So using the 3d satin feature is not good on Hatch?
@fiercekittenz23 сағат бұрын
In Hatch 3 it's called "raised satin." It's just applying several layers of satin stitching on top of the other and doesn't really involve foam.

Spiffy, thank you! Hopefully this doesn't get you pestered by that lady out of California who's been sending folks C&Ds for patent infringement re: puffy and/or embossed embroidery tutorials. I've seen a few videos about it this past month from other creators in the embroidery space, and one lady even gives the patent number in her video.
@fiercekittenz23 сағат бұрын
Oh, I'm KEENLY aware of her shenanigans. I have not been served and I won't be for this particular video. Her patent specifically covers the embossed look. She's a sneaky one. She only goes after smaller creators. You'll notice she hasn't touched Ricoma or Brother for their tutorials. There's a reason for that. I'm consulting with a patent lawyer and preparing a Seamrippin' video specifically on this topic.

First of all, this is an amazingly clear tutorial for a welt zipper pocket, which is amazing, because even knowing all the steps myself for a regular welt pocket, I get dizzy just trying to remember them. What I did notice though, is that your welt zipper pocket - apart from having a zipper - differs from a regular welt pocket on one thing. Around 8 minutes in you start cutting open your welt pocket, and turn everything around, and iron everything neat so everything stays in place. So far so good. But what you did not do is pay any attention to those little triangles - I was taught fold them back, iron them, and sew a reinforced stitch over them while keeping the outside fabric out of the way, in order to reinforce the pocket for the weight it might carry while not showing anything on the outside. Do you intentionally ignore that because you sew right over when you sew the zipper in, and the zipper might carry some of the weight, or is there another reason? Thanks again for this amazingly clear tutorial, I'll be definitely be keeping it in my saved videos list to rewatch when I'll be making a welt zipper pocket sometime soon.

It's a strong double-sided tape that is mostly used for leatherwork. It won't wash out, so don't use it for garments, but it's GREAT for holding down vinyl and tough pieces you can't exactly chuck a pin through.

how much height was reduced by boxing the bottom? should that be added before cutting the fabric?
@fiercekittenz5 күн бұрын
Very good question! Yes, you'll reduce your height by the amount of the box's size, so you'll want to account for that in the final pattern. This was one of my older videos. I've learned to cover more bases since. I should do a follow-up video to this one that explains it better.

Great tips! Curious to know why make the seam allowances 1/2 " and later trimm it to 1/4"? Wouldn't be simpler to see 1/4" from the start? 😮
@fiercekittenz7 күн бұрын
Typically this is something for bag patterns that have a lot of structure in them, specifically fleece or foam. The thicker and floofier the interfacing used to stabilize the fabric, the more likely it is that you'll "squish" the exterior and lining fabrics such that they bend a bit around the presser foot and may not get caught in the seam allowance. The 1/2" is a good buffer, but oftentimes way too big. I've since started using 3/8" in my more recent patterns.

hello there! very nice video--you make me want to go out an buy some waxed canvas to play with...but i have such a huge stash of all kinds of stuff right now that i just GOTTA use a few pieces before i go out and get more!!! love your channel...i have a couple of questions for you. i am REALLY interested in making structured handbags out of faux leather--what is best to use for stiffener for the sides/bottom of the bag? is Peltex a viable option? in several other videos i have watched, something referred to as 'chipboard' or 'purseboard' has been mentioned; do you know what that is and where i could source it? can it be sewn through? i have a juki tl2010q machine and of course even though i'm a newbie (to pursemaking not sewing) i want to jump in and start with the 'hard stuff'--it's just my nature! any recommendations would be appreciated. thank you!
@fiercekittenz8 күн бұрын
It really depends on the size of the bag and its shape. Sometimes Peltex is enough and then other times you need the board substitute. I’ve never made a bag large enough that needed that at the bottom.

So glad I found you, your tutorials are so easy to follow! Have a multi needle embroidery machine that is still waiting to land on its stand💪Doing research in the meantime to figure out what would be the best software to use. In your opinion and Ignoring pricing, what are the pros and cons between Embrilliance and Hatch. Your tutorials make Hatch seem “simple” to use in that one could learn to use the program fairly quickly. My future goal is to learn to digitize, mostly for our staff T’s and hats, but baby steps first. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks!

They are usually “hidden” or invite-only groups. This conversation is surfacing again so it’s important to remind people to speak with an IP lawyer to get real answers if anything seems cloudy. Oh, and I’m not innocent at all. I’ve used unlicensed materials before. I won’t list it on my shop or sell at a market. Usually it’s for friends or family.
