Very nice shawl, and i were a bit surprised about its made in two parts, practical I guess due to the width of the loom. And the blouse you are wearing when putting up the loom is a exact fabric as I sewed for myself, though in a short sleeve shirt. 😊. Greetings from Kenneth in Norway.

I haven't been able to find this book in English unfortunately, which is a shame since my husband is really into iron age garments. So I've been trying to figure it out for myself and this video has been so helpful! What weight of yarn did you use? And how many strands did you warp on? Thanks for sharing

Bobbin lace is a traditional form of weaving in my birth country, Spain. I got myself a roll type pillow and bobbins years ago, in the hope to learn one of these days.

When do you know when to remove the pins?.... after a particular design is finished?
@withmyhandsdream13 күн бұрын
After about 2 cm there are enough twist that the threads don’t move anymore. It depends. Some gimp threads used in lace escape more easily as they aren’t tied down as strongly.

I saw a movie about Queen Victoria. In the movie she gives a maid lace collar. The made could get a lot of money for it. It was a big thing if you could afford lace collar.

Hello Katja. I am a bobbin lace maker and I want to encourage you to keep learning. I want to ask you something, where can I buy a pillow like yours? I love it ❤❤
@withmyhandsdream21 күн бұрын
I bought mine at a local thrift store. These kinds of pillows seem to be quite common in both brick and mortar and online thrift stores. I don’t know where you are from so I don’t know whether those are as common there. There are also FB groups dedicated in bobbin lace and you could find some sellers there. Of course, you could also try navigating Finnish tori.fi and search ”nypläystyyny” but then you have to find someone to send you the pillow abroad and that might be difficult and expensive.

I love to hear the Finnish perspective on mourning history! Do you happen to know anything about French mourning customs, and did they wear English crape (not crepe)? I collect antique dolls. They have lost many mothers during their 150+ year lifetimes. So, of course, I’m sewing them some mourning costumes from antique crape. And we’re having a mourning party in the future.

I've been trying to find out what kind of paper stock the cardboard is being used for under the paper pattern? Also What kind of markers you use then.
@withmyhandsdreamАй бұрын
There is cardboard from the lacemaker’s shop in Finland but any cardboard will do. The official just may last more re-uses. I’ve used cardboard from Cheerios cerial box and it works! The cerial box cardboard is also easier to prick which is a big plus for me and my poor fingers. Just your regular highlighters will do for the coloring.

What is the embroidery stitch to make the pretty maroon flower?
@withmyhandsdreamАй бұрын
It’s a chain stitch basically that is tied off immediately. It’s also called ”lazy daisy” in English and you can google it for a tutorial!

Ahahahahaahahahahahahahh. The Rally English and the slightly psychotic look in the eyes. So very Finnish. Also, it is not a fabric. It is a cover or a wall tapestry.
