Why is there a hydrofoil and trim tabs? One or the other! They are basically fighting each other and will cause performance issues.
@DieselMountain6 күн бұрын
@@kyletaylor7485 I know my top end is lower, you think it’s the hydrofoil?
@kyletaylor74852 күн бұрын
@@DieselMountain While trim tabs usually provide better stability, their affect of top end speed is neglagable. Hydrofoils on the other hand absolutely affect top end speed. I put a hydrofoil on my first boat and went from a top speed of 40mph down to almost 30mph. while I was able to plain out at lower speeds and have better control I lost a lot of my top end performance. I installed trim tabs on my current boat and it improved my control and performance at slower speeds but did not take away any of my top end speed. Both basically do the same thing but in different ways, the hydrofoil acts like a wing in the water to add stability while trim tabs apply downward force to stabilize the boat. If you have both on your boat they are basically working against each other trying to do the same thing.

@@kyletaylor7485 I will probably take off the hydrofoil this winter, when it comes off the lake.

Gen one drives were made until the early 90s. Gen two are same concept just different design. One noticeable feature is where the rams mount on the drive off the bell housing. Gen one is further back versus gen 2 further forward. Check your drive serial number from the crashed drive should be stamped on the upper of the drive. Look that up for your correct gear ratio for the motor. I believe it’s 151 to 1 for a 350 and 305
@DieselMountain6 күн бұрын
@@danielfreeman7894 This was a Gen2 off a 5.0 engine. I know my top speed is lower now. Other than that runs good.
@DieselMountain6 күн бұрын
@@danielfreeman7894 Is the gear ratio the same for 5.0 and a 5.7? The boat is a 5.7 and we put a 5.0 outdrive on it. I know my top end speed is lower.

Pretty daring checking the air filters after the motor starts and not pulling the valve cover to determine if the rack is stuck or not. Daring and lucky so far. You'd have known quickly if rodents had nested or died in the air cleaners and a runaway engine with stuck open injectors would have been immediately apparent. Vintage interior for sure! Hope you know how to double clutch. It's 4 on the column isn't it?
