күн бұрын
@@DesertMatriarch2911 I'm curious. does it mean these elephants consider tourists a nuisance to be avoided? rather than a factor whose presence helps in shielding their group from potential predators or even as a source for food or water, maybe some delicious treats like fruits? 🤔

@embreis225718 күн бұрын
tyvm for this video containing many educational infos. however, we didn't learn anything about the causes for all these calf deaths. most had very experienced mothers considering their age making it unlikely the mothers made a fatal mistake. you mentioned scarcity of food and water. is that due to climate change as this part of the world has been very arid for a long time. or do humans prevent wild animals from getting to water sources they had access to in earlier decades?
@DesertMatriarch29119 күн бұрын
embreiss...thank you for your comment Currently nobody really knows. It could be a couple of factors...The drought is certainly contibuting but my theory is, a lack of diversity of available plantmaterial for the elephants which result in a deminished gut microbiome and that causes a nutritional deficiancy > affect fetus >calve mortallity. This theory can be tested by comparing the microbiome in the dung of cows that succesfully birth and raised calves with cows of same age and area that did not...but it is not done yet.
@embreis22579 күн бұрын
@@DesertMatriarch2911 if your are right about this then plant diversity must have significantly decreased over the years. that might be a parameter much easier verified than comparing microbiome in the dung. you probably already have some missing plants in mind, right?

Elephants must have three feet on the ground at all times due to their size. He couldn’t free himself unless he sat down.
@user-sp3wd2nn3e3 күн бұрын
Hm interesting idea. I agree it would be awkward, but if one foot was stepping down on the tyre, that would still mean three feet were supporting the elephant.

I know this lady, and it seems like there might be some confusion about this case. She's not part of the officials who handle these cases, there are rules and regulations about this, members of the public are not allowed to interfere. She came across the elephant and reported it to the relevant authorities immediately. So she did what she could at the time and is trying to raise awareness for these precious beings through this channel.
@Peace2yaaАй бұрын
What in the world?? How is SHE responsible or too blame for his death? You can plainly hear the love and respect in her voice as she speaks about him. SHE did all she could do for him. Place your blame on someone else IMO. Not this kind soul!

I have NO first hand info with regards to the operation of the removal of the tyre so I cannot criticise anyone and the bullet was DEFINATELY an OLD issue.I have seen him a couple of weeks before and there was no sign of a wound. The issue for me is people dumping tyres and rubbish and other behaviour that compromise the wellbeing of the elephants. That should never happen. My intention firstly is to bring awareness to human behaviour that compromises nature and secondly the super intelligence and beauty and magnificence of elephants. Especially the Desert Adaptive elephants that have to survive under very difficult circumstances. They should be protected at all cost...only a couple of hundred left!!! I thank everyone for their oppinion

8:55 wait, what? a young bull of 18yrs didn't wake up from his sedation? do you mean the bullet found in his body caused an inflammation the vet didn't consider in his estimation for the drug, making the sedative too powerful for the weakened body? 🤔
