Although I ❤ the theme, I feel this might be a little too heavy for me… At least there is Philharmonix, with a similar type of theme - which would be easier to get played!

Wow this game looks beautiful and such a great idea for a theme! Big fan of Distilled as well. I realllly need to get ahold of this one.

Paverson Games were really good about diversity in Distilled. Like, the best out there really. However, I think that since they are going all out on historical accuracy here (including bios) and that it's based in Europe, diversity in this case is more about showcasing women and children who were working with their families unlike what we were brought up to believe (that women did nothing or weren't involved). I'm so glad it's not just another game with a bunch of dudes! Or the diversity will probably also come from different historical families from different religious backgrounds and countries which we don't usually associate with that era. But yes, if there were any POC back in Europe that were making instruments, those absolutely need to be included.

I think this is a fair assessment. Distilled (in addition to being a solid game) did a great job with being diverse. I echo your point that in bringing on the musicologist to make sure everything is historically accurate, and by the nature of the setting of the final version of the game, Paverson Games is striking the best balance possible to honor the theme and be as diverse as possible.

This looks absolutely stunning, and the theme is about as appealing as it gets for me. I worry about the blind bidding though. It’s not a mechanic that I’ve ever particularly enjoyed.

Didn’t they have this type of video for Arcs when it was on crowdfunding? Update: Just looked - Yes, they did a similarly formatted video for Arcs, so you can go check that out! This game hasn’t even been on crowdfunding yet - so I feel that is when they do these type of videos.

@@JJ_TheGreat they did do a similar video for Arcs but that was a fairly early prototype. The final version has shipped out and I'd imagine they were sent a full review copy given their prior video but we'll see!

Played this at Bordercon just last week in Albury-Wodonga after being blown away by Glory to Rome the year before, my partner and I LOVED this (also Aegean Sea, which is equally chaotic but a little harder to get your head around). We also played Red 7 by the same designer, which was really neat and surprising also. Do you fine folks attend cons in Australia? There is a cool LGBTQIA+ con in Albury-Wodonga called HuMM BuGG Con that we are travelling from Adelaide to hit up next year, They had the most amazing pride pins that we purchased because they were exceptional.

I dream of making a video for this game myself. You did a little of what I want to do, in that you framed the story a bit at the start. I am not a good salesman and couldn't sell the experience to my friend to play, so I would like (to make) a video that expresses the game's theme and goals a bit more concretely. Because if you haven't played the videogame, the elements of the game might not stand out. And if you HAVE played the videogame, you might not appreciate that we're under a time pressure against Joja! As you point out, the game is time pressured and your extended campaign fixes that to put it more in line with the videogame feel. The rules as they're given is more in line with speedrunners of the videogame, or more specifically, challenge runners who try to complete the community centre in year one. So to make the story make sense for the board game I'd add that Joja is set to turn the community centre into a warehouse at the end of one year if it isn't fully restored! I appreciate your take on an extended campaign. I've read various attempts and thought about my own. I too like to play the Stardew Valley music while playing, to match each season.

@@ex1stgames It has to be, it's the only way to keep growing. Many of us often forget that we progressed through simpler games to get to the complex strategy games we enjoy now and have a foundation of knowledge that makes a game easier for us to pick up. Then we plop one of those games in front of new players and scare them away.

I would have fun with all of these! Fairy would do great on family gatherings and birthdays for me. I could get into Confusing Lands solo, I enjoy games like Grove and Sprawlopolis and this feels similar. But just like Maggie I'm not very good at them because I like to see how far I can push my luck drawing the right cards with this kind of game lol. Thanks for doing a video on smaller games! They usually get lower ranking on things like bgg cause they're not that deep, but they can still be a ton of fun.

As a lover of Zendo (which was an inspiration for this game according to the designer on BGG), this looks right up my street. EDIT: I suppose one solution to the limited number of rule cards is to just come up with your own three rules, making sure they fit the three types. Also gives the Knower a bit more to do in the game, as they get to pick their own rules. Zendo does something like that, where it has a deck of cards to decide rules for you, but it also says you can come up with your own.

I am a tiny bit sad but not at all surprised that Time Chase isn't on here. It is not as good as Cat in the Box. But it's a fun brain bender as you use time crystals to decide if you want to travel back in time to previous tricks at the end of each round to change who won. Or even change what trump is by going back before the start of the game
