You have to let the string burn long enough to get the glass hot. The glass being hot then plunged into cold water is what causes the extreme temperature fluctuation which causes the glass to break. Letting the string burn for literally 4.5 seconds does nothing.

I use paint thinner/ mineral spirits to clean my gun's because it's an oil, to clean a surface for gluing I'd use 91% alcohol from the dollar store it's 10 times cheaper than paint thinner/ mineral spirits*** For a Spud Gun you use high pressure tubing. Be careful what you use as propellant I guess hair spray work's and WD-40 i heard deodorants work too like AXE,.....unsure about starting fluid, break cleaner and parts cleaner,....don't use propane or acetylene. Ask at the store Home Depot how to seal the pipe they will sell you 2 things a 2 part glueing system. Epoxies can be brittle like glass,.... you want high impact epoxy. Watch out for problem neighbors,
