This is a very helpful video done at a pace that I found to be relaxing. A note I offer is that the part declared as being "dead" actually isn't. That part is referred to as the "mother". Rather than discarding it, honor her value by replanting with her "daughters" or in a R & R bed. That part will make new offshoots. While it may be slow, she will give forth many new plants.

I want to divide my huge clump of irises and store them individually over the winter. Come spring I want to plant them up into individual pots and give to friends. How would I store them over the winter

Put them in a box with a dry media separating them, like pine shaving/bedding (available at a feed store), keep them in the dark and keep them dry. Plant in spring!

Thank you for this helpful video. My situation is that my neighbor's watering system overwatered my Leucospermum High Gold to the point that it got mealy bugs and the flowers literally popped off. I've removed the plant (still in its large container trying not to disturb the roots) and eradicated the insect problem. There are new buds at each "pop off" location. Should I let them grow or do I still need to prune (way early -its June in so Cal) so that the cut is no longer flat?. I have over 2+" of green below, but I'm afraid to lose these remaining buds! What's the best plan here?
@PattySmith-op1tn
@PattySmith-op1tn 22 күн бұрын
So you didn't dig it up, but just moved the container? I think you're fine leaving it as is. We had a late frost one year, all the buds did the "pop off", and then that lovely plant pumped out TWO buds at every pop-off!

I wish I could find a stock tank with higher sides. I’ve tried one 2 foot tall. And my son make sure he mows the weeds toward it so it’ll fill up with seed weeds. We only have a cistern so we have no running water to water the plants so I take 5 gallon buckets and drain my aquariums in the house and bring out the water to use as fertilizer and watering.

Does it matter what region you are in when storing your rhizomes outside?
@PattySmith-op1tn
@PattySmith-op1tn 22 күн бұрын
Um, maybe? I don't live where it snows so my rhizomes over-winter in the ground. When I have dug-up rhizomes, I keep them inside a building so they stay dry and don't get exposed to light. I'd be reluctant to leave unplanted rhizomes out of doors.

Can the suckers coming out of the ground be dug up and replanted to make another tree?
@PattySmith-op1tn
@PattySmith-op1tn 22 күн бұрын
No! The sucker is not the type of tree you are harvesting fruit from--the sucker is from the root stock. She our video, "Plant Easy-to-Harvest Fruit Trees" for more information about grafts.

You can always try other times... plants is plants and they often don't do what we expect! I think if yours have flowered, and the straps are starting to wilt, you can likely get away with dividing.

I had no idea how awfully unmaintained by Iris beds were until watching this video. But now I have a lot of work to do. I think the best thing to do is carefully dig them all up, one bed at a time, remove the dirt but saving it, clean up and remove all unproductive "parts", fan the leaves, and plant them back but nowhere as thick. It is late May here in NW Georgia and I don't want to wait until September. What would you advise?
@PattySmith-op1tn
@PattySmith-op1tn 22 күн бұрын
It sounds like you have a good plan. If they have already flowered, you can do it now. Me, I choose to do it when it's not hot! Iris are pretty darn hard. Also, if you're in doubt, just dig up half and leave the rest in place... either way you're going to improve the situation AND have more plants!

I bought two Carnival Yellow leucospermum plants from Home Depot. I have decided to leave them in their plastic pots under the shade because we're in the 90's temps. We have natural clay soil, so I'm aware we can amend the soil. What do you recommend? Should I go ahead and plant them in the ground? Would they survive in our Las Vegas heat temps, which can get up to 110-117 degrees for several months? If so, what is the best type of soil to amend with? I read that leucospermums thrive in acidic soil, any tips for that as well. Thank you in advance for your advice.
@ThomasHuayra
@ThomasHuayra 28 күн бұрын
Clay is not very good for leucospermums, it needs very well draining soil. I planted mine in a flower pot with river sand mixed in with perlite, pine mulch and succulent potting soil.
@PattySmith-op1tn
@PattySmith-op1tn 22 күн бұрын
Mine are doing fine in nearly 100% clay, but we don't have nearly the heat you do. I'd be afraid of leaving them in the store pots, though, unless you are super vigilant about watering them daily. The roots can cook so easily in a nursery pot. My soil has no amendments. And remember, these guys hate fertilizer.

Man I can't win. My peach trees where perfect, green leaves and little peaches. People say you should spray to prevent diseases. So I sprayed 2 days ago and now today every leaf looks diseased. It was like the opposite. I used Captan and mixed Malathion in a gallon. What am I doing wrong? Should I wait to spray until I see spots? It's like my spray gave it spots.

I've had bearded irises for about seven years, and they bloom every year. I'm not sure where you're getting the information about not blooming if you don't thin them, but maybe in another seven years I'll learn? I'm just now getting into gardening. The irises were there when I got there, but I didn't know what they were so I just left them alone. I will be propagating them with the help of your video. So, I thank you. Peace.

I have had hole shot and peach leaf curl affect my tree Georgia Belle at different times. They seem to require two different kinds of fungicides to prevent, but are applied on the same schedule. Can I mxi the two fungicides (Chlorothalonil and copper fungicide) together in the same sprayer for one application?

QUESTION FOR ANYONE. My Newhaven Peach Tree here in Chicago produced great peaches the last 3 years. It had flowers two weeks ago then we dropped to 22-23 for a few nights. No signs of buds, or peaches. But I see leaf curl starting. Since I'm not getting peaches can I use Copper Fungicide now to prevent the spread? I'm assuming the instructions say February or Fall only because the don't want us to lose a harvest but I already see no harvest this season. Thank You
